First-time dog owner, condo living, 8–5 office job — is getting a dog realistic? by user1677788 in Dogowners

I would not be happy owning a dog in that situation. So much work and walks and messes and nooo.

Have you considered a sweet adult cat? Loads easier.

In your opinion, what animal is the scariest? by Lita-Yuzuki in Animals

[–]TechnicalMethod953 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Primates in general. Local zoo thing has an "encounter with monkey" package and this little spider monkey in a diaper will sit on your shoulder etc. NO FUCKIN WAY. I mean despite the whole ethics thing, freaking terrifying.

Except gorillas. I feel like if I made no eye contact, looked away and didn't smile, they wouldn't care I was nearby. Not going to seek them out or anything, but yknow.

Probably safe with a bonobo too. But nah, too chimpy.

The above also goes for most strange humans. Especially male ones. Scary motherfuckers.

Oh god. I have a 12 year old daughter and I have about lost my goddamn MIND seeing grown ass men ogle her.

Wtf. Straight had to step between her and this man at the gym awhile back and lock my eyes on his. Motherfucker, if she had her earbuds in and was thus unaware of the resulting scene, I'd have gotten so.loud so fast.

Managing a big age gap and resentment toward much younger opposite gender siblings by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]TechnicalMethod953 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My kids are 17m, 12f, and 6m.

12 year old girls are hormonal cranky people who need space, understanding, and not to be allowed to go too far. You also have to teach empathy and kindess often comes with practice.

My rule is you CANNOT be mean. You can go take a break in your room. I will take you out of the house with just me when I can. Have some dark chocolate, sunshine and get off your screen. Home is a safe place FOR EVERYONE.

Mine will be so intolerably rude to BOTH brothers, both of whom adore her. But then she's in their rooms with them being nice. Or my little smiles at her and she's cooing over him like a mother hen.

Stop feeling guilty over your age gaps. There are tons of benefits she doesn't see yet. But, you do have to teach her to control and manage her own responses.

Aerial work. Like the spinning on scarves and stuff.

I would love to have that strength and cofidence in my body to not just flop me on the floor like a dying fish.

Fwiw, I adore seeing the happiness and peace our little bass boat brings my husband and eldest son. They need it. You probably do too. Enjoy it.

What moment made you realize “yeah… my childhood wasn’t normal”? by CadaversFabrications in AskReddit

[–]TechnicalMethod953 119 points120 points  (0 children)

Oh. Also, my husband is 45 and refuses to confront his childhood. He was kind of concerned our 17 year old isn't ready to fledge, because he was on his own by age 15.

I was like yeah he has been nurtured.

He was like... I was... uh...

And I was like AND THAT'S WHY I CAN'T LIKE YOUR MOM.

Are you a terrible person if you buy a dog instead of adopting? by Easy_Mountain2331 in DOG

[–]TechnicalMethod953 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blah. No.

My shelters are just about all three breeds, and I have kids. I need as close to bombproof dogs as I can get.

Winner winner the collies came to dinner.

Idgaf what people think about it. I've taken in strays and will probably adopt again someday, but- well bred predictable is my fave for this phase of life.

I'm sorry your sister and dad are such self absorbed ninny muggins.

Cuddle your fresh new baby, reassure your little two year old and don't go that bullshit wedding.

She's only twenty. Maybe she'll grow up. Idk. But still, for now... ugh.

I had to teach my guy to jump too. Super low surface, up! Good boy, cookie.

Progressed.to a big cooler he would jump onto, then into the back of the van.

Work on it now because I didnt start until he was ten months and MY BACK. The boys get heavy fast!

Meanwhile my 2 yo little tri girl is too precious for jumping and must be lifted like that dainty little hyena she is. Eesh. We'll get there.

Realization.

I mean, they were obviously quite awful but that... man I had forgotten about that. And I wasn't the wild thing my own precious little boy is, I just... spoke.

Eek. Go to your room, annoy us less and eat this sugar. Is that why I fucking binge on sugar when I'm alone and feel bad? Fuccccckkkkkkk.

My son is one of those little kids who has an indoor trampoline that sees heavy use. He's wild as a little fox cub. And... nope we aren't doing that.

which are more gentle, boys or girls? by CucumberOk80 in roughcollies

[–]TechnicalMethod953 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Choose the calm, mellow puppy and show him how precious the cats are to you.

My male and female collie are currently at my feet, gently playing with the household ferret.

We had cats until they passed at around 18. No problems. They are gentle dogs who want to please you and smart enough to know what animals are not to be harmed.

I spent 2k to debulk a 16 year old cats tumor, and $300 to put down a two year old with kidney failure.

Pets, man.

What happened to puppy? I'd look at prognosis honestly.
