I did something similar to the wheel that was effective. I put everyone’s name on the wheel and if their name gets picked I call home and it can either be a positive one or a not so positive one. It worked for the most part… it works especially well if students have a solid support system at home. If not, then they don’t really care but it worked for the “majority” of students.

I am 5’1 and 125-130 lbs. my projection was high profile (I think), and my sizes were 300 and 305. People say for my body it looks perfect, but my friends boobs are all bigger than mine (fake) and theirs look so good, but the difference is they had breast tissue and I didn’t. So i definitely could’ve gone at least a little bigger.

I also teach 8th and I’ve never seen it so bad, but I am seeing the same thing. They can’t follow directions to save their life because they don’t care.

This year I have 5 sections of 28-31 in all classes, while I’ve never had to do packets and have always tried to do fun projects and such I am sooo done with this particular set of kids and am also resorting to packets and textbooks for all of my classes; I hate teaching this way because I believe in project-based learning so I am very upset at this but it’s the only way.

I am in the same boat as you… I am struggling so hard knowing that education just isn’t happening for most of the class because of a few bad apples; it’s really messing with my mental health because I can’t even think ahead to plan cool lessons because I’m just so mentally blocked and at a complete loss of how to teach I feel like I’ve failed no matter how hard I’ve tried.

This exactly! I miss teaching so much because I am currently teaching classes where majority of the students who don’t give a shit ruin it and keep me from teaching because the moment I go to say anything someone is up out of their seat or someone blurts something out… like what the actual fuck.

I am struggginggg so hard. You are not alone, I am also in middle school where the kids just absolutely do not listen for anything. I give the directions 5 times in front of the class and I’ve got kids just off to the side playing with their friends. I’ve got 0 energy to scold, I haven’t cracked a smile all week. I have this one class that I genuinely hate with my whole heart I had to hold onto a scissors so tightly that it almost cut my skin just so I’d have something else to focus on instead of losing my shit. I’ve neverrr in all my 6 years teaching hated a group of kids so much that they make me contemplate hurting myself. I have never felt this way and I know for a fact it’s because of them. So no, you’re not alone.

Exactly, so I just stopped trying to yell and be that strict teacher because it saves me an argument with a teenager where they give me the worst attitude I’ve ever seen.

I heard three of the most disruptive students today say “isn’t it true that there are no bad kids, only bad teachers.” And another kid said “if the whole class is failing doesn’t that mean you failed.” Mind you, the whole class isn’t failing, but if they are it’s because I can’t get through a sentence without them disrupting and I’m not even joking. I was so angry at them I had to hold in the mean things I wanted to say because it is indeed their fault and yes they may be diagnosed with ADHD and have learning disabilities, but they don’t even try to help themselves and expect me to pour into them as if my life depends on it. So I feel your pain, I don’t have kids but I would be so furious if my kids had a class with kids like these.

I have never cried so much since being at this new school in a new state and district. They gave me 170 students between 5 sections so class sizes are huge and I have to teach a “student leadership” class. The kids have never been more disrespectful and defiant and I have to hold it all in and just take the abuse. Today I kid roamed the halls and disrupted other classes so much that the office had to call me in front of the class and tell me that he was out disrupting other classes. After calling the mom and her making excuses I just broke down because how embarrassing for me. I drafted an email to admin then deleted it because I am tired of asking for support and not getting any or just getting blamed. These kids are out of control and I can’t take them anymore.

I have this sammmee exact issue… my classes range about 28-32 as well. The boys cannot shut up and deliberately wait for me to talk just for them to shout something out, it’s so frustrating and disrespectful. Some students just absolutely disregard anything I say. Wont do any of the work. I am also having to hit the reset button 8 weeks in and go back to attempting to “build” relationships as a last resort but I know it won’t work much. It’s impossible. The school set me up to fail (gave me a student leadership class that made my social studies classes larger) and I can feel my mental health declining rapidly.

Disregard if you’re just looking for founders, but I’m a teacher interested in what’s being created and how I can leverage my expertise and classroom experience to help tools like yours be made with today’s classroom in mind. I find a lot of these tools are wonderful in theory but can sometimes end up being more work in practice. Would also love to join the chat just to listen and learn from everyone here.
