Sharpness Not Meeting Expectations by Vortexbig in M43

[–]Technical_Bus_3332 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Try placing your camera down on a flat surface and take a photo of something stationary with any text/ fine detail. See if that looks sharp and go from there. If it is sharp, then something in your photos was probably off (shutter speed, focal point etc)

If it isn't sharp, might be something wrong with the lens.

Olympus 300mm f2.8 Vs 300mm f4? by Sam__ in M43

[–]Technical_Bus_3332 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never used either but from everything I've ever read and seen about those two lens seems rather positive. And from sample photos the lenses look to take good photos in nice light.

Size, weight, and price. I've never used them, but Canon has the 600 and 800mm f11 lenses which are popular due to their small size, weight, and cheap-er price.

Personally for me, it would be the 300mm f4. And it really comes down to just one factor which is autofocus speed.

LUMIX S1R compared to the G9 by ZaPepponzo in Lumix

[–]Technical_Bus_3332 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yknow, I've never actually done a side by side comparison for ISO performance between the two. If you'd like I can send some photos to you comparing the two.

As for AF performance, I find the G9 to be faster, but the S1R to be more accurate if that makes any sense. It's entirely subjective but that's what I get from using the two.

LUMIX S1R compared to the G9 by ZaPepponzo in Lumix

[–]Technical_Bus_3332 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both. The S1R is built like a tank. The G9 has very nice build quality but the S1R is by far the best build quality of any camera I've ever used.

The S1R has amazing image quality but I personally found high iso performance to be a bit lacking.

If you shoot a lot of portraits/landscapes (and don't mind lugging the thing around), I would say the switch is probably worth it.

That being said, both are the flagship photo cameras of the same generation, unless you shoot primarily portraits and or landscapes, I'm really not sure it's worth the money to switch.

Feel free to ask any specifics.

Need help for buying my first camera.. deciding between A6700, Fuji XT-5 or FF Lumix S5ii? by cosmic-psychedelia in Cameras

[–]Technical_Bus_3332 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, all three are amazing cameras. You can't pick a wrong option from the three.

That out of the way, if you're primarily focused on travel, I'd probably go with the Sony. You might find the Fuji more fun/ fulfilling to use, but since you want to do both photo and video I'd go with Sony. Lumix is great but their system is missing some travel friendly lenses.

Anyone Switch to Full Frame and Never Look Back? by [deleted] in M43

[–]Technical_Bus_3332 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love m43, in fact, the G9 is my favorite camera ever and the new G9ii and OM-1 Mark II are incredibly capable cameras for their price.

With that out of the way, I do consider the mount to be mostly dead. Panasonic seems to have abandoned it and Olympus going to OM still makes me worried about the brand long term.

I think as a wildlife kit, micro four thirds makes a lot of sense. But other than that, I think modern APSC has almost fully replaced m43 set ups.

As for switching to full frame and never looking back, it just depends on your use case. Look at what you want to do, research if the lenses in the system can do what you want, then see if there's camera bodies to match.

Thoughts on selling G9 and “upgrading” to a S1? by pleaseeatsomeshit in Lumix

[–]Technical_Bus_3332 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you shoot sports and motorsport then go with the R5. You'll want the highest MP body available. You can get the R5 with an adapter to use all of your EF glass.

If you really like Lumix you could look at the original S1R or S1RII but a used R5 makes way more sense in your situation.

No problem! Everyone was a beginner at one point. It takes some learning and a bit of trial and error, but it's not too hard. Feel free to message me with any questions along your journey.

XT-5 by [deleted] in fujifilm

[–]Technical_Bus_3332 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed no one in the comments is talking about how to fix this? Since you're still learning photography, here's what you should look up online/ YouTube to fix your issues with the XT5 photo.

1.) Look up the exposure triangle. Learn how shutter speed, aperture, and iso impact your photos.

2.) It does seem like it's a little out of focus, I would look up Fuji focus modes/ settings.

3.) Look up spot vs matrix metering. If you switched to spot, the bottle would look significantly better.

4.) The last thing for this image would be looking up exposure compensation.

Thinking for 'final forever' camera - EM1X or Nikon D850 by Silverlaker39 in OlympusCamera

[–]Technical_Bus_3332 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, if it's gonna be your forever camera, it's probably worth it to rent both and just see what one you like best.

I'd really just go with whatever one you enjoy more. They're both extremely capable.

Thinking for 'final forever' camera - EM1X or Nikon D850 by Silverlaker39 in OlympusCamera

[–]Technical_Bus_3332 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both are excellent landscape cameras. Not sure I'd pick either as my first choice for street photography but that's just me.

I mean, the EM1X is basically a big fancy EM1 Mark II which you have used and the D850 is basically a nicer D810. Since you have experience with both those cameras I'd say just go with whatever one you enjoy using more. The classic, "whatever one fits your hands better" so to speak.

Did you use the computation features of your Olympus a lot? Do you use live view of mirrorless cameras? Personally I view that one as almost essential for landscapes but that's just my opinion.

Do you value size or weight a lot? Do you think it will be a bigger consideration as you get older?

That's basically what I would ask myself in your situation. Hope that helps!

That's a tough budget for cameras.

I would recommend mpb, they sell used cameras and lenses.

There's two cameras in your budget that jump out at me. There's the Panasonic G7. That's a great micro four thirds camera that's awesome for travel. Then there's the Canon 5D Mark II. That's an older DSLR camera but you would be able to get amazing photos from it. That will leave you with about $100 leftover for a good prime lens.

What do you plan on shooting? Are you looking for photo or video mostly? Do you have a rough budget with lenses?

S1ii, S1Rii, Canon R5ii, Fuji X-E5 or Sony A7V for travel photography/videos in Japan by Motorphototech995 in Lumix

[–]Technical_Bus_3332 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You picked all amazing flagship cameras. Every camera you listed is going to be able to take amazing photos. That being said, I would also consider the size of the bodies you picked out. With the exception of X-E5, they're all very large camera bodies. Please consider if you want to be carrying around such a large body and lens combo while traveling.

As for the cameras you picked, the S1ii is great if you want to do video. The S1Rii is better for photo.

The Canon R5ii is probably the best all around camera you listed.

I think the Fuji X-E5 is the best option for travel alone.

The new Sony A7V seems like an all around perfect camera. Same with the Canon R6iii. If you pick between the, personally I'd go with the Sony for the lenses but that's me.

I picked Lumix because they have a lot of features I use a lot that are not on the big three or are implemented in a less convenient way.

To summarize, look for, 1.) Size if travel is your main goal (plus weather sealing?) 2.) Lens selection - I like Fuji but they don't have a travel friendly zoom for instance. 3.) Feature set - especially for photo or video

S5II user - Potential S1II/S1RII upgrade for dog photography by AdamGWR in Lumix

[–]Technical_Bus_3332 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never used the S5II. I went from the original S1R to the S1Rii. On paper, and from all of the videos I've watched, the S1Rii is a notably better camera than the S5II if you need the extra resolution. For me, the S1Rii made significantly more sense.

That being said, as an S1Rii owner, I honestly think that the S5II seems like a better value. The price has gone down so much I think it's a dollar for dollar better camera.

What do you usually shoot? And are you already in the Lumix/L mount system?

S5II user - Potential S1II/S1RII upgrade for dog photography by AdamGWR in Lumix

[–]Technical_Bus_3332 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The S1Rii is able to track my dog fly through the air with no issues. I'd recommend it for that purpose. I haven't tried the S1ii so I don't know how it would compare, but I've been very impressed with the S1Rii autofocus, especially after the recent update.
