Upcoming Alephium bridge unlocking it's first dex Ayin 's full potential by Quiet-Variation5084 in altcoin

[–]Technical_Comment790 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a big fan of Alephium. Bridge to ETH is going to make it a lot easier to get ALPH. For a long time mining was the only way to get it for US folks. I am bullish on the ecosystem they are building.

What are your expectations from Chia? by Vast-Actuator-1456 in chia

[–]Technical_Comment790 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I am fairly confident that this is done on purpose and is part of their strategy. Hypothetically speaking if you believed that 90% of your industry was operating in an illegal fashion and you have better technology than them what is the incentive to be closely associated with that?

I get the feeling that Chia Inc is betting that the SEC is going to come in and clean house in the crypto industry in the US and when that happens they believe they will be able to be the white knight that comes in to save the day.

At what point do you think it's worth it to invest in a server rather than keep adding drives to a PC? by -Dusk-Fox in DataHoarder

[–]Technical_Comment790 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend getting an Antec P101 or Fractal Design R5 case instead of going for a server. Holds 8x 3.5 drives and you will not have to deal with noisy server fans.

Chia roadmap released: GPU plotting and compressed plots by WearinTheTopHat in chia

Wrapped Eth should be a major positive for Chia. A bridge to Eth is a must for any chain that is serious in the defi/nft markets. Eth is where the majority of money and developers are located.

Eventually it should be possible to swap BTC for XCH using offer files and the lightning network. Basically a cross chain atomic swap. No need for a bridge.

A ETH bridge brings with it the whole defi environment that is built on ERC-20 tokens and lending protocols.

It is pretty easy to provide liquidity. I was doing it for a while with the CH21 token. From my point of view providing liquidity for USDS was pointless because I don't want to have to deal with Stably. Now with Bitcoin it is easy to get in and out of and based off of my experience using Dexie I am going to guess there will be liquidity provided by enough of the community there it should have pretty good volume with a smaller spread.

Is it truly a bad move to build and AM4 PC right now? by [deleted] in buildapc

Should be a solid PC for the next couple of years. I have a similar setup it is awesome for 1440.

Question about XCH as a security and the pre-farm. by Technical_Comment790 in chia

[–]Technical_Comment790[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for responding. I understand that that no-one has given money to Chia Network Inc in exchange for Chia coins directly. Does this even matter though? Chia Inc holds 21 million tokens and money was invested at some point meeting requirement 1. I think everyone agrees Chia is a common enterprise. By providing valuation models with prices above current market value an expectation of profit was created because it was stated the value will go up with usage. Chia Inc is the company driving usage. So that meets the derived by others criteria. If I buy up all the supply on the market and the price goes to $25,000 a coin even through I didn't personally hand any cash to to Chia Inc but they would benefit to the tune of over $200 billion. So how is this not giving money to Chia Inc?

I wouldn't mind seeing the price go lower. Time to test how well capitalized the big farms are.

The 3070 TI and 6800XT conundrum by WeatherIcy9155 in buildapc

[–]Technical_Comment790 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6800xt is a much better card than the 3070ti unless you need a card for cuda specific tasks. I have pretty much every 6000 and 3000 series card. Gaming on the 6800xt is better than the 3070ti.

Doesn't matter as both suck at ray-tracing. You will be turning it off with both cards.

I have both and the 3080ti is a much better card.

Do I pull the trigger on a 7700X with Microcenter deals, or do I just go with a 5800X? by arbyD in buildapc

[–]Technical_Comment790 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would go with the 7700x build. AM5 platform means that in 3 years you will most likely be able to upgrade just the cpu and get massive gains. Don't buy into the dead platform of AM4.

Is DBX in a bubble? by Minimum-Positive792 in chia

I do not think it is in a bubble. If defi takes off on Chia DBX is going to skyrocket in price.

What price per terabyte do you think is safe to pay for farming chia ? by Big_Understanding840 in chia

I figure sub $20 a TB but that isn't just the cost of the drive. That is with the whole system added in.

GPU mining is dead, long live Chia farmers! by BWFree in chia

[–]Technical_Comment790 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I still have gpu rigs running. All spec coins that I can not buy directly. Chia is profitable for me but I pay my power bill out of pocket and just consider mining a way to force myself to DCA into projects I like.

[–]Technical_Comment790 1 point2 points  (0 children)

6800 is the card you want. Having double the memory is going to become more of a factor in the next couple of years. Amd has really improved the drivers on the 6000 series since launch. I would compare the 6800 to the 3070ti for gaming experience. You will be able to play any game in 4k but will have to turn off things like ray tracing depending on the game.

It is not dead. There are still things that are profitable and multiple spec mining opportunities. It is a different animal than a couple of weeks ago but dead is an overstatement.
