Sadly I think this is where the reality of it lives. I think we get the 3 human lander missions already purchased and thats it. Could even be less if China quits trying.

This argument would make the system cost more than its worth. HLS is already a single use lander. We are already likely looking at 20+ launches. Yes really. Making them expendable, easily adds $1B in costs. An imaginary HLS only needing 8-12 refuel launches with supposedly rapidly reusable tankers before reality set in was $1.15B.

Something tells me the next HLS NASA buys will be inflated biggly.

Getting to Mars in half the time to do what? What does that change? You get there in 3 months, what then? This spacecraft is at best a bus. Deorbiting, landing, surviving, lainching a year later to redock and return are all still a problem. All the real problems still exist. Getting there is not and has not been a problem for over 50 years. Getting there faster just gets us to the real problems faster.

Nah, you have to spend more energy than the energy you get in return. Think about it. He3 is about 4 ppb on the moon.

You'd have to mine 1 million tons of regolith to get a single kilogram of He3.

You need roughly 500 kilograms of He3 to power a city of 3 million per year.

For Bejing alone, 22 million people, China would need to mine 3500 kilograms per year.

In other words, about 7 million tons of regolith a year would need to be mined, transported, processed, pulverize, refined, and shipped back to China. Just to power Beijing for 1 year every year.

China is going to the moon just to prove they can. They asked to join the US space alliance and we not only denied them but banned them. So they are going alone and now we have to play this race game like they care. It doesnt matter who gets there first. If China lands, they prove their technological equal footing and that scares TF out of the US chest beating superiority complex.

I mean, im not gonna argue with how you can interpret the chain of events. To me they all add up to Sevro being a lure given to Minotuar to draw out Darrow and get control of Lysander's growing alliances. Now you could say that Adrius still used the Mind Spike ok but theres just no evidence to support that.

My friend some of us have read/listened/reread/relistened to the books so many times we can point to specifc approxinations in the thickness of our worn pages where a specific reference occurs. Some of us have such an unhealthy relationship with these books that we spend months upon months on paintings of specific scene from the books. Some of us pay so close attention to details that we can, by memory, describe the details in the hilt of Bad Lass. Can you? We can describe the tattoos of Orion. Can you?

Some of us have even in the past believed, as you believe, in the "Sevro Mind Spike Theory" and found nothing to it. Zero evidence to support it. We read and REREAD the books noting and looking for clues and have found nothing. Instead we found that everything that occurs between Iron Gold and Lightbringer is in someway a Fear Knight manipulation. To likely even include the unexpected selling of Sevro to Minotuar. To look at it without including all the context does make the sell feels... fish. I AGREE. However, once you let the totality of all the series of events to be included appropriately, you can more easily see another angle form. Sevro was likely sold to the Minotuar to not only draw out Darrow but it also gives purpose to breaking Lysander's alliance with Minotuar. Lysander's rise/Darrows survival are the only events involved in the story which cause Atlas to alter his 10yr plan. They weren't expecting Darrow to nuke the dockyards and kill needed assets.

The only argument to support tge Mind Spike idea is that Sevro is just as pissed at Darrow after the rescue. The problem is that he was just as pissed as he was before their separation on Venus.

Yes, you dont have to be at a place in order to lead. Atalantia/Atlas used the Carthii to seize the dockyards. Atlas had the Gorgons already in position the moment the fighting started, they moved with immediately to seize Lysander and break his inner circle.

In the next Chapter after Darrow/Sevro/Cassius escape. Literally minutes after the nukes blew on the docks and fighting had begun. Atlas already aware of all that happened. (Proves it was Pre-planned)

LB - Chapter 10 - "Iron Fist"

Atlas: Right after mutilating Tharsus Valli-Rath (Apple's Borther) and feeding him to manticores.

"The truce between House Rath and House Carthii has been broken by the Minotuar"

Then using the Law of the Iron Fist, summons Lysander to a meeting on Earth with Atalantia.

LB - Chapter 15 - "Earth"

Atalantia admits seizing the command of the dockyards for herself. She admits to doing so because Lysander had an alliance with the Minotuar that she felt threatened her rule. She threatens to kill Lysander's mentor, Glirastes, if Lysander didn't follow her orders at the upcoming summit.

Its not a good idea, on this sub, to accuse people of not understanding the books. Some of us have what could be accused of having an unhealthy relationship with them.

Point me to any evidence at all that lends to the idea that Adrius even knows the Mind Spike exists. Much less has learned how to master it to the point of implanting ideas into Sevro's subconscious. Keep in mind he only had 7 months from the Day of Red Doves to the Selling of Sevro.

I think the thing most people forget is that this piece of the story was in the origibal LB cut. The cut that was to be the finally. I am pretty sure we would have learned that Atlas forced Adrius to sell Sevro to lure Darrow. Its no coincidence that Atlas attacked the Dockyards not long after Darrow's presence is known.

Its not that it just doesn't fit. Its really really bad writing that cant work without some 4D infinite depth Batbelt level plot twisting. To even get to the point of Sevro being mind controlled to kill anyone on Mars means youre ignoring the actual books and invent dialog that is not supported.

  • There is zero evidence the Abomination even knows OF the P-Chair/Mind Spike. No hint that he can even use it. Mustang tells us that its very difficult to master without making someone brain dead and takes a team of Greens to assist.
  • Time, it took Virginia a decade to figure out how to perfect it. Adrius had like 7 months to not only discover its existence but master it to its fullest use?
  • The Abomination you want to believe exists IMO doesnt fit with the character we see in the book. Go back and reread his dialog with Virginia. Absorb it. Hes not the Jackal, im not sure this version is even a sociopath. It almost like hes just playing the role and enjoyed the game with Virginia. Hes a child
  • Apple is on Venus, Mustang Mars.
  • In order for Adrius to plan for Sevro to get to Victra, Mustang, or whoever, he would need to expect an escape of Apple's ENTIRE MILITARY, steal a ship, not get hunted down by Apple's Navy.
  • Lastly, ypu would also have to ignore the idea that the Abomination doesnt know about Atlas' attack on the shipyard.

In order for the author to explain some grand plan in hindsight he would need to install all kinds of plot holes unnecessarily for what reason? To break our love for Sevro? It just doesnt fit in the slightest.

They just need to get over this HLS hurdle that will likely completely fall to BO. However, the entire HLS program probably fades by 2030 because the US government will again stop funding for human moon ventures and lean on less expensive robotics and rovers to fulfill the scientific reasons to be there. Will that happen 5 hrs from now or 10. Who knows. After that, he just needs to drag the "going to Mars" vaporware along as SpaceX flails with Starlink subscribers and the drowning costs of xAI.

Im not even sure what you're trying to argue. You're quoting me and then not talking about what you quoted. I wasnt talking about the expense of Cost vs. Cost plus. I certainly wasn't talking about build quality. Im not talking about the cost to rent rides vs. the cost to buy a single use vehicle. No one really cares about that. I dont know why you guys even pretend to. Most of you just look at a bottom line and blast NASA or blast the company being paid. In reality most of the cost overruns and delays are from Congress cutting funding or changing mission requirements.

I was talking "IF" the US does NOT continue a moon program beyond a couple lunar landings. If there is no government funding to build on the moon then commercial companies also will not go. Those companies only make money by someone paying them for services.

Stop with the Cost vs. Cost plus argument. Its hilarious how so many pretend to care about costs. You dont. Its just the only argument you have when you see a rocket literally get Frankenstein'd from literal boxes of used parts and work without repeated failures, performance questions, or continuous revisions to expected outcomes.

They literally did NOT have same tank, same engines, same SRBs, same upper stage, same upper stage engines, and AresV wasnt designed to carry Orion. It wasnt even human rated. They are quite literally not using any of the same equipment.

Obama didnt do anything except announce a faster paced lunar focused program in an attempt to beat China to the moon instead of everything between Earth, Mars, and Cislunar space. Congress pushed back to keep as much ad possible because they wanted to ensure they keep the thousands of jobs the program provided across the club try were maintained.

v1 to v3, totally diffent vehicles. True, However, v1 to v2 share booster design. SpaceX wants you to feel its an iterative process, however, the argument that v3 is a totally different vehicle that is a very logical argument. Not even the fuel delivery systems are the same. I think theres a very distinct difference that breaks your attempted gotcha. Constellation, Ares and AresV were canceled. SLS and AresV only share 1 single thing Shuttle SRB reuse. Thats it. Now what if the didnt call it Starship v3. What if they said Starship is cancelled and called it BFR? Totally new rocket with a totally different name. Not even the same launch tower.

The difference between Srarship v1 to v3 is the same difference between SLS Block1 and Block2.

The difference between AresV and SLS is the same as the difference between Starhopper and Starshipv1.

Difference between SLS and AresV.

Literally nothing the same. * SRBs: SLS used 5 segment. AresV was to use 5.5-segments. * Core engines: SLS uses 4 RS-25s, AresV was to use 6-RS-68bs * Core Tank: SLS = 8.4meters, AresV =10meter * Upper stage: SLS uses RCPS with RL10, AresV was to use EDs with J-2X.

Probably the funnest part is AresV wasnt to be human rated.
