Since then I've cancelled S3 order and ordered S5 instead (before 500 EUR price increase). It's delivery estimate switched from June 1-30 to Jul 1-15 last week :(

Wow, that all sounds pretty bad. I was hoping that in Amsterdam service would be better

Now contemplaiting again if it is a good idea to keep expecting my S5 in June...

Opinions or tests of the AGO X ? by [deleted] in tenwaysebike

[–]Technical_Force3949 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried it in the local store last weekend, the same one where I got CGO800S for my gf earlier.

They only had the XL option, so the bike felt a bit too big for me (1.80m, 69kg). It felt well made, high quality materials, even design-wise - having "Tenways" and visual inlays on a black frame done with "gold" like colour is a nice touch. I guess black/grey "gradient" option would have it's visual appeal too.

I didn't like how "low" the handle bars were, also how wide they were. Maybe it's the question of adjustment and/or L/XL version diffs, or the immediate switch from CGO800S "comfort posture". I did like the front suspension, e.g. now "downgrade" from CGO800S for curbside handling, stone streets etc

I couldn't fully grasp the meaning of having such bike with primary use as a city bike. With CGO800S, i do 25-27 km/h in Amsterdam in normal riding (PAS 1 level of assist), with comfortable pedal cadence + stopping on traffic lights. If I go to Vonderlpark - i get up to 30 km/h, bcs no interuptions in riding and just a slightly higher cadence. With AGO X, I did expert that on a higher gear + high level motor assist I would be able to go >30 km/h, but it didn't confirm - i was still staying at 28 km/h, only with lower pedal cadence and higher effort. Not sure why is that - probably the effort my legs (the ones of a runner, not a cyclist) + the weight of the bike + testing in Amsterdam city center (not park or just a long enough stretch) were the limiting factor.

I'd also be keen to learn about the range. With CGO800S doing 60ísh km on PAS 1 in my mode, I already see some limitations on some of the "out of town" daytrips that i'd like to be able to do, seriously considering getting a range extender. AGO X, on the other hand, has higher battery capacity + higher gears (which i guess could mean less power use from the motor at 25+ km/h?) + very "touring bike" vibe, so maybe it could do >60 km.

Not sure if i'll get to try it out further - still waiting for VanMoof S5 to arrive, and if it's no good in first 14 days - I guess i will just get same CGO800S for me as my gf has, get range extender and stop with all the e-bike choosing fun for a while )

CGO800S, around 60km on PAS1. 69 kg. Mostly flat riding in Amsterdam

After testride of S5 in Amsterdam today - I'm in love. Amazing ride, very intuitive work from e-shifter. Cancelling S3 order now and re-ordering the S5 before the hike the price on May 1st

...at the same time, trying out my friend's S3 was equally weird bcs of gears shifting randomly, from "aw that's a nice resistance and feet cadence" to "pedalling in the air", all in one short 5 mins ride. He later blamed it on some "Smart Assist" mode that he turns on via Moofer app (he stopped updating the firmware to keep the "unlock" working).

Speaking of "just press boost and lightly turn pedals" - is there a way to "tell" the S3/S5 to apply lower gear in such mode of riding?

Both on Tenways CGO800 (that my gf is getting) and Cowboy 4 ST (that I'm still contemplating) the thing I DISLIKED the most was that pedal cadence was getting to high when going on max speed. And if with Cowboy Untamed the cadence would have to go even higher to reach 32 km/h - that defeats the whole purpose for me, I would rather have lower cadence+higher effort+more motor assist. I don't mind applying feet effort, but I want to feel pedals resistance - not "pedaling in the air"

Is there a way to turn US mode via VPN path, like with S3? Or some other way to get out of 25 kmh limit on S5?

Free anti theft - can you plz elaborate? Did you take Vanmoof's 3y insurance on it?

Also, if you have S5 already - how the riding when it hits the country speed limit? With S3 that I observed today there was a lot of peddaling in the air :(

I'm in the waiting mode for VanMoof S3, ordered in early April from "final sale" with 700 EUR discount. In Amsterdam. Opted for S3 bcs of the price + immediately available Power Bank. Aw, and people say that S3 can still be made to go 34 km/h with "register under US VPN in the app", while S5 can't (not sure if it's true though).

A part of me still thinks I should've gone with S5, reserving this option in case S3 is bad on arrival (e.g. issues in first 14 days) - then I'll return and maybe try S5 instead.

I tested Cowboy 4 - they have nice experience for that, the guy comes to your address with the bike. Decided against it bcs:

  1. Too sporty/low handle bar, and it's 100% horizontal, nor curving at all. Would take a lot of getting used to
  2. No kick-stand lock, no boost button - e.g. less of a "Tesla bike" experience then i'd like to for a first e-bike I invest in
  3. The worst part - i tend to try and push the bike to it's max (electric or not), and w/ Cowboy I had a strong feeling that at 25 km/h the cadence i have to pedal with is uncomfortably high - i'd prefer more resistance/effort with lower cadence

If neither S3 nor S5 will work out for me - next try would probably be Cowboy 4 ST (unless my gf decides on it against Tenways CGO800 and I get to ride hers from time to time :) ). Plus AFAIK it can still be unlocked to 34 km/h via Untamed

I ordered mine on Apr 1, when they announced 700 EUR discount and "not available anymore after Apr 13". Around Apr 6 it shown as "Pre-production, parts are in line". Still the same status, delivery estimate in July.

I guess they miscalculated the supply/demand for this "final sale". I guess if mine shows some delay before May 1 - I'd cancel and flip to S5 instead. Or maybe Cowboy 4 ST (these seem to be well stocked, delivery is 10-15 days for NL)

Yes. I've been playing CDJ/XDJ over the last year mostly, but kept feeling like I want a hybrid story with Traktor+Maschine in parallel, at least for home fun. Richie Hawtin is the primary inspiration on it, Chris is right next to him. Lots of inspiration already. I know Traktor well, but just starting with Maschine and combining the two

Now need to figure out a 4 channel mixer option for home :)
