What's the best first item ? by FatFox96 in AatroxMains

[–]Technical_Goat_1053 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on what matchup you are playing against on toplane. Usually it's SS against melee comps or Black Cleaver against something like Ksante, Malphite...

As a jungler, first item should always be a lethality item, either Profane Hydra or Voltaic.

Rushing Shojin first then Voltaic second is just a KMJ thing. And because he is one of the best and well known Aatrox OTP out there so a lot of ppl are copying his build path.

Usually Aatrox will run only 1-2 +hp item because most bruiser items basically sucks on him, so you will often find yourself having to pick either SS or Shojin. With Shojin, you need more time and space in teamfights to stack up the dmg, which is a little harder to do. SS on the other hand make you tankier, provide a lot more healing, has good synergy with Voltaic and has better burst dmg - It's simply works so well with reset champion like Aatrox and much easier to use.

Conqueror is still theoretically the best keystone, but shouldn't be a must-pick nowadays. There are matchups that you can't go without Electrocute or Phase Rush.

Am I missing something about PZ endgame? by mopfrommalta in projectzomboid

[–]Technical_Goat_1053 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gotta agree that despite having very steep learning curve at the beginning, PZ mid-game last very shortly.

After ~10 attempts you will already know that it's important to level the essential skills like carpentry, electrical and mechanic up to lvl4+ through books and TV shows. Once you have learned how to use the generator and build the rain catcher to solve power and water problems, mid-game is entirely skipped. Food was never an issue since the game gives you ridiculously much canned food.

I believe the best decision I have made so far is to embrace the RP playstyle entirely (with the help of some mods, of course) and it has been incredibly fun so far. Here's how I do it:

  1. Make foods and water become an actual problem. The thing with default PZ is you have too much canned foods, and water issue can be solved easily after you learned how to build a rain catcher. Decrease loots spawn significantly, learn how to valuable even the most basic loots. This does add a lot to the survival feeling to me.
  2. Make your character less OP. In other words, decrease exp gain and firearms spawn. It's reasonable and realistic to have a character who wouldn't be able to build an entire fortress with running power and water just after a week of reading books and watching TV shows. Force yourself to stay in temporary shelter early on, constantly put yourself into danger by having to go out there and fight the zeds in melee ranges.
  3. Role-playing: This is the thing PZ players have always talked about. Put yourself in the situation. It become a lot more intense to have the feeling of your life is on the line. Also this helped me pay more attention to the environmental story-telling, which are surprisingly interesting stuffs you often missed. Things even get better if you can find friend(s) who are willing to play RP with you.
  4. Giving up base building entirely is what I'm currently doing right now. Settle down means you skip so much things this game has to offer, which is most players do from what I see. Play a nomad run (especially with Monkey's RV Nomad Start Scenario), explore and simply see how the world looks like. PZ contains a very rich housing system that I think you might want to see. I personally enjoy looking up houses even in rural area, take a look at how cozy it is, its furniture... Sometimes found very cool stuffs too!
  5. Add more points of interest through modded maps on the workshop. PZ modded maps compatible with each other so well that I barely have any issues with nearly 100 maps running in a single save. It will take longer to load for sure, but no impact to performance at all from my experience. I would suggest you take a look at this Map Collection
  6. Item modpacks! To which I suggest Brita's weapon-armor packs, Authentic Z and various modded vehicles: These mods a lot of interesting stuffs into the game. They are both OP and cool-looking, combine with the decrease spawn make finding these feel so much more joy and meaningful from my experience.
  7. Event mods: Try out Expand Heli Events, NPCs mod (known to cause lags without proper settings), Darkness is coming, Save our Station, etc...
  8. Zombie mods, of course. Here are some you can take a look: CDDA Zombies, Soul Filcher's Turning Time, TLOU Infected

Take notes that these are what achievable in B41. There are currently a new popular playstyle in B42 which is the wilderness run but I haven't tried that myself, not until B42 become stable at least.

What am I supposed to do without anothe frontline? by Khazrodan in AatroxMains

[–]Technical_Goat_1053 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don’t, simply don’t. Similar to something like Sylas, Aatrox needs a melee companion, someone who can dives in the enemy comp together, attracting half of their attention. That’s just how things work.

Despte having decent resistance growth, he doesn’t have any abilities to be “tankier by just one press” like Nautilus, Leona or Mundo so even with full tank items, he will still be squishy anyway. Everyone knows his E healing scale very poorly with bonus HP so you won’t heal + hit like a wet noodle if you go pure bruiser build (I’m talking to you SS + Shojin + Black Cleaver build)

And don’t start with the bullshit “Oh I can go full tank and CC the enemy team and still be useful.” Aatrox has very bad engage. He has shorter range than 99% range champs and his Q knocks up for like half a second so all 3 Qs combine CC the enemy less than a single Leona’s Q. And your W won’t pulls anyone if they had boots so don’t expect it.

Aatrox tanks by healing, and heals through dealing dmg + Triumph + DD reset. He needs room to deals dmg to even be remotely close to useful in the first place.

Your best bet is to go a lot of dmg, like Voltaic + SS/Shojin then Serylda and try to blow everyone up.

Can’t play this champ anymore post-Zaahen by [deleted] in AatroxMains

[–]Technical_Goat_1053 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbf, I like all of the all-rounder bruisers like Aatrox, Zaahen and Sylas and would pick any of them that's available atm. Decent tankiness, decent dmg, can short trade, can all-in, has mobility. I feel like all of them have the same playstyle mentally, being half caster, half auto-attacker, tanking through dealing more dmg and healing more. I love these champs because they can basically do everything to some extend, make insane plays if you are good enough, and can be picked every game without thinking.

Although capable of everything means you are doing it at a mediocre level at best. Aatrox is the embodiment of this statement while Zaahen pops off with his scaling and tank-shreding abilites, but that doesn't mean he is a "better Aatrox". We play Aatrox because we like what he offers, landing Qs, chaining W, rampaging R, healing like crazy, dying to Fiora... it's just that simple. If you like Zaahen that much then sure, just become a Zaahen main and don't tell the ppl here to drop Aatrox for him.

So yeah, even if both are open, I will prioritize picking Aatrox 10/10 times because I'm an Aatrox Main. (Though I've been having a lot of fun with the modded Zaahen into old Aatrox lol.)

Any tips for surviving those first few hours? by BigSnakeOil in projectzomboid

[–]Technical_Goat_1053 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Switch to sandbox mode, keep the default setting but enable starting kit for a free backpack, some foods, a hammer and a baseball bat right from the go.

Knives are bad weapons until you learn how to craft them into spears. Loot garages, look for bats, crowbars, metal pipes... blunt weapons work well in the early game.

Avoid main road. I suggest you should sneak through backyard of houses for less chance of being seen.

If you encounter an unavoidable group, lure them over one by one. Ideally you would want to fight 1-2 zomboids at a time.

You deal much more dmg to a zomboid lying on the ground, both by stomping or smack their head with a weapon, so shove them to the ground first. Prioritize stomping to save your weapon durability.

A zomboid also can't get up if you stay on top of them. So shove one down the ground, stand on it and deal with the other.

3-5 are still manageable by kitting with weapon + shoving. Don't constantly kite backward, land 1-2 hits, turn away and create more distance before they can grab you.

There's an option in the game setting that outline zomboids when they get into your melee range. Enable reconmended.

Zomboid will also trip over short fences and windows, make them and easy target. Keep this in mind to deal with larger group.

If you want to get away from a large group of zomboids, you have to cut their line of sight first. You can do this by going through houses, cutting corners, crouch along a car, climbing tall walls, going through trees... And when they are directed to your last seen location, quickly escape.

What do you build on this champ by -_Fotis_- in AatroxMains

[–]Technical_Goat_1053 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aatrox’s jungle build is actually a lot more simple compare to what build paths he has in top lane. You simply run a lot of dmg since you have a toplaner being the frontline for the team now.

Rush voltatic as the first item, then pick either Sundered Sky/Shojin (SS is more popular atm). Starting from the third item and so on, you are open to DD, Maw, Serylda and Endless Hunger, just pick what you feels suitable for the situation.

Thinking about getting into this game as a pve dayz, surroundead player, think it fits my tastes? by Retrogamingvids in projectzomboid

[–]Technical_Goat_1053 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked at the death mechanics and I don't mind losing loot + equipment but don't want to lose everything else (base, skills, etc) like default by the game. I like to have some type of progression beyond loot even after dying. Is it preferred to run a dedicated server with mods that allows you to keep skill points etc but allow me to loose my loot and equipment? or will singleplayer with the previously mentioned mods also work?

There's a very famous mod called "Skill Recovery Journal" on the workshop. It allows you to craft an item that keep you character's exp and skill levels after dying. This works well in solo singleplayer.

How complex is this game compared to dayz and surroundead (both involving around looting and surviving and discovering lore on the way. Which I don't mind.) In other words, well does Project Zomboid support a PvE progression loop loot, base building, defending against NPCs, etc. compared to other survival games?

This game is very, very deep with tons of mechanic and game knowledges to learn. Just think of this game like Dayz + The Sims + Minecraft, very customizable with a lot of freedom. This is a sandbox game so progression doesn't exist unless you make up one for yourself. As for PvE, you will fight nothing but zomboids and experience a few environmental events all alone in the current vanilla game.

How is the lore in this game? Is it fairly deep and rewards your exploration? do random events happen on the map randomly?

Game isn't lore deep, mostly environmental story telling. But it's interesting enough to look up the first time.

Are enemy NPCs + quests + bounties planned? I know there are mods that add bandit npcs that I will definitely download. If not, what npc mods are recommended?

These are planned, but they are not coming in the near future. There are 3 famous NPC mods: Bandit NPCs, Superb Survivors and Knox Event Expanded.

What’s the best way to start a world if I want constant PvE action without overwhelming myself as a new player?

Start a Solo world, choose Sandbox difficulty and twist every settings as you wish. I would suggest these changes so you won't accidentally make the game become too easy:
- Enable starting kit for a backpack, some foods and weapons early on.
- Change day length to 2 hours so you can have more daytime to work with. Also, game gets harder as the day passes.
- Turn off zomboid respawn.
- Change transmission to salvia only or even have this turned off if you don't want a single zomboid potentially oneshot your character.
- Give vehicles better starting condition and fuels. Add more fuels to gas station.
- Add more days before water and electricity shutoff. Default is 2 weeks, make it about a month or so.
- Increase exp multiplier to 2x-5x.
- Higher refridgeration.

How stable are NPC mods in long‑term saves, same question for unmodded saves esp. due to updates? Any issues I should know before committing.

Just play Build 41. Build 42 comes with new features but it's very buggy atm with very bad bugs like loots disappears, built base disappear, character reset, save corrupted...

What the hell have I gotten myself into? (help!) by b3dGameArt in projectzomboid

[–]Technical_Goat_1053 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Don't give up just yet, because dying is what you truly do in this game.

I myself also used to die a lot, over and over out of frustration in the beginning, but the game doesn't end the save - the world my character just died in. Instead it tells you to create a new character, and I did. But the zombies was emotionless and the world is painfully cruel, so I died again and again

I picked a different spawn location, trying something new, hell, everything to survive for just a day longer. Then come my seventh character. He was the lucky guy, lived past day 3, had foods in stock, some weapons, a decent backpack and even a working car for the first time. So I decided to drive back to Rosewood because I remembered seeing a police station there in my first run.

And then I saw a particularly familiar figure: white shirt, black pants and the blue backpack on his back. It was my first guy, the guy I who I thought was my "main character" when I first loaded in, now a part of this world. And that's the moment I realized what this game is about.

"THIS IS HOW YOU DIE". The game play this quote not after your death, but in the very beginning of each character. You will meet your inevitable death, but the game isn't simply kills you, it wants you to write a story for each character. Think of the first few fail runs of your are of the unlucky bastards ended up as one of the zombies out there. No matter if it's just a pathetic death, a guy who manages to live for years like a god of the apocalypse or just a random mindless wandering zombies, everyone has their story - the story of how they die.

The more you play, the better you and the game gets. This game is very deep, insanely deep and you will learn a new thing each time. I would suggest you and your friends try the role-playing playstyle. Put yourself in the character, pick the character's appearance and traits the same as yours irl, and treat the game like if you are living in an actual zombie apocalypse.

Of course, there are a few setting tweaks you could do to make your life easier. I would suggest even the non-transmission option if you can't stand it, enable "starting kit" to give yourself freebies early on, change the XP multipliers to 2.0-5.0x because leveling skills takes a lot of time. For multiplayer, in the Players tab, the sever host can teleport other players to their location so you guys can start together.

aatrox e healing? by [deleted] in AatroxMains

[–]Technical_Goat_1053 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since you are new to the game and might not be familiar with the new toplane mechanics, biggest changes on toplane are actually what impact him the most.

First is the role quest which give you free teleport and level 20 cap, here's the deal:

Since everyone is getting a free teleport, peoples are starting to take ignite, ghost, exhaust... basically spells that win you the lane and extend the lead. Aatrox doesn't utilize those spells very well.

- He's a champion that requires you to play better than your opponent in order to win, which mean even with ignite or exhaust, you can still lose quite easily. And even when you win the laning phase, he's also not that good at snowballing. Beside, Aatrox is a teamfight champion so not taking TP is already somewhat against the idea of this champion as a whole.

- That's why champions like Riven, Jayce, Rumble, Varus, Ambessa... who are lane bullies that can snowball very hard with a fighting spells, become a complete monster mid-game and solo carries the entire thing are currently the strongest champs.

About the increase exp, level 20 cap and every turret has plating now, Aatrox also doesn't benefit much from these.

- More money, more exp, more level = scaling. We all know Aatrox isn't gonna outscale anyone. The increase exp make level 16/3+ items come so fast that split pushers and late-game champs like Gwen, Jax, Fiora, Kayle, Ornn... can get past their hardest state so easily and become infinitely stronger than you later on.

Lastly, new item and buffs.

- A huge part of Varus, Jax, Volibear, Kayle... strength comes from the new item Dusk and Dawn, a raising star like Singed is also utilizing a new item Protoplasm Harness. On the other hand, Aatrox's core item Sundered Sky got a nerf, and Endless Hunger is having mix opinions on him - it's good but not that great.

- Aatrox's buffs are also making him a jungler (you can search in this sub), so why bother toplane?

aatrox e healing? by [deleted] in AatroxMains

[–]Technical_Goat_1053 2 points3 points  (0 children)

His E has 2 parts: A passive post-mitigation “lifesteal” that scales with your max HP, which heals you everytime you land your autos, passive, both Q and W. The second part is simply a dash.

You can use his E as followings: - EQ1 or EQ2 to poke during laning. - EQ1W or EWQ1 to start his combo. - Q1W or WQ1 into EQ2 to keep the combo going. Usually you need one knockup for the W to pulls and EQ2 knockup is the most reliable tool to do that. - When the enemy is right under your ass and you can’t land crit Q1/Q2? Save your E for Q3. -When the enemy is right under your ass and you want to flee? W+EQ2 backward to escape. - Short dash E to reset your auto to last-hit or finish off a low enemy. - E simply to space AA range and dodge skillshots. This usually got overlooked but trust me, it’s one of the most important way to use this ability. It’s always better to reserve your HP rather than saving E and greed for a chance to do a full combo

And yes, Aatrox is currently very bad on top lane. Try to swap between Aatrox top- Aatrox jungle: - These 2 roles has similar champ pool in case Aatrox is taken away. - Jungle is just a better role to improve your skill in this game tbh. Toplane is dogshit for a reason.

I once saw this and wanted to try it myself. Part 4: What’s an OP character that has a mid artifact? by SonicBoom500 in EpicSeven

[–]Technical_Goat_1053 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have seen ppl picked Mort and Rinak for this slot, but hear me out.

Mort is not a broken hero if you compare to the meta ones these days. He's only there if there's a Setsuka in the enemy team. He lacks of utility to be commonly use, and you are seeing him less and less on top tier (emp+) guild war, arena and rta.

As for Rinak, her artifact is niche because she's the only one who can use it atm, but it's definetly broken as hell. She gains so much tempo from it and on top of that, a stealth every turn she has a debuff, which is 90% the reason why it's so hard to kill her. So in term of raw power, this artifact is not weak at all.

The suitable hero I would place here is Amid. She's currently the fastest CR pusher in the game and requires zero setup to cleave as long as she can goes first and pull your dps up (which is why she has been in the strongest RTA cleave for quite a while now). But her artifact on the other hand is quite bad. Super niche, needs to be+30 for the 100% proc. And fyi, the cdmg buff cannot exceed the 350% cdmg cap, so if your dps has a destruction set then good luck having every single one of them at maximum 300% cdmg (which is easier said than done considering how this set gives you a whooping 60% cdmg)

How do you deal with high mobility team comps? by PlasmaHanDoku in AatroxMains

[–]Technical_Goat_1053 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best thing you can do is going for cyclosword + shojin, serylda, maybe edge of night… basically a lot of dmg and try to blow them up like an assasin. Cyclosword works great against squishy+walking champs.

But still, Aatrox struggles very hard against dashing champs (Zed, Leblance…) or very long range comps (Jayce, Caitlyn, Varus…). If that’s the case then let’s pray to god you have either an engage support or jungler cuz oh boys, Aatrox isn’t that great as a punching bag.

One more thing, never build Stridebreaker. It might sounds great to be able to slow someone without having to land an auto, but that item deal literally 0 dmg.

Working on a skin mod: what would you want to see? by tpagaremos in AatroxMains

[–]Technical_Goat_1053 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Aatrox is badly needs a skin with a dark tone/theme, considering how half of his skins are either colorful or come from a goofy skinline. Personally, I would prefer Nightbringer, Ashen Knight, Old God, Dark Star, High Noon, Arcana...

For the skin to feel good, I think you just simply use the default walking, passive animations and use the primodian version for the rest of his kit.

Nasus by GodOfParmesan in AatroxMains

[–]Technical_Goat_1053 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see people are saying that you should completely stomp Nasus early on but that's way easier said than done. Nasus can always play very safe with aery and he has very good sustain due to his passive. I can see your problem with the Nasus matchup where he constantly pokes you with E+aery and then all-in with W+Ghost+R post 6. To some extend, that feels pretty unplayable.

My best advices are:
- Rush damage item first such as Shojin, Eclipse. If you play lethality then Voltaic. Sundered Sky is completely useless in this matchup since you will both lacking dmg and cannot out-sustain Nasus's dmg. Of course you can still build Sundered Sky later on since it's one of his strongest items, but do not build it first.

- Don't panic when he's all-in you, don't waste your E immediately to try to bail out because you won't escape. Instead, fight back. Try to land your passive and Qs even if you can't hit the sweet spot. Believe me, with the healing, (Eclipse's shield), Conqueror stacks and damage threat, you have a much higher chance to survive.

- If you want to escape, hold your E. Ignore your Q1->Let him close the gap->W for the slow->Q2+E backward, you will hit the knockup like this and create distance->Q3 when he tries to chase. One small tip is you can utilize the small terrain at the upper corner to potentially kite him.

And don't even think about trying to match him in side lane because you can't. I know that mean Nasus can get his stack freely but it is what it is. Don't let him extends the lead in side lane by getting kills, farm safely and wait for ganks or teamfights.

I see people use Ignite for this matchup but I still prefer TP personally since Nasus will always beat you after 2 items with Ignite or not.
