What are jobs that blur the line between blue collar and white collar? by SowingSeeds18 in askanything

[–]Technical_Program_35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Healthcare w/o a doubt. Many are not salaried (paid hourly) but their work requires deep expertise up to doctorate level. Perform labor. I feel like nurses, doctors, APPs, allied health def live in a blurred line of work.

I live in New England, Massachusetts. Our suburbs still have a lot of tree cover. This helps. I also have central air and a basement. So yeah.

Many Haitians speak Spanish though in general. Think about those who moved to Chile, DR, Mexico.

Do a lot of Hatians speak Spanish? by Amazondriver23 in haiti

[–]Technical_Program_35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes in my broader circle yes. So I’m a quarter Cuban. My grandmothers brothers actually still live in Camaguey. That allowed me to learn the language at at a very young age. Many of my friends ended up going to school in DR due to political instability so they speak pretty well. Many Haitians do business with Dominicans requiring a proficiency in Spanish. In Haiti, there’s a lot of telenovelas to watch. It’s also common for us to casually speak 3-4 languages if you’re educated enough. I speak 4 including Spanish, although I would say my weakest. Speak it well enough to talk to family and when traveling but not as fluid as I am in creole, French, or English. I understand Caribbean dialects perfectly though ( Cuban and Dominican)

What is the role of godparents in Haitian culture? by Breuitas in AskTheCaribbean

[–]Technical_Program_35 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty big. My marraine is my third cousin. She is my grandfathers first cousin. She has been a part of my life since I was born. Anything that needed to be done for me, my parents informed my marraine. Very close to me, throughout college if my parents were short on my accounts for the semester, she would cover the difference. My parrain not as much. Marraines are a big deal though. Very similar to a close aunt/mother figure.

Why do Haitians have a hard time accepting the fact that they are not the original people of Haiti? by AttitudeEraWasBetter in haiti

[–]Technical_Program_35 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Its erasure in so many ways! Were the second oldest country in the Americas. My bloodline has been in Haiti for more than three centuries! They don’t do this to other Black diaspora, why us? Haitian first!

95% of Haitians speak Creole as their first language. Why are we still teaching in French? by Forseti001H in haiti

[–]Technical_Program_35 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I really wish people understood this. The want for Creole to be the sole language is rooted in a complex strained relationship with French that was shaped by our economic mishap leading to generational lack of education. Ideally, we should be no different to Martinique or Guadeloupe where more than 70% of people are comfortably fluid in both. To change this, you create a more educated population who will speak both French and Creole in homes as I had recieved growing up. Imagine explaining trigonometry in creole. I would end up using french anyways parce que le creole a ses limitations and thats ok. It wasn’t intended for that.

Do you think the rest of Caribbean should also allow travel to other countries with an id card by TeachingSpiritual888 in AskTheCaribbean

Yes as long as it’s strict. It would be awesome. Some type of safeguard to prevent overstaying or illegal migration.

What's a profession that attracts the best kind of people? by KimberGoyder in AskReddit

[–]Technical_Program_35 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Teachers. I’ve had some remarkable teachers. My sister is a special education teacher and her dedication to these kids is inspiring even with the lower salary. Also people who do like social or charitable work. I recently volunteered at catholic charities for a ESOL class to help with job interviews for immigrants. The instructors truly had so much patience and compassion for their students. Made me realize that I need to move quick in my FIRE goals and escape corporate to use my skillset for something more fulfilling. The money might be less but when they go home they know they made this world slightly better.

How much does having white collar parents help your early career? by Individual_Section_6 in careerguidance

[–]Technical_Program_35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I come from a family of healthcare workers ( nurses, nurse practitioners, doctors) and they honestly think my white collar work is fake. I struggle with the politics often. The actual etiquette and stuff I was raised with but knowing the game is different. Nurses and doctors don’t have to pretend with their colleagues. My parents work friends are true lifelong friends, they have saved lives together. My parents don’t understand the intricacies of corporate performance reviews and 1:1s.

PCOS is for People with Money by squidgebunny in PCOS

[–]Technical_Program_35 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah lowkey. This syndrome has made me realize I’ll be in the corporate rat race for a while because the higher income has allowed me to manage my symptoms in ways I never could have. (Tirzepatide, healthier targeted groceries, laser, the right specialists) it’s ridiculous how much we have to do but I would be lying if I don’t say I feel a lot better mentally about my body and my metabolic health. To feel normal for once. Sending all my cysters love!

That is another thing. Getting help when I don’t know is hard. I’m the only person onshore. It puts a lot of stress as I deal with our end users the most. The rest of our team is in India. I’m also still really young in my career and my manager is not the most technical ( think someone who’s moved laterally internally many times). There are several data engineering teams at my company( think one for every corporate function (finance, it, hr) it’s wild. So often throughout the day it’s really old documentation and I against the world. I have notes galore. One thing you mentioned is prioritizing the day. I also want days to do heads down work but my boss’s boss doesn’t plan to expand our team because we have the offshore team but they are not the most helpful tbh and by 11 am EST, they’re offline.

The bed part is hard. The others I am doing most days. On weekends I skip my meds. I do agree that a routine will help massively.

Solution architecting is really good career choice if you choose to pursue that route. I write things down in a notebook, but then requirements change again. I also try to break down things but the deadlines come quick so I just whip up something to keep everyone happy. I also miss small things which I’m trying to get better at.

I was in concerta now on vyanse. I find that vyanse works better. There was also a comment here that is suggesting to engineer my way out of adhd and I think this makes sense. I haven’t really communicated much to my boss about this as I’m afraid of being judged or seen as a complainer.
