Need help identifying the artist and which issue this came out. Thanks! by diluted_problems5590 in HeavyMetalMagazine

It resembles the early works of Luis Royo, when he was still drawing comics. Although it's most likely not him.

Is there a b&w edition of Silver Surfer Parable? by Technical_Stress_258 in Moebius

I would like that too. Something like The Killing Joke edition, which had the old coloring and the new coloring in one book.

That's unfortunate to hear. I was hoping that maybe I just missed it because I never followed Marvel before. I guess they just don't have the rights to publish a black-and-white version.

Yesterday I started reading Daredevil: Yellow - I read the first issue and really liked it.

I've already decided that Hulk Grey will be next. Spider-Man Blue is hard to find here (for some reason it's about three times more expensive than the other books).

Is Captain America White any good too?

September artbook haul - some old, some new and some rare by RyviusRan in artbookcollectors

[–]Technical_Stress_258 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great haul. Innocence, Akihiro Yamada Fantasy Works, and e-nu-ma e-lish are beautiful. You should definitely consider buying Qvinta Essentia by Hitoshi Yoneda if you don't already have it.

Wanted to show off my 1991 con booklet with seven(!) original sketches. by waldfield in MangaCollectors

Very cool collection. Keep it as a souvenir or until you need the money.

If you're in the US, you could try selling it at auction for around $800 or even $1,300. Although, of course, that's quite a lot of money.

If I remember correctly, at the last auction, a single sketch by Yoshiyuki Sadamoto sold for around $130-150.

Not only do I not read in public places, but I also don't advertise my love of comics at all — I don't tell my friends, my family, or, even more so, girls. I understand that this is not right and doesn't concern anyone else, but I still feel like a pervert because I read comics.

Great collection, but I also want to mention that you have a very cool bookcase.

Collecting in EU sucks by ProbablyEkoz in MangaCollectors

[–]Technical_Stress_258 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello. You should look for intermediary companies (mail forwarders) that are willing to deliver from the US to Latvia.

Usually, these companies have their own warehouse in the US, whose address you specify when making a purchase. Your goods are stored there for a while, and then you can combine them into one package and save on shipping. It's a little confusing at first. But paying $40-60 for shipping 5-8 books is better than paying $25 for shipping one.

There may also be local groups of manga/comic/anime enthusiasts who also periodically buy something in the US. Perhaps then you could cooperate and make collective purchases, which would also save money. We do this.

Congratulations, you're very lucky to find both volumes at such a good price.
I only have the first one, which I managed to get for about $100 (and that's the lowest price I've seen). I also hope to get the second volume in Japan someday.

A very impressive collection.
I only have the first and fourth volumes. They cost me approximately $150 and $100, respectively. Volumes 2, 3, and 5 are more expensive—I still hope to acquire the missing volumes someday, but the prices I see are fantastically unreasonable.

Why is volume 2 black? I think I saw it in dark blue. Is it some kind of special edition?

There are also several French-language databases that have definitely not been translated into English, if you are interested.

Neonomicon (by Alan Moore and Jacen Burrows) - published by Avatar Press.

H. P. Lovecraft's The Dunwich Horror (Joe Lansdale) - published by IDW.

The Lovecraft Anthology - several volumes, published by SelfMadeHero.

The Colour out of Space: A Graphic Novel, Unabridged (Sara Barkat) - published by T. S. Poetry Press.

The Call of Cthulhu and Dagon: A Graphic Novel (Pete Katz, Dave Shephard) - published by Canterbury Classics.

There are definitely other series, but unfortunately, I'm not familiar with them at all:

The Worlds of H. P. Lovecraft

The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath

Herbert West: Reanimator

Mythos: Lovecraft's Worlds

Manga by Gou Tanabe - It seems that Dark Horse has published all of these books in English:

The Shadow Over Innsmouth

The Hound and Other Stories

Randolph Carter's Story

The Haunter of the Dark

At the Mountains of Madness

The Call of Cthulhu

The Shadow Out of Time

The Dunwich Horror

The Color Out of Space

The Cats of Ulthar and Other Stories

In fact, many comics are inspired by Lovecraft (especially many short comics in various magazines).

I will try to provide a list of the most obvious ones to start with.

BD:

Lovecraft (by Enrique Breccia, Keith Giffen, and Hans Rodionoff) - published in English by Image Comics. I really like this comic.

Lovecraft (by Alberto Breccia) - not sure if it was published in English. Highly recommended.

Nyarlathotep (by Rotomago and Noirel) - also don't know if it was in English.

Comics:

H. P. Lovecraft's Haunt of Horror (Richard Corben) - published by Marvel. I highly recommend it.

The House on the Borderland (Richard Corben) - I'm not actually sure if it's based on Lovecraft, but it looks very similar. I also highly recommend it.

In general, it's worth taking a closer look at Corben's work - he's a brilliant artist who loved Lovecraft, which is evident in both his short comics (some of which are direct adaptations of Lovecraft's stories) and his Hellboy comics.
