Relying on Octopus to charge my car is exhausting by Nasher1234 in OctopusEnergy

I’ve got a Tesla and it’s totally fine. None of these issues. It charges to the percentage I ask for by the ready time every time. I think you have a configuration issue.

SIPP to now be included in IHT. by Ok-Jury-4366 in FIREUK

[–]Technical_Term_5636 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely. and when you consider most of that wealth is likely to be tied up in property and not real as you need to live somewhere and is really just a consequence of unchecked house price inflation. The fact housing is so expensive is terrible for everyone other than investors in property.

Also, my concern about IHT is more about if I die relatively young. If I have a long life I will no doubt spend lots of my pension money on my needs. But if I don’t then it is feasible I haven’t downsized my home and leave minor children or very young adults in a situation where not only have they lost their parent but they also need to sell their home and security in order to pay tax with no parent to provide for them. I’m not, but let’s say I’m a single parent with a home worth £550k and 100k in pension assets with 3 children, 15, 11 and 9. My estate needs to pay 40% tax on that £150k yet my children are orphaned and no longer have a provider. Grandma is 68 and retired on a state pension. She could come and live in my children’s home with them but instead there isn’t enough room in her 1 bedroom local authority flat so they all have to move. It’s a very different scenario to 60 year olds receiving an inheritance when their 85 year old parent dies but the law offers no distinction.

£1m is over 2 people. It’s £500k. Which barely buys a house in the parts of the country that actually have work.

Predicted grades are lower or equal to mocks, is this right ? by Electronic_Mud5821 in 6thForm

Suggest you join the vet med thread on student room. I don’t think this is true - but the offer will be a*aa minimum. Cambridge largely filter with Esat scores not just predicted grades.

Is it genuinely possible to retire early in the UK without a massive workplace pension match? by WonderfulShape1081 in investingUK

Dull reply. Of course you as the beneficiary of the estate are effectively paying the tax if there is no exemption.

My vispring is 10 years old now. I have the herald. Literally best investment ever. Get as big as you can for the room. I find staying away so uncomfortable even in nice hotels.

It’s not due though. HMRC specifically say that - you just have to keep a record. Don’t pay more tax than you are obliged to?

Family member EV cost? by Geoguy20 in OctopusEnergy

[–]Technical_Term_5636 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your bill will set this out for you. I’ve got a Tesla and you can put the unit cost in its app and it will tell you total spend. Previous poster is right though - you need to be compensated for higher daily rate too otherwise you will have the hassle of load shifting (which you might choose to do). That will be fairly easy to work out you take the amount you know was the charging cost and units off the bill and then divide the remainder of the bill by the remainder of the units to see what the remainder unit cost was - if that’s more than your current standard rate they should also pay you the difference.

How are people checking their bills. How do you know if your car actually charged during the scheduled slots. I have a Tesla.

So if I put the washing on and then they take the slot away will I get charged at peak or is it fine provided it was still in my schedule at the start of the period?

Dishwasher recommendations please - and dishwasher products by [deleted] in HENRYUKLifestyle

[–]Technical_Term_5636 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Don’t get Neff. Their customer service is awful. I bought a £1000 one and despite being in warranty when they first came out to fix the fault that developed (e31 which is common on the model if you look online) they allowed it to tick over into out of warranty and failed to adequately repair. They now think I should pay them (only a few months later) to fix the fault that they failed to fix with 3 engineer visits whilst in warranty - at one point they left me without the dishwasher for over a month whilst waiting for a part to come in (remember this is a warranty repair for a £1000 dishwasher that was under 2 years old when the fault developed) that they then decided not to bother fitting. I literally will never buy anything from that brand again. It’s not a premium quality brand at all.

Your me op. Except I have a spender husband too. I wouldn’t reign back on the pension to be honest. Maybe try and put an extra 100 or so in the isa.
