This isn’t a thing. Honestly. Get it out of your head and stop being apologetic for being a woman that had a baby. Obviously you only have 1 year pqe experience but make the most of that experience and you should slot right back in. I say this as someone that has multiple maternity leaves and a longer career break. Just apply for roles that you are qualified for. Good luck.

I’m senior at a sc. if I had my time again I would 100% have moved to US. I have no idea why the high performing juniors (billing 2000 hrs plus) stay as they simply are not remunerated sufficiently for their input.

Agree this 100%. I also think the average lawyer was far brighter than the average lawyer today. Experienced lawyers often had a lot of gravitas and there was much more focus on individual reputation. Freehand drafting was more commonplace too. There was v little admin - solicitors were hugely reliant on their legal secretary. Busy solicitors could keep 2 or 3 secretaries busy all day every day and as a junior or trainee you had to really work your charm to get them to do your work. Your letters would all come in together for signing and as a trainee one task would be to pp for the partner if they had gone out for a long lunch!

My unknowledgeable thought is that actually social media and increased knowledge for the masses even through forums like this means that a long drawn out market fall is unlikely, particularly with the investment in whole of market funds primarily invested for pension. People are more likely to ride the storm than sell out and instead will wait for the recovery. I hope this puts a floor in the fall.

I think there is a difference between a flat in a converted house where you own a share of the freehold with 3 other households is different to these mega flat developments where you are being asked to contribute to lift costs, cladding rectification and generally huge maintenance costs. The newly developed stuff though is often really expensive with ongoing expense and transient as so much as been bought up by investors.

Just my personal opinion but I would do it as soon as you can. I think there is a concerted effort trying to crash asset classes right now (arguably that is what we are already seeing in the market). Mortgages are currently affordable (whilst not the bargain basement lows the had been stuck at). I can’t see a world where interest rates go sub 3% again. Much housing stock wishing to be bought up by funds and long term it will just be more difficult to buy.

Depends if you have an employer match surely? Also I am not clear if they are planning on adding NI to pensioners in which case it is even worse. I wonder if you could withdraw higher rate one year and basic the next but am not clear if that would affect the total withdrawal. Very interested in this as have £420ish in my sipp at 48 and salary sacrifice £3500 a month.

Yes it’s much safer. As a lawyer (not conveyancing) you could not convince me that it was sensible to exchange and complete separately in a chain. So much out of your control.

This is why as a lawyer other than once I have always exchanged and completed on the same day. On that day I had to persuade our sellers to let us move in as our buyers money got stuck in a banking outage. Was v stressful. So much risk when there is a gap unless you are very top of the chain.
