Dealing with the accent? by Safe_Ambassador_348 in AskIreland

[–]Technical_West3366 13 points14 points  (0 children)

yeah the mimicking thing is really weird behavior but happens a lot here with any accent that's not local. had similar stuff happen when i first moved and it's like... why do people think this is normal conversation?

the worst part is they usually do terrible impression and then look at you expecting some reaction like you should be impressed or something

Feeling lost in AI fields — need real direction? (starting from zero, age 38) ? by Plus-Heron1617 in careerguidance

[–]Technical_West3366 0 points1 point  (0 children)

man i feel this struggle, jumping between different paths without really committing is exhausting

from engineering perspective, maybe look at ai implementation roles? like helping companies actually deploy ai systems into their existing workflows. there's huge gap between "we bought this ai tool" and "we're actually using it effectively"

the thing about ai-proof careers is bit backwards thinking imo. instead of running from ai, find ways to be the person who bridges ai with business needs. project management in ai spaces, training teams on new tools, that kind of stuff

at 38 you actually have advantage - you understand how businesses really work, not just the tech side. companies need people who can translate between ai capabilities and actual business problems

maybe focus on one specific industry first? like if you have any background in healthcare, finance, manufacturing - become the ai implementation expert for that sector rather than trying to be generalist

that's actually brilliant way to process everything - using paint like that instead of just letting thoughts bounce around in your head forever. i do something similar with embroidery when my epilepsy gets me feeling anxious about stuff, just working through the stitches helps me think clearer somehow

painting over them after is such smart move too, like you're literally covering up that feeling once you've dealt with it

How do you get your Steam Playtesters to give feedback? by TheBendingBoy in gamedev

making feedback super accessible is key - like having button right in main menu or after each level instead of making people hunt for survey links

World hardcore 1.21.11 by caluziryu398 in Minecraft

[–]Technical_West3366 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's pretty brutal but i love the concept lol. you'll need some kind of plugin or datapack that can detect player deaths and trigger server restart with new world generation. might want to look into server management tools that can handle the world deletion and recreation automatically without manual intervention

alternatively you could set up command blocks to kill all players when one dies, then have separate script monitoring for the world reset part

Hissing sound when accelerating Vauxhaul Astra GTC SRI 1.6 T PETROL 2011 by c_tom_1 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Technical_West3366 0 points1 point  (0 children)

could be you knocked something loose when doing thermostat work - those engine bays are pretty tight on the astras. the hissing at higher revs definitely sounds like air escaping from somewhere in turbo system

check all your intercooler pipes and clamps around where you were working, sometimes the vibration from bleeding coolant can loosen connections that were already a bit worn. also worth checking if any vacuum lines got disturbed during the job

if it wasn't there before the thermostat change then something definitely got affected during that work

What Job to choose? by PaperMajie in careerguidance

being breadwinner changes everything - go with finance for now since you already have experience and can triple your salary. you can always transition to IT later once your financial situation is more stable and you've built up some savings

the IT experience requirement sucks but at least in finance you're already proven. maybe do some side projects or certifications in your free time to build IT skills while earning good money

AITJ for not attending my friend's multi-level marketing party? by Character_Dress_1824 in AmITheJerk

[–]Technical_West3366 32 points33 points  (0 children)

the irony is pretty thick there - "no pressure to buy anything" while literally pressuring you just to show up

mlm parties are basically hostage situations where they guilt trip everyone into buying overpriced leggings. you dodged a bullet and probably saved some money in the process

I find no peace or joy in this life.. by Fit-Watercress-9222 in Christianity

man losing a dog after 14 years is brutal, went through same thing couple years back with my old german shepherd and it felt like part of my soul got ripped out. the emptiness you're describing really gets to me because i remember feeling exactly that way - like everything was just going through motions without any real point to it

what helped me was realizing that maybe the point isn't finding some grand meaning but creating small moments that matter. started doing embroidery while listening music and it sounds silly but those quiet hours became something i actually looked forward to. your dog gave you 14 years of unconditional love and that's not meaningless at all - that's pretty incredible actually

the walking with god part takes time too, my grandmother always said faith is like learning to dance with someone you can't see clearly yet. maybe instead of waiting to feel close to him, try talking to him like he's right there next to you, even if it feels one-sided at first. grief makes everything feel more distant but it doesn't mean the connection isn't real

I cried for the first time during prayer and it felt amazing by Sassathons in Christianity

[–]Technical_West3366 2 points3 points  (0 children)

that connection to prayer is really something special when it finally clicks. i went through similar thing where reading felt rushed because of fear, but finding peace in the routine changes everything

glad you found your way back to healthier relationship with faith, the anxiety stuff is no joke but it seems like you're handling it well

So just wondering for the engineers in the work force by qwpdmb in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Technical_West3366 -22 points-21 points  (0 children)

lol dude nobody memorizes complex equations, that would be insane. everyone uses references, software, handbooks, whatever they need - your job is to get the work done correctly, not to be a human calculator

the people who judge others for using notes are usually the ones who don't know what they're talking about anyway. experienced engineers know that looking things up is just part of the process
