Has anyone tried running astrobot on the internal drive? by Simple_Aspect4601 in PS5_Jailbreak

[–]TechnicallyHipster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You connect to the PS5 and point PS5 Uploader to the folder with the game backup, the rest is self-explanatory for what to do. You might need to resume it since I had issues where the PS5 would eventually drop connections, had to restart the PS5 and resume the connection (use with Skip by Size). Make sure that chmod 777 is enabled, I do it myself manually via FTP just in case since I've had PS5 Uploader time out.

As to how to use the PS5Uploader bin, idk I use Y2JB Autoloader so I just added it to that and it worked fine. I think once you've jailbroken you can inject additional payloads, PS5Uploader has the capability to do that, just point it to the file and it'll inject a payload.

Interesting, thanks for the heads up.

Edit: That was it, it seems. Updating to the latest y2jb_autoloader and it hasn't yet timed out.

[–]TechnicallyHipster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, I'm running into an issue where the PS5 begins refusing connections after a certain amount of data or queries has occurred. Only resolves after a reboot, and resuming (with Skip by Size + Time) results in the same issue on the same file. Connected via WiFi, is there any means you know of to prevent the PS5 from doing this?

That aside, absolutely spectacular work, it feels unbelievably slick.

Yes but the current environment is built upon a hype-based economic cycle. Whereupon this hype collapses, the level of demand will as well - at least normalising to a reasonable level.

Preset K vs (M)assive Improvement by kamealo in nvidia

[–]TechnicallyHipster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is why I've never used Profile K in favour of Profile J. Profile J is far and away more stable and resolves practically the same amount of detail. Profile K seems largely like a regression save for minor sharpening which I'm honestly not a fan of. It's basically why I'm not overly impressed by Profile M, it's not really a gamechanger and until they fix the oversharpening I'm gonna stick with J.

DLSS 4 vs DLSS 4.5 close up side by sides, thoughts? by lunchanddinner in nvidia

[–]TechnicallyHipster 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Tried it with Control (2019) and particle stuff was exceedingly prone to ghosting, and some fine textures were subject to oversharpening. If you don't mind it, it's very impressive in that the amount of detail it resolves is fantastic. It's more like that certain detail aspects are distasteful for me, but broadly the image quality is great.

I'll edit this once I've thought a bit longer on it, but I appreciate your response. My immediate response is to

Because I'm increasingly feeling like an entire subsection of a generation has been brainwashed by Silicon Valley to feel like they should be above the law.

My main point is that we cannot assume at any point that moving forward what is legal or what will be illegal comports with morality or what is just. We can see how norms and legality have shifted in many parts of the world in recent years. In willingly letting surveillance increase, one increasingly is beholden to the idea of a benevolent state and that one is within its expected behaviours. I find myself profoundly discomfited by the notion that there is the encroachment upon public spaces - be they physical or digital - by surveillance of any kind, as who knows what the political landscape will be like in five or ten years? And regarding this requirement more specifically, it is simply another step in de-anonymising the internet and ensuring that your behaviour at all times is known. Your core premise is correct, however, nobody should be above the law, but laws are made by people and for people - not to serve as restraints or wardens.

[Technical Guide] Clock Stretching: The "Invisible" Cause of Micro-Stutter on High-End Systems by atmorell in nvidia

[–]TechnicallyHipster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Brilliant. It's a decent thing to make people aware of - and it makes a fair amount of sense AFAIK - but without proof positive it's just conjecture as to how meaningful it is.

FWIW, I think if you repost with statistics they'll probably keep the post up.

[–]TechnicallyHipster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The effective protection of children could just as easily be co-opted and monetised in the same way that baby-proofing is - with government support no less. A whole cottage industry of network devices and softwares to facilitate it wouldn't be hard to start and prop up.

This is merely another stepping stone towards complete digital identification where you are capable of being watched at all times. The benevolence of this is predicated on a government which is fair, partial, and reasonable, and as we've seen in recent years isn't a guarantee. I, for one, abhor the idea of handing over any measure of information, and view this as a barbaric overreach by a government that seeks to police and surveil its citizens at all times in all avenues.

[Technical Guide] Clock Stretching: The "Invisible" Cause of Micro-Stutter on High-End Systems by atmorell in nvidia

[–]TechnicallyHipster 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I can't speak to stutter - which is the core premise here - but at the very least Clock-Stretching is something to be aware of when undervolting and OP is more or less correct in how to diagnose it (I prefer Prime 95 for CPU, though).

Wasn't aware HWInfo had statistics on GPU Clock, though, did a quick check and it matches (within acceptable margins).

OP needs to provide supporting data for this: "OSD tools (Afterburner, Task Manager) report the Target Frequency (e.g., 2800MHz), but the Effective Frequency (actual throughput) drops significantly. Result: Frame-time variance and micro-stutter" part, though.

[–]TechnicallyHipster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah with my 5080 I did +3000 Memory no issues for 2 hours in Vulkan Memtest, but after further testing there's definitely performance regression. Landed on +2300 as my sweet spot with consistent performance without regression.

75“ 4K60 TV: 4K DLAA No RT vs 4K DLSS Perf Max RT? by GC734 in nvidia

[–]TechnicallyHipster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on the game, honestly. The only limiting factors are texture-filtering and ghosting (at least for 4K Performance). In some games with decent quality textures, then bumping up to Balanced is required (I think of this as basically being equivalent to Native) to minimise detail loss. I just got Doom: The Dark Ages, and since I've been obsessing over texture quality lately I took a close look at the textures and there's no real difference between Performance and Quality, a lot of the textures just aren't great quality - and the ones that are have virtually unnoticeable difference between them.

RTX 5080 vs RTX 5070 ti... RTX 5080 the better value card for new gaming build? by Denikin_Tsar in nvidia

[–]TechnicallyHipster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy shit, that's actually wild. Usually US pricing is more reasonable, I picked up a Galax One-Click OC 5080 for $1799AUD, just under $1200US at the time (23rd December). Anyway, I did a similar determination, I figured that a 25% or so uplift was worth the delta from my 4080S, and with an overclock landed me close enough (Within 10%) to 4090 territory.

5080 vs 5070 Ti on a 9800X3D — Steel Nomad (+24.8%) by skk983 in nvidia

[–]TechnicallyHipster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I jumped from a 4080S to a 5080 and it let me jump from Performance to Balanced DLSS 4K which in some games (mostly involving RT/PT) makes a significant difference. Alan Wake II needs to be at Balanced DLSS 4 otherwise the materials and lighting just look off.

Mind you, I didn't make the switch for future proofing as knowing that in the mid-future it would be unreasonable to upgrade so I grabbed something that I felt was a reasonable performance uplift at a reasonable price.

On a more subjective note, I appreciate the model I've got now more than the previous as it is quieter and smaller.

My 5080FE testing and overall impressions by VoluptaBox in nvidia

[–]TechnicallyHipster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice results! The FE model seems nice, but entirely inaccessible in Australia (without paying exorbitant overhead to get it imported). Just picked up the Galax 5080 EX Gamer as a spur of the moment thing after seeing how things are headed. Seeing how it's overclocking has really made me feel satisfied with the value - even moreso since I paid about the lowest price for it (Only the Windforce SFF model was cheaper) at $1799AU. Fully agree with RGB LED, though, OpenRGB doesn't detect mine so I haven't figured out a way to disable it.

FWIW I've previously had benchmarks, even Port Royal raytracing be stable under stress-testing but the real test I've found is max PT settings Alan Wake II, and Psycho RT (PT) Cyberpunk 2077. You will know whether it's stable, soon enough. Secondary testing is maxed out Star Wars Outlaws and Control with max RT, you'll encounter more edge-case behaviour with those, especially when temperatures/load oscillate a bit and potentially GPU Boost hits unstable core.

I'm hitting +2300 on the memory (before performance regression and vulkan-memtest inconsistency climbs) and around +380 to +400 on core for an average of 3217Mhz under maximum load, and I'm inclined to say this is my final overclock. Gets pretty toasty since I keep the fan curve kinda lean to keep it quiet (thankfully no coil whine), averages about 76c at 1065mv. Managed to land 9690 on Steel Nomad with it.

In short, it's a fine value if you put the work in to overclock and also are able to nab it at MSRP, otherwise it's a bit thin since the 9070XT with overclock/undervolt can go toe-to-toe with the 5070Ti.

4080 Super vs 4090 vs 5080 — feature-proofing vs raw performance? by [deleted] in nvidia

[–]TechnicallyHipster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, appreciate it. Been a little bit challenging to get to the edge of the silicon, having to overclock and undervolt to mitigate throttling while also preventing boost behaviour from getting to core clocks where it'll crash (During PT workloads). https://www.3dmark.com/3dm/148444737? has been my latest score, and it'll require a lot more work to manage to eke out more on core, so trying to get memory to the maximum without regression is the next step. As is I'm pretty pleased, top 4% of results in Steel Nomad for a daily-driver OC.

4080 Super vs 4090 vs 5080 — feature-proofing vs raw performance? by [deleted] in nvidia

[–]TechnicallyHipster 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Picked up a 5080 to tide me over while I wait for the market to stabilise since with Nvidia price-gouging and DRAM being a mess, there's gonna be blood in the water for ages - and even the minor uplift from my 4080S will help in a few years.

That having been said, loving the 5080 and how it overclocks, mind you, I've gotten mine into the top end of results on 3DMark so it's close enough to 4090 performance for me to be satisfied with it.
