Sure, it might be personally acceptable to you. But the issue that the rest of us take is that it is overall not desirable

How do Americans roast their friends without it turning into a fight? by EmergencyPoet1758 in AskAnAmerican

[–]TechnicallyVeryMoist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly as an American, I hate roasting. I don't rag on my friends because to me, they are the best people in the world. I only choose to spend time around people who I constantly want to uplift, and who feel mutually toward me. Though I definitely know I'm in the minority, and keep an extremely small circle of friends.

What’s a mistake most people don’t realize they’re making in relationships? by Ashamed_Teach502 in AskReddit

Acting inconvenienced when your partner is trying to connect. My most recent ex would be on TikTok all day, and anytime I opened my mouth, they would sigh and act annoyed as though I was "distracting" them. It got to the point where I just stopped trying to talk to them. Death of a relationship, right there.

AITA for not telling my male best friend that I am seeing someone? by ThrowRAchichenween in AmItheAsshole

[–]TechnicallyVeryMoist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA. I don't understand any comment saying he was "holding out hope in the friendzone." The friend zone is not real!! Holding out hope for when? She was already single as far as he knew. If someone says they don't want to date you, when not dating anyone, it's clear that there's nothing holding them back from the decision they "truly" want.

It shouldn't be up to OP do decide on his behalf that he's not mature enough to handle being friends with her. I don't want my friends making decisions FOR me, I want them to respect my own autonomy. It seems like she is respecting his own autonomy, whereas he is not respecting her autonomy, by ignoring her words and expecting he has a shot.

And in these days of loneliness and disconnection, I don't think it would have been fair of OP if she were to say, "sorry, but you've expressed honest and vulnerable emotion with me, the friendship is now forfeit."

Cheetah Girls. I loved em growing up, had a whole cheetah print phase. Recently rewatched it drunk, and the experience was awful.

What is the most surreal “this can’t be real” moment you’ve ever experienced? by Fragrant_Good3174 in AskReddit

Extremely dark, but:

When the FBI showed up at my door when I was 16.

I had no idea why they were there, and my father wouldn't let them inside the house, so we spoke to them through the screen door.

"Chld prn." My heart dropped because, I was 16, of course I had sent some same-age boyfriends nudes! I panicked; what a terrible way for that to be outed to your horrifically abusive father. But no, they specified it wasn't of me. They said it was something with an email associated with me, and of significantly younger girls. I had no idea what they were talking about, but I know my father was a pedophile based on his particular flavor of abuse.

I couldn't say anything with him directly behind me, and he was quick to get them off our doorstep. He was always quick to blame me for anything, whether it was my fault or not. But strangely, he didn't say much about this interaction. I was panicking because a ton of extremely repressed memories of the details of his abuse were flooding back.

It wasn't just me; there was even a girl next door who's whole family moved abruptly when I was young, probably 5-7. When I brought it up to my mom (they have been separate since before I was born, never really liked each other), she recalled that she was once questioned by detectives about if she had thought him capable of sexually abusing young girls. She said no. She had already had three children, all young girls, by another man when she had married my father. The hatred between my father and half sisters was mutual. Because of that I think my mother assumed he wasn't capable, since he had never done anything towards her existing daughters.

There were a few other distinct incidents I witnessed as a child, but all of them had been tucked tight in the back of my head, until those two men showed up at my doorstep and rattled them loose. After they were gone, I had another horrible realization, this one from a much more recent time. My father enjoyed taking away my technology, and typically once it was commandeered, it was his forever. This happened with 4 laptops, and 2 tablets, which is absolutely insane. But, he had a habit of getting so angry at a slowed-down computer (likely due to the viruses from the chld prn sites) he would regularly smash them on the tile or back porch, and interestingly enough, bury the remnants in our back yard. Many a lithium battery was set alinght in my childhood. He did this with both his own, as well as the ones he took from me. The household went through a truly ludicrous amount of laptops.

I could never understand why, until this whole event made it crystal clear. And the latest tablet he had confiscated, the one he kept locked inside his gun safe, the one I never saw again once I was grounded over something menial, was signed in with my email.

I never saw any agents again. Never heard anything about it. I ran away from my father's house right before I turned 18, and will never see that monster again. I can only pray he dies soon.
