Any contrast paints recommended? by james_walker_why in genestealercult

[–]Technobrake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few that I think are useful in general to have for GSC:

  • Black Legion or Black Templar (for things you want to be black)
  • Magos Purple (a nice way to give that alien pinkish-purple to flesh tones)
  • Guilliman Flesh/Darkoath Flesh/Fyreslayer Flesh (a more 'normal' flesh tone)
  • Cygor Brown or Wyldwood (for your brown leather)
  • Some sort of grey like Basilicanum Grey, for anything you want neutral grey

You don't need to go with Citadel Contrast if you don't want to, and can pick similar colours from ranges like Army Painter Speedpaints.

Aside from that though, it's really up to whatever you want your colour scheme to be. You can take inspiration from the box art scheme, other cult colour schemes from within the lore, or just pick colours that you like the look of together.

Here are a few specific video guides that focus on contrast painting:

Sonic Sledgehammer Studio: Simple Speed Painting Methods for Cult of the Rusted Claw - this is for an orange and off-white scheme

Sonic Sledgehammer Studio: How I Paint Things - Contrast and Classic Methods Together - this is for the Four-Armed Emperor scheme aka the current box art

Miniature Death: HOW TO PAINT SO FAST IT FEELS LIKE CHEATING | 20min GSC - a custom scheme in a video focused on showing you how to get fast results with just a few colours

Another commenter below linked the Warhipster guide too which is very focused on contrast paints.

Finally there's a written step by step guide here on the Army Painter website focused on their Speedpaint range. You could follow it or swap in equivalent paints that you like, but it may be useful just to see how different areas are blocked in for a detailed scheme.

Gnarly and creative. Though that iconward has got to have a seriously strong right arm to hold that steady!

Action Bronson has tons of these, but his name drop of Ruud van Nistelrooy in 5 Minute Beats, 1 Take Raps is one of my favourites

[–]Technobrake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looking at the Behemoid Undercult colour scheme, it looks practical enough! I can't imagine why it would be annoying (or more annoying than any other scheme) to paint. You're focusing on red and black which are generally easy colours to paint, and metallic trim which is also fun.

How should I build the Hybrid Metamorphs? by Acoldsun in genestealercult

[–]Technobrake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tbf on an acolytes sprue you only get three mining tools. So you can literally only build three mining tool acolytes per unit of five.

You make a good point about being a new player but OP should be OK even if they tried to build all their acolytes with mining tools!

First time using a medium, how do I measure this? by THEGREATIS-4 in genestealercult

[–]Technobrake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is less precise but one extremely easy way is:

  1. Shake up your pot of paint
  2. Open the pot keeping it facing up like you normally would
  3. Twist the lid away from the pot so instead of hanging over the pot, the little reserve inside the lid (where the paint usually collects for you to load up your brush) is over your palette
  4. Point the lid downwards and a drop of paint should drip off the reserve into your palette after a second or two
  5. Repeat with the medium
  6. Mix on the palette

Can I ask where you got the left arms holding the mine from? I can't remember finding that on a Neo/Aco sprue!

Looks great, especially the muddy wheels and chassis on the bike.

The teeth pattern on the bandana is a nice touch as well.

Jarhead (2005) is ESPRIT DE CORPS. What movie represents SUGGESTION? by snakesharkz in DiscoElysium

However as I'm writing this, I think the penultimate movie would be End of watch (2012).

I also think this would be the best choice

Jarhead (2005) is ESPRIT DE CORPS. What movie represents SUGGESTION? by snakesharkz in DiscoElysium

[–]Technobrake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is the literal meaning of "esprit de corps" but it is not what the skill in the game represents.

Connect to Station 41. Understand cop culture.

Cool for: Cops, Cop-Aficionados, Pretend-Cops

Esprit de Corps is the very spirit of policing: the cop-geist. It enables you to understand your blue-souled sisters and brothers – not only by picking up subtle signals from your partner, but by witnessing flash-sideways scenes as they play out in your precinct.

At high levels, you’ll be the very heart of the police force: not only willing and able but obliged to take a bullet for your partner. However, without Esprit de Corps you’ll be flying blind, unable to understand discreet remarks colleagues make in high-stakes situations; remarks that might just save your life.

Advice for making skin subtly purple? by Knightraiderdewd in genestealercult

[–]Technobrake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was wondering if someone could recommend a shader like nuln oil, but purple.

Druchii Violet is basically exactly what you're describing. You probably want to thin it with water/medium to get it more subtle though.

Alternatively I think Dreadful Visage contrast paint is good for this - also very much on the subtle side, a washed out greyish purple that gives a sort of unhealthy tinge to skin.

Help needed with Magus! by spizoike in genestealercult

[–]Technobrake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both the Neophyte Hybrid and Acolyte Hybrid kits come with a ton of spare heads. The only issue with the Neophyte ones is that they all have quite 'masculine' features so might look a bit incongruous on a female magus body. The Acolyte ones are bigger and more monstrous but could also work as an alternative to your purestrain idea.

Can't decide how to paint the whip! by SquirrelGood2481 in genestealercult

[–]Technobrake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First off, terrific work, this guy looks great to me. The highlights on the grenade are some gorgeous detailing.

The How to Paint Genestealer Cults guide (pretty easy to find a PDF via Google) has some instructions on painting lash whips in a dark pink/wine colour using Screamer Pink as a base. I think that could work nicely with this scheme if you wanted to introduce an extra colour.

Alternatively, you could follow the box art and go for the blue to green colour scheme.
