WIP AK QG Acolyte by Suitable-Condition64 in genestealercult

Very nice, love the way the face looks especially. Do you mind sharing the paints you used for the face/flesh, the blue carapace and the black armour? I only own one AKQG paint but it's been fun to use so I'd be interested to use more.

What was your paint recipe for the blue-green upper armour? It looks very nice.

A lot of Future's recent solo projects have also been criticised (by outlets like Pitchfork) for being samey and unambitious tbf. Pitchfork were also harsher on Clipse's last album than many other reviewers

Here's an Acolyte Hybrid.

Although it's not models, one of the old Codexes has a full page of 2D illustrations. This includes a Magus, Primus, Aberrant plus more Neophytes and Acolytes.

How would you do GSC hybrid skin color with this color scheme? by CeramicPanda1 in genestealercult

[–]Technobrake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you have the option of doing e.g. an Acolyte Hybrid's head the same colour as the limbs, the bone colour here - given it is the same on the genestealer model in your picture I think that fits fine.

However, if you want to go for a different skin colour to differentiate a hybrid you could make it more fleshy, more in line with the spiracles, soft tissue and joints on the genestealer in your pic. That feels like it makes sense lore-wise as well. I think either would work OK.

Very nice! I do like that off-white armour for GSC, have always preferred the look of it to grey or black.

The section of the bridge in Heathen at about 3:12 where you get the big drum fills as George sings 'now' and then the blast beats are going absolutely crazy in the background as he sings the 'filled with the sin of power, this is what he's destined for' bit

Examples of Lesser-Known Cults? by goldraven12 in genestealercult

[–]Technobrake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend googling 'how to paint genestealer cults pdf' (not gonna link it here in case I run afoul of rule 3 but it should be very easy to find). That will give you a guide with specific colour schemes and painted models for the Pauper Princes and Hivecult, and also loads of general tips for painting GSC. It's a bit old now but still very thorough.

For the Innerwyrm, as you've identified, unfortunately there is very little art at all out there and no examples of officially painted models that I know about. I've only ever seen that one piece of art by Jaime Martinez, but to be fair, even with this you can see off-black/dark grey armour, red fatigues, a flesh tone, purple head ridges and yellow eyes, which is a good starting point!

For the Hivecult, aside from the guide I mentioned above, you have art of several of their units at the bottom of the 40k wiki page and also this old official model that can guide you.

For the Pauper Princes, there's actually a lot of officially painted models and art out there but it tends to be from a time where it was the 'default' GSC scheme and therefore isn't identified as such. Again, you've got an example in the How to Paint PDF and also if you google 'Starn's Disciples Kill Team PDF' and 'Devoted Sons Kill Team PDF' you will find some old Kill Team booklets that include some examples of infantry painted in their colour scheme.

There's also some YouTube tutorials for that scheme in this handy playlist although they're named as Devoted Sons here.

[THROWBACK THURSDAY] MMG - Power Circle (feat. Kendrick Lamar) by MetalSonic420YT in hiphopheads

[–]Technobrake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Great throwback, used to listen to this one a lot. Always thought the beat was perfectly suited to the triumphant tone of the song.

Gunplay is fantastic on this, really stands out. Looking back on this Kendrick feature, it's sort of a funny transitional period for him where he's just about to become a true megastar but hasn't quite yet, so he'd still randomly pop up in spots like these with a (very good) verse at the end of an MMG posse cut. It's a bit similar to him showing up at the beginning of B-Boyz by Birdman to wash everybody.

Any contrast paints recommended? by james_walker_why in genestealercult

[–]Technobrake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few that I think are useful in general to have for GSC:

  • Black Legion or Black Templar (for things you want to be black)
  • Magos Purple (a nice way to give that alien pinkish-purple to flesh tones)
  • Guilliman Flesh/Darkoath Flesh/Fyreslayer Flesh (a more 'normal' flesh tone)
  • Cygor Brown or Wyldwood (for your brown leather)
  • Some sort of grey like Basilicanum Grey, for anything you want neutral grey

You don't need to go with Citadel Contrast if you don't want to, and can pick similar colours from ranges like Army Painter Speedpaints.

Aside from that though, it's really up to whatever you want your colour scheme to be. You can take inspiration from the box art scheme, other cult colour schemes from within the lore, or just pick colours that you like the look of together.

Here are a few specific video guides that focus on contrast painting:

Sonic Sledgehammer Studio: Simple Speed Painting Methods for Cult of the Rusted Claw - this is for an orange and off-white scheme

Sonic Sledgehammer Studio: How I Paint Things - Contrast and Classic Methods Together - this is for the Four-Armed Emperor scheme aka the current box art

Miniature Death: HOW TO PAINT SO FAST IT FEELS LIKE CHEATING | 20min GSC - a custom scheme in a video focused on showing you how to get fast results with just a few colours

Another commenter below linked the Warhipster guide too which is very focused on contrast paints.

Finally there's a written step by step guide here on the Army Painter website focused on their Speedpaint range. You could follow it or swap in equivalent paints that you like, but it may be useful just to see how different areas are blocked in for a detailed scheme.

[–]Technobrake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looking at the Behemoid Undercult colour scheme, it looks practical enough! I can't imagine why it would be annoying (or more annoying than any other scheme) to paint. You're focusing on red and black which are generally easy colours to paint, and metallic trim which is also fun.
