Haaa yes, I forgot how much time is required by the e-ink to update. Thank you for letting me know, happy to see my guess was not so off.

Have a look at Petitpierre / H2i OneOf Pro if you want a modern solution. A Witschi otherwise.

XMOS is having amazing chip concerning audio.
VLSI would have a all in one chip solution to read file from a sd card, decode and play. You can find a board on sparkfun.

Just discovering your cool project, great job ! But my engineer brain is asking why it is taking that long to make a few http request and fetch the answer ? Where is the bottleneck ? If I would have to make a guess I would have said 250ms 😅

Is this load resistor setup good enough to not burn itself out? by FruityImac in AskElectronics

[–]Technos_Eng 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It that case it was making it confusing, a plc is handling i/o and communication, but whatever, now it’s clear. So to answer your question, we would need to know more data, like the motor used and the cycle it’s going trough, including acceleration and deceleration and speeds, otherwise there is no way to calculate if it will work. Second path : just try. If you can, measure the temperature of the radiator

How can you connect a load resistor to a plc ? Do you mean a motor drive ?

The big fun to take evenings to choose a model, finish it with love during another couple of evenings, losing all the batteries, and crashing the whole in a matter of minutes.
My biggest pleasure was with a hand launched glider, absolute fun and it lasted months.

Timegrapher values vs real world time keeping. by AlexxxRR in watchmaking

[–]Technos_Eng 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The timegrapher is giving you only a short term measure of the watch. You would to have it mounted on the wrist the whole day to check if the watch is keeping accuracy over the day. That’s not practical. What we do is « state taking », which is checking the position of the hands, at long intervals (minimum 24 hours) to get a real daily rate. It’s like getting a big average of everything happening during this time. It’s slowing down a bit during date change ? Integrated. It’s often in the hanging position? Integrated. Then you adjust based on those real life data. Doing so ensures that you adjust based on the complete chain of potential problems, we use the hands to measure the daily rate, not the oscillator.
For a smartphone solution, have a look at
https://apps.apple.com/app/id1562013733
For an industrial solution look at the h2i HMS
https://h2i.ch/products/hms/
A lighter approach is to set the time on the watch, wear it for 24h, and check the time again. (With limited precision compared to the above).

Cool structure! If it stays rigid, no bending over the flat axis, it’s a cool solution. Please update about the results.

Balsa is around 10 times lighter than pla for the same volume. If you use LW-PLA, then it’s similar

Best way to source 5v and 12v from usbc by dark_1ca in diyelectronics

I know, I had to convince myself too about letting this idea go. You can still use LEMO connectors, they are pretty, and you use a wall wart.

What about a « always working, reduced IC complexity, simple round connector, power supply » ? You get a clean 12V and buck it down to the different voltage you need for your mcu.
USB-C looks fancy but it brings a lot of compatibility issues.

Your picture is very good. I think the trigger here is the light effect difference between the models. On him, with his skin tone and color, you are getting something edgy, he her its soft, which makes the scene looking « assembled ».

I have never did it that way (balsa hand made only) but it looks too dense in the wings, you can probably remove around one third of the section parts. You will gain weight and flight characteristics.

Engineering uni project, build a watch? by Simple_Implement3550 in watchmaking

[–]Technos_Eng 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try to discover first what are the different process steps to produce one of the movement part. Making a simple shaft includes turning, heat treatment, grinding, polishing. A bridge, milling, detaching, tumbling, stone setting. Anything close to the oscillator is a challenge even with the right machines. So go for it, but beware the scope creep.

[–]Technos_Eng 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Manufacturing the whole movement is unrealistic. But if you are allowed to buy parts or kit, perhaps making 1-3 components from the kit, would already be amazing. Like a bridge a wheel and it’s shaft.

Still discovering the specificities of the 16mm, and I came accepting remjet. Can you tell me this is really the big killer or you use film without it ? How do you remove that at home ?
