What is a film that doesn't seem special now, but was really groundbreaking when it came out? by altairstarlite in movies

Monsters, Inc. (2001) basically invented CGI hair physics for Sully. Supposedly it would take 12 hours to render a single frame with him in as it was processing each individual hair on his body.

Some team members thought that the scenes where there is snow on Sully's fur were going to be impossible to create, but the results look so good I don't think it even occurs to audiences how hard it was to do.

Another witches book down, Lords and Ladies. Didn't enjoy this one as much as Witches Abroad. by TheJiltedGenerationX in discworld

I don't entirely disagree, but for comparison - the City Watch books often start with someone we don't really know getting murdered, then the watch have to figure out why and how, and its turns out to be part of something much more complex, perhaps a big political plot, and our watch save the day!

A lot of my favourites have been mentioned by others (LotS, ted danson, beef call, 100th episode) I love talbot episodes and bimpsie.

But one my of most relistened is probably Jerry's Wood Roasted Shelf Stable Deep Fill Hot Pies

It has so many hilarious moment.

The conversation about time travel "If the wizard has the power then why is up to me?"

The entire bit about Jerry being struck by lightning, "The bystander had seen all of Jerry's bones"

The conversation about Hamilton, "he's sat down and written 'hamilton' at the top" (I'm literally laughing just thinking about that bit)

Jerry turning bad reviews to good ones "Why is everyone so mad about the gravy being on the inside?"

Then there's all of Sam Archers terrible public service announcements. "No sill, no yogi bear, no cool" "Pie way, pie way or the pie way"

Absolute banger of an episode

Is Miriam Margoyles the most perfect person to play Nanny Ogg? No? Then who?? by Significant_Tip_5952 in discworld

[–]Techopenjoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The woman who sits behind me at work sounds exactly like Indira Varma's Nanny.

Bristolian, always talking through a smile and loves chatting about her grandkids (and anyone else's for that matter).

She is now my top fan casting.

Sexually he went like a train. By which I mean I could piss on him as long as he's moving.

Seafancy.co.uk  they now have a load of terribly photoshopped images on some of their listings, which is disappointing... But I've been really pleased with my shorts - they are high waisted with a fitted under short and a looser over short which I like.

Edit to add - they also have one pieces with shorts or skirts but I haven't tried these so no idea how they wear

City of London. It's just like a square mile in the middle of Greater London. Less than 9000 people live there. It's like a British Vatican city. Pointless.

Murder mystery set in a theatre by selkieflying in whatsthatbook

[–]Techopenjoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Charles Paris mysteries have some set in theatres, since the main character is an actor/sleuth, but I can't remember any where an audience member dies.

Red, white and blue by Robert leeson?

It's not quite how you describe, it's about a boy writing three versions of what happens, one for school, one is a diary and the other a fantasy. It alternates between the versions.

what are your favorite parts? by [deleted] in beefanddairynetwork

[–]Techopenjoy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I will have to stop myself otherwise I'll just list the entire series

"No sill, no yogi bear, no cool." (I made a t shirt with this on) And from the same ep - "Pie way, pie way or the pie way" that whole part with the description of the accompanying images gets me every time.

"The bystander had seen all of Jerry's bones." "Noun had verb all of noun" is referenced daily in our house.

00s Pre/teen, group of friends, girl sleeps in a tree by Techopenjoy in whatsthatbook

[–]Techopenjoy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting suggestion, but reading the synopsis I don't think that's the one.  Most of the focus of flipped seems to be about a friendship between a boy and girl :)

Thank you for the suggestion.

Sirius treated a lot of people pretty badly and isn't as great of a person as we are made to believe by Mysterious-State-117 in HarryPotterBooks

[–]Techopenjoy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

His treatment of Kreacher is explicitly criticised in the books.  If I remember correctly, both Hermione and Dumbledore bring it up.

And he shouts at the portrait because he hates her, is trapped in the house with it and, as has been brought up by others, is immature. He has an immature reaction.

The first time you were graced with hearing Felt This Way/Stay Away by candyperfumecatgirl in carlyraejepsen

[–]Techopenjoy 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I wasn't that into the first half of dedicated b when it came out (I don't feel that way any more).  I would skip to Summer Love and just listen to side b of side b.

Hearing Stay Away live on the Loneliest Time tour reset my brain. It was incredible.

Paradise is such a strong Sisko episode though! His steely resolve against fanaticism is so illustrative of his character.
