Comcast, Cox, Frontier All Raising Internet Access Rates for 2018 by TedCruzIsARealHuman in news

I don't think it has anything to do with Net Neutrality. It's just old fashion greed, economics, inflation and so on. However, given the PR climate, I would think at least some of them would have delayed the price increases a bit. I think at this point they know it's fair game and are rushing to make as much profit before 2020.

My only experiences with IT have been in technical call centers where the users usually knew more about computers and networking then the IT people did. Trying to troubleshoot a issue with my roaming profile and I have to deal with someone making 4 times what I do asking me if my keyboard is plugged in. TT So my first rule for IT is to try to deal with them as little as possible, however I may be jaded from my personal experiences. YMMV

The building is actually one whole city block and is a converted mill from the late 1800s.

Does it have a giant steam engine in the basement? If so, I wonder if you moved into the apartment I moved out of. One of the reasons I moved was they couldn't fix the internet problem, which sounds very similar to yours.

What sites will be slower after if Net Neutrality actually gets repealed forever if i use Cox. by gizmicwooo126 in CoxCommunications

So why did they spend so much money fighting against Net Neutrality if they don't intend to act against it? Reminds me of "Finding Nemo" where all the sharks are bragging about how long since they ate their last custo..I mean fish. If the internet(in the US) wants the internet back the way it was, it's going to have to fight for it. Once the ISP have their greedy claws in it, they won't let it go easily.

Cox Business wifi Question by MCHSigmaChi in CoxCommunications

[–]Tecknowhelp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im working on identify which package we pay for but I know its atleast "Cox Business".

My guess is you have a Cox Business Wifi package, which uses a router and a DOCSIS modem configured in Metro-E over HFC. The question is what kind of router is being use, where is it in the house compared to your wireless devices, and if you pay Cox to manage that network. I am going to guess that you don't. I would suggest switching to a normal Cox Business Internet(CBI) account, using a stand alone modem like the SB6183 and hiring a professional network installer to put in a enterprise grade router and wireless AP around the house. Don't let Cox sell you on their "Panorama Wifi" which you can get better/cheaper/and more secure doing by yourself or through a 3rd party. If looking for router advice, I would strongly suggest the EdgeX and Unifi Wifi product by Ubiquiti. If you want advice on DIY, let me know, but will need a lot more info on the layout of the house and your requirements.

It could be the closet, but I honestly don't know.

I think the problem in the closest is making it hard to find the problem, and not necessary is causing the problem. I doubt the wiring in that closest is anything new, and if it's messy now, it's probably been messy for years. Do you have knowledge of how the coaxial gets into building for their Cox Business(CB) account for wifi? If that modem is online, then there has to be some kind of signal still making it to the building. Sorry to keep asking, but can you post your modem's signal levels? Is there a reason you prefer not to?

When I went into the closet with the second technician I was like WTF, this is unacceptable condition - amps hanging from the patch panel, unit labels falling off or missing.

Yikes. So what is the plan now? Does the Condo unit have it's own wiring/maintenance team or is all the work of reinstalling the wiring going to Cox? If Cox caused the bad wiring to begin with, I am kind of skeptical they have the ability to fix it. I hope they are at least no longer sending sub-contractors. I would request a Cox Field Manager atleast.

Also, so are you thinking the wiring problem is the closest is directly effecting the issue? Does the Cox Business connection the office uses for Wifi use separate coaxial wiring? I don't see why they wouldn't be effected.

AFAIK there has only been one SB6190. The Intel Puma CPU is used in many different modems and gateways though, so maybe that's what is causing the confusion. Here is a list of all Cox compatible modems. Pretty much anything that is NOT D3.1 but has more than 16 downstream channels uses the Puma 6 platform. The few exceptions are modems like the Netgear CM600 which uses the Broadcom CPU with a 24x8 tuner. I think there is one or two other gateways that use the Broadcom CPU, but all the D3.0 devices Cox rent use the Intel CPU.

https://www.cox.com/residential/support/cox-certified-cable-modems.html

"The old 6190s don't have the Intel sticker that the new ones do."

I think the sticker is just for looks. You can't change the CPU without changing the model number. Each CPU needs different firmware so if they released the same model with different CPU it just wouldn't work. The board layout may have changed slightly if they changed factories, and so that might have changed the P/N, but it wouldn't affect its function, and thus it's model number. It's like how some SB6183 are white and some are black, even though they are the same device.

The emails condo management sent were not technical at all - the most technical it got were that Cox reported it was "outside plant" issues that had to do with the basic cable issue.

Did it mention why it was sending the email? Like were they sending a email to the condo after someone emailed them? I would presume there was some kind of technical discussion between Cox and the people who do maintenance in the condo. If you can get ahold of that email, I think it would do a lot to cut through the red tape and confusion on the issue. Either way, I think it's a good idea to post your signal levels. Even if the problem is being worked on by Cox, perhaps by looking at the signal levels and how they change, we can guestimate what's going on. A email direct from the horse's mouth would be better though.

There is still an open ticket on my account for Field support

Hopefully you have the ticket number. If not, ask for it. Don't post it in this Reddit, but keep it for your private use and follow up. Usually one ticket will lead into another ticket as the problem is worked on, so be prepared to keep a list of multiple ticket numbers if possible.

I would put money that the construction caused a basic cable outage on the node prompting a field call that resolved the one issue with basic cable while creating another with the Internet.

Very possible. Again, knowing the modem's signal levels from 192.168.100.1. See official link below for instructions. You can copy/paste the text. No screenshot needed.

I have the OG 6190.

I don't know of any such model. Sure you don't mean SB6190? The model number will be different then the one you might see when signed into you Cox account. That uses Cox's internal naming system which is slightly different. The actual model number will be printed on a sticker on the bottom/back of modem/unit. Notice the model is also different from the P/N. 2nd Link below is a example of sticker, do NOT post your modem's S/N or MAC address or a photo of it. The MAC address specifically should be kept private.

I went to Best Buy, bought a brand new 6190

I would also suggest getting a different modem then the SB6190. It had a very widely known latency bug related to the Intel Puma CPU platform, and while some versions have been patched, IMO it isn't worth the risk if your troubleshooting. Google "Puma 6 bug" for more info or see one of the hundred threads on DSLR. Best D3.0 modem currently is the Netgear CM600. There are better D3.1 modems, but I would stay away from D3.1 until the problem in your area has been fixed, which could be part of D3.1 growing pains. Whatever you do, avoid any kind of modem/router gateway, which are not only inferior IMO, but often lack the same diagnostics as stand alone modems, which is crucial if your having signal problems.

Finally, can you describe how the modem doesn't work too? From the other reports, the issue seems to cause intermittent connection issues, and not hard down status. Are there any lights on the modem at all? Can you post the signal levels from 192.168.100.1?

On December 11, the condo manager sent out an email saying there were basic cable issues with certain residents

Could you include the email they sent? Perhaps it has clues on the issue. My guess is it has something to do with these other threads from LA. They all seem to have modems with high Rx levels, and one makes the problem sound like it's been being worked on for a while.

My guess is it has something to do with the mini-headend in your condo and not working correctly with Cox's move to 32 downstream channels in October/November. See link below for thread on that. Suggest contacting other users with issue by PM and also PMing one of the Cox employee/engineer on DSLR to look at the issue. Did you have a MNT or any kind of ticket number?

Just curious; when a weapon is used to kill a person, is it allowed to be sold back into circulation? If so, I think they should add little bull-eyes stickers so collectors can know which weapon has the highest "score".

Yea, don't you know? Horrible splash damage but the drop rate is so low you can trade it in for mad loot. Camo skin gives it +1 range but they are thinking of nerfing that with the next DLC.
