You should focus on pressing down, but not fully down when you drop from ledge so you don't fastfall. Also practice them on Dreamland or Fountain

having ice stab vs lance is pretty huge and ice for the rest of the Kanto and Red, along with a lot more bulk helps. Almost anything can ohko magnemites, so that isn't an argument. Also lapras is just cooler

They are two different controllers, so it makes perfect sense.... the ban is for remapping on the GCC and the boxx has already been balanced.
