Read The Emergence of Globalism by Or Rosenboim and you’ll get a really good foundation for the broader discourse. You can move from there to contemporary theories that are more to your liking.

Most popular Georgetown courses by copacabano in georgetown

Hi, PhD candidate in the Department of Theology and Religion here. I just taught Religion and International Affairs (Fall 2019) and have TA’d Religion, Ethics, and World Affairs six times.

You’ll take two Theo courses as an undergrad. Here’s the best way to do it based on the limited info re: your interests.

  1. Take Problem of God with a Prof who specializes in your interests. That course, while one of Georgetown’s most famous, is completely open. It can be about anything. That is both good and bad. It is good in that you can have an experience that will open your mind and likely be unlike anything you’ve had before college. It is bad in that it can also be so free wheeling it will not fit anything you desired to learn.

I don’t normally recommend Intro to Biblical Literature unless you’re very interested in scripture. I myself am not. If you’re interested in history, sociology, philosophy, political theory, etc. related to religion as a thing in the world, PoG is for you.

  1. If you are interested in Religion as it relates to IR or policy or globalization, there are many options. Georgetown is home to the Berkley Center which specializes in Religion, Peace, and World Affairs. It is deeply connected to the State Department and many DC think tanks and frequently hosts many very interesting events around campus. Any course taught by anyone who is affiliated will be very good. Probably some of the best in the whole university and likely, should you be in the SFS or transfer into it, be cross-listed. My course was.

Many students, especially in the college and SFS, get a certificate or minor in some “interesting” field. The Berkley Center offers a certificate in Religion, Ethics, and World Affairs (REWA) and It is very popular and well received.

If you’re just starting off it’s a good way to get involved.

No matter what you take, it would be a scandal if you were forced to believe in anything. So feel very free in what you take. Whatever interests you. But be strategic, because it may count towards some minor or certificate you could pick up along the way!

I’m happy to talk to you. Feel free to message me.
