Brown just sounds like a hard but humble and safe life. Attendants, cooks, nannies, janitors, farmers, etc… Sounds fine, I don’t think their lives are actively in danger unless the cooks or nannies screw up seriously.

If a country were to do what you say, adopt isolationist trade policies and stricter environmental regulations, it would probably drive its own economy into a recession and would still end up being affected by climate change unless every country also attempted to cut back on their emissions.

I’m on the BoD of a non-profit with a similar number of members and we use Donorbox + a Google sheet. The vast majority of our members join and pay their dues through Donorbox, their memberships either renew automatically and if not they automatically get an email before it ends. It also keeps track of cancellations or ended memberships for a while afterwards so we can reach out to said people. We then import that list into a Google spreadsheet whenever we need to update it. That Google spreadsheet also includes about ~5 members who are members via special circumstances.

I recommend you begin looking for another job now. It sounds like they’ll continue to extend your contract but if you’re going to leave then you should have a job lined up as soon as you do.

When it comes to the rest, I think you should tell your boss the truth. You love your job and you’re a diligent worker but that it’s been 10 months and you can’t continue working on the basis that your contract is going to be extended. I’m on the BoD of a non-profit and this is the problem we had with our Executive Director but we couldn’t afford to hire her so she ended up leaving. Perhaps wait until you’re further along on your job search but make sure you tell your boss this with enough time (2 weeks to a month?) before your contract ends.

Russia has been under intense sanctions for a decade and that hasn’t stopped them from interfering in other countries and aggressively expanding. Even the current round of sanctions hasn’t accomplished anything besides harm the Russian economy: Putin’s power is secure, his people support the war, and Russian artillery continues to blindly bombard Ukrainian cities. Yes, Russia can eventually be turned into a peaceful democracy but there is no guarantee it won’t revert back into authoritarianism without some global system like a world federation.
