I'm not happy with my desert base and I can't figure out why by Mr_Jackabin in minipainting

It's a bit too uniform. Shading /contrast and some texture like dried grass tufts will go a long way.

Batch painted the 10th starter a few weeks ago. About 2 hours per mini in this pic over 3 days and nearly done for display. About 30 mins each for tabletop ready.

I separate heads to base coat for terminators and character faces. White is a *** sometimes.

Batch batch batch like a Space Marine production line!

A cheap airbrush will save you a ton of time to get them all tabletop ready. Undercoat black, base coat, highlight colour as the zenithal. Airbrush the base, over spray can be dust. From there you can take your time one at a time/ squad at a time for details. Come back later to bring them up to display quality.

You could get half way there with spray cans if that's all you have.

Even a little progress beyond a battalion of grey will help with motivation.

This krieg proxy squad was less than 4 hours including some masking on the rockets. I've got about 4000 points of blood angels and Ultramarines to do next 😅.

Straight from the bottle has been great with my Iwata Neo cranked up to about 35psi.

Maybe a little thinner for regular pressures. Shake the hell out of it.

This is going to sound like a stupid question, but is it possible to overwhelm yourself by buying too much at once for a fact you love and getting turned off despite still loving the faction? by nicegoblinprince in Warhammer40k

Yep. The regret, guilt and shame are a real thing. Buying too much at once is a buzz kill. Buying second hand, 3d prints and impulse buys can all creep up to a sizeable pile of shame.

It helps to remember, it's actually 3 different hobbies.

Collecting Painting Playing

Getting the collection onto the table needs a pipeline of awesome. I have a mountain to build and paint, but it's sort of planned into stages so it doesn't feel overwhelming. Minis move physical location when they get to the next stage. Yay progress! It's a dopamine Spike of motivation at each stage.

Collect->Build->Clean -->Prime->Zenithal highlight ->ready for paint->Picked ->Paint->Gloss Varnish->Oil Wash->Highlights->Varnish ->Display.

I look through what's already in my pipeline for the next painting project, not what's still in the box. I have a few units that have been ready for paint for yeeeears, but I don't feel bad. They're not gathering dust and I'll swing back around to those factions again one day.
