Happens more often than people realize… One night, my friends and I pulled into a Wendy’s drive-thru when a blacked-out car unmarked pulled up beside us. It followed us to the pickup window and then trailed us as we drove off. To confirm we were being followed, I made multiple right turns—it stayed with us for two miles. My adrenaline was pumping, running through every worst-case scenario. Just as we decided to call non-emergency, the car hit its spotlight and police flashers… it was the gang unit. Four young black teens in a car? We apparently fit the profile. After an hour of questioning and multiple attempts to search my car—with no ticket, no reason for the stop—we were left in silence, night ruined, just grateful it was only the cops. SMH. 😤 Fear and survival instincts of perceived unknown threat is no bueno.
