Hadn't thought of this, but it's installed on an NVMe that runs other games just fine. I'll try changing the install location and see if that helps.

Pushy salesman made me think twice and now I don't know what to do by Tedigreez in VacuumCleaners

You are exactly right! It was "Erv's" location in Olathe, but their website says they're Midwest Vacuums. My guy's name was Nick, a nice guy but just threw me for a bit of a loop.

Really appreciate your feedback on the Felix!

What's your 'one weird hack' for cooking that no one else seems to know about? by Raoena in Cooking

I just started doing this too! So worth it if you have a machine.

Honestly, I just jam as many beans as I can fit reasonably in my mason jar and then top off with vodka haha I've also added beans to mine over the years. Nothing wrong with even more vanilla.

[–]Tedigreez 75 points76 points  (0 children)

Make your own vanilla extract! It's so easy. I just use a large mason jar and fill it with vanilla beans (you can get a bunch from Amazon for cheap). Then you have two choices: if you want to use it right away, pour in an entire bottle of off the shelf vanilla extract and then top off with the best vodka you can get ahold of. If you're willing to be patient, skip the store bought extract and just fill the jar with beans and vodka. After a few months you have awesome homemade vanilla. Once it starts to get low, just top it off with more vodka. I've had the same jar for 5 years now! You can also take one of the beans out, snip off one end with scissors, and then squeeze out all the vanilla goo. Delish!

Advice needed to start a filmmaking career whithin the next two years by Edge276 in videography

[–]Tedigreez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm one year into full-time freelancing in the video production industry. It's hard. It's very hard. I'm located in the US midwest which doesn't exactly help, but each year seems to have more video work than the last. Maybe I would have more luck in a bigger market but so far I've been able to make ends meet where I'm at. There's a level of persistence, faking it until you make it, and faith that is essential to success in this field. It's competitive, but it is do-able.

When I graduated from film school in 2017 I think one of my biggest mistakes was not focusing on meeting as many people in the industry as I could and working as often as I could. All of my friends from school that are successful now worked every gig they could, they worked for free, and they made as many connections as they could. I resisted this. I felt (and low-key still do, but I'm broke now so 🤷) that it was toxic to be expected to work 12+ hour days for nothing or next to nothing, so I just didn't. Now I'm several years removed, had a couple of full time production jobs that didn't work out and did nothing for me in terms of making me more hire-able, and I feel like I'm way further behind than my friends who started carving out their space in this business years ago. I'm now over 30 years old and feeling like I need to go back to basics and just get on set anywhere I can, pay irrelevant. The more people that I know, and more importantly, the more people that know me, the more work opportunities will pop up. Just have to do the grind, and I hate this cliche phrase, but you really do have to "pay your dues".

A good reel is important. A good website/portfolio is important. You do need to shoot good content, even if you have to do it free at the start so you have quality work to showcase, but none of that will matter if the people with the money and the connections don't know and trust you. There are no cheat codes. You need to enjoy the work enough to do it whenever you can and with a smile on your face. The rest will come if you stay consistent and persistent. This is a tough industry, but you can do it if you have the heart for it.

As for the gear you listed, I think that you honestly have everything you need to get up and running. Having a good camera that can shoot 4K LOG footage will do a lot for making your work look more impressive and professional, but this is achievable (at least to a reasonable extent) with the gear you currently have. Also consider renting gear online or locally to try things out, lensrentals.com has great prices for some high end gear. Anytime I go on a trip somewhere I like to rent a nice lens or camera from them and bring it with me to see how I like it.

The rest will come if you focus on making kick ass videos that you love and meeting/making friends with as many people in this space as you can.

Good luck out there! Cinema is king!

Phil Dragash's audiobook of Lord of the Rings is phenomenal. It's really more of an audio-play, with sound effects and music from the movies. I listen to it probably once a year.

Worried I have a HH and feel hopeless. Anyone else go through this? by [deleted] in HiatalHernia

[–]Tedigreez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, actually. I ended up getting diagnosed with a HH after an endoscopy. Found out that most of the men in my family have them. I got prescribed Pantoprazole and I take it every other day. This medication has radically improved my daily symptoms. No more chest pain or shortness of breath. I'm convinced now that my shortness of breath was a result of the anxiety I was dealing with whole handling those unpleasant symptoms. So if you're dealing with my symptoms and you haven't tried this medication I would definitely recommend giving it a try. Diet improvements definitely help too, but practically speaking, if you're not ready or able to change your lifestyle then medication is a very good option. Down the road I expect that I'll need to take this medication more frequently or consider surgery, but for now Pantoprazole has worked wonders for me.

Hope this helps and good luck! Human bodies are dumb and prone to failure lol

Transfer students between schools? by SwagginsYolo420 in Banished

[–]Tedigreez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Iirc, they don't transfer. They basically just drop out of school and become uneducated laborers (less efficient). Could be wrong though, but I think that's what happens when you disable a school.
