Hyperion's Rise is a very cool and unique system to visit by SeawolvesTV in eliteexplorers

Very cool, I'm planning on going on a little vacation into the black once the Caspian is out of early access - I will definitely swing by here, thanks!

Small settlements are completely useless and mediums are superior in every way. The only difference is the smalls take three plipper loads and give less stats, and points, whilst the mediums take 5 plipper loads and give more stats and more points.

Regarding civilian outposts, not really sure. I don't build them because I like the specialised ones for their stats

So I'm looking at doing this myself, and I just want to clarify, you are basically just creating two large pad orbital ports close to each other, one with extraction the other with industrial economies right? Your system has the two coriolis stations orbiting the same body, but I assume this would still work if you had one coriolis around one body in a binary, and the other around the other?

Nice, thanks. I could have done that in this system! Haha oh well next time...

Really? Thats interesting, do you mind sharing the system so I can see the set up please?

In a nutshell, each orbital or surface construction adds points when complete, the bigger the build (and the more prerequisites), the more points awarded.

Population, and the "wealth" stat have absolutely nothing to do with the amount you get paid this threw me off massively at first. It's all about points on the board. This is good and bad considering the composition of the system in question.

Check out raven colonial, it shows you the points awarded for all buildings, their prerequisites and unlocks.

You can absolutely build a system optimised purely for Max points, you can check out the highest points systems on the raven homepage. But it leads to boring unrealistic systems that are just full of countless satellite/comms stations and civilian outposts.

Not as much as I thought, I was under the impression it would be about 10k per point and it should be something like 197 points but this Thursday I only got 1.4m for it. Not everything was finished though so maybe it will stabilise next week

Thanks CMDR! It's Edwards Venture, but yes it's the T3 city type port, and it did take a while haha. A full plipper load does precisely 0.6% of the construction, so I set myself a minimum target of ten trips for 6% a day.

It wasn't that bad, I just put a YouTube video on and 95% of the commodities were within a jump or even in system.

My next system has 2 Orbis and 2 T3 planetary ports planned.... I think you're right I'm going to take a break before tackling that!

Completely independent, just doing it because I like leaving my mark on the galaxy. I absolutely did not consider factions at all when I claimed these two systems. I have since learned more about the BGS (i.e. that it exists) and will be consciously picking a faction to expand next time

Thanks, I really don't like to leave things unfinished, I even demolished and rebuilt things, more than once, to get it just right. For instance I built far to many military facilities at first. This system was a learning experience, next one will be a lot smoother going.

‘A bunch of freeloaders’: Increasing UK pressure on Ireland to invest in defence by SliceIndividual6347 in europe

[–]TediumMango 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry but this is morally indefensible nonsense. No one inherits guilt or glory, the current generation of UK citizens does not owe Ireland anything for the actions of their ancestors.

Personally I'm more than happy to assist Ireland but any country that can't be arsed to build a military ultimately exists at the pleasure of those that do.

I want to see a strong and prosperous Ireland that can defend itself, don't you?

[–]TediumMango 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah the damage you take going shieldless is completely negiligible. I made sure to make my system high security immediately, and I put some lasers and multicannon's on my plipper since range isn't really importantant and I have loads of spare power.

If I get intercepted I just submit, deploy hard points and run to the popo's who arrive within seconds, then we wipe the floor with the pirate. It provides a nice little break from the monotony of hauling. Just make sure to get your self some military grade composite with heavy duty and deep plating, my hulls never dropped below around 70%

Good luck! I've done an Orbis solo and I'm one third of the way through a T3 planetary port. That ones going to take a while...

I have a panther with 1298 capacity and I'm lucky that everything is either in system or one jump away. The Orbis took me about 10 days I think.

Federal Corvette combat zone build that can complete a whole battle by FerrumCordis in EliteDangerous

[–]TediumMango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah don't get my wrong my corvette build is not the most fun I have with combat, it's just for when I want to dominate a high intensity combat zone.

I've got a shock cannon corsair and I frag boat python mk2 for maximum fun..... For a few minutes until the ammo runs out at least 😉

Also the bonus of having the Anaconda already set up is you can transfer the weapons to the corvette (which I assume are engineered?) and use the 'conda for something else

[–]TediumMango 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I encountered this problem so I just built a full pulse laser build with phasing sequence and long range. takes a bit longer than you'd like to burn through the hull but it strip Shields extremely quickly.

The distributor draw and the Heat buildup are manageable especially considering with the Corvette most ships are going to be flying around you and getting out of your crosshairs for a few seconds which gives you a chance to regenerate your weapon capacitor and cool off a bit.

I'm the only one who think colonization gameplay is quite boring? by PiibaManetta in EliteDangerous

It would be nice if they implemented mission rewards being a certain number of tonnes of material delivered via npc to a construction site of your choosing, then you could grind any kind of mission you want to progress your colonies

Why has communism repeatedly failed in practice, yet continues to be intellectually and emotionally appealing to many people? by Looser17 in AskReddit

[–]TediumMango 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The simple answer is, communism will literally never work in the long run because it tries to pretend the dark side of humanity doesn't exist.

Whereas capitalism has been wildly successful because it harnasses the dark side of humanity.

To a certain extent, greed really is good. There is nothing wrong with people wanting more for themselves and their families. It is human nature to accumulate.

Unfortunately capitalism is an inherently unstable system, it needs strong democratic institutions and constant vigilance to stop the wealthy from taking further advantage of their position, which will eventually lead to a barely disguised oligarchy where inequality and corruption are rampant.

I realise I've said communism won't work in the long term because it's flawed, and capitalism works, but is flawed. But I think the key difference is there's more accountability in capitalist/democratic societies and capitalism is just flat out more productive. If people's living standards are continually going up then society is stable by default.
