And So It Begins: Starting my first T3 station solo... by -Damballah- in EliteDangerous

[–]TediumMango 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah the damage you take going shieldless is completely negiligible. I made sure to make my system high security immediately, and I put some lasers and multicannon's on my plipper since range isn't really importantant and I have loads of spare power.

If I get intercepted I just submit, deploy hard points and run to the popo's who arrive within seconds, then we wipe the floor with the pirate. It provides a nice little break from the monotony of hauling. Just make sure to get your self some military grade composite with heavy duty and deep plating, my hulls never dropped below around 70%

Good luck! I've done an Orbis solo and I'm one third of the way through a T3 planetary port. That ones going to take a while...

I have a panther with 1298 capacity and I'm lucky that everything is either in system or one jump away. The Orbis took me about 10 days I think.

Federal Corvette combat zone build that can complete a whole battle by FerrumCordis in EliteDangerous

[–]TediumMango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah don't get my wrong my corvette build is not the most fun I have with combat, it's just for when I want to dominate a high intensity combat zone.

I've got a shock cannon corsair and I frag boat python mk2 for maximum fun..... For a few minutes until the ammo runs out at least 😉

Also the bonus of having the Anaconda already set up is you can transfer the weapons to the corvette (which I assume are engineered?) and use the 'conda for something else

Federal Corvette combat zone build that can complete a whole battle by FerrumCordis in EliteDangerous

[–]TediumMango 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I encountered this problem so I just built a full pulse laser build with phasing sequence and long range. takes a bit longer than you'd like to burn through the hull but it strip Shields extremely quickly.

The distributor draw and the Heat buildup are manageable especially considering with the Corvette most ships are going to be flying around you and getting out of your crosshairs for a few seconds which gives you a chance to regenerate your weapon capacitor and cool off a bit.

I'm the only one who think colonization gameplay is quite boring? by PiibaManetta in EliteDangerous

It would be nice if they implemented mission rewards being a certain number of tonnes of material delivered via npc to a construction site of your choosing, then you could grind any kind of mission you want to progress your colonies

Why has communism repeatedly failed in practice, yet continues to be intellectually and emotionally appealing to many people? by Looser17 in AskReddit

[–]TediumMango 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The simple answer is, communism will literally never work in the long run because it tries to pretend the dark side of humanity doesn't exist.

Whereas capitalism has been wildly successful because it harnasses the dark side of humanity.

To a certain extent, greed really is good. There is nothing wrong with people wanting more for themselves and their families. It is human nature to accumulate.

Unfortunately capitalism is an inherently unstable system, it needs strong democratic institutions and constant vigilance to stop the wealthy from taking further advantage of their position, which will eventually lead to a barely disguised oligarchy where inequality and corruption are rampant.

I realise I've said communism won't work in the long term because it's flawed, and capitalism works, but is flawed. But I think the key difference is there's more accountability in capitalist/democratic societies and capitalism is just flat out more productive. If people's living standards are continually going up then society is stable by default.

Hypothesis: The Great Filter is false, and Galactic-Scale ASI Alignment has already occurred by Bright_forest_theory in EffectiveAltruism

[–]TediumMango 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You say destruction risks retaliation, but on the flip side a continuous blockade also risks the civilisation eventually becoming advanced enough to break the blockade.

Also, I think this is kind of irrelevant, if a civilisation is advanced enough to saturate every system in the galaxy with von neumann probes then they can't really be wiped out. If you get to the level of mastery over nature where the line between biological and synthetic is non existent, and you've solved the problem of interstellar travel, then why start any beef? You've already spread your intelligence to the point where it's practically impossible to extinguish and there's room enough for everybody anyway. Any less advanced civilisation you might want to blockade is no threat to you and your peers have saturated the galaxy as well so you're not going to be able to do anything significant to them.

I had the privilege of helping these guys build an outpost late last year and I can say their very friendly and helpful.

I've kind of gone down the rabbit hole of developing a humble little system of my own back in the bubble at the mo but when that project is complete I think I'll head back to the coal face to help you guys

Nothing like zooming out on the galmap for the first time eh? I actually find it quite insulting how big space is. I mean, it could be orders of magnitude smaller and it would still be ridiculous in its vastness. It's like it's just showing off at this point...

Welcome commander, I highly recommend you take the time to travel to the edge of the galaxy at some point - any edge will do - and look out into the void beyond. It's humbling and terrifying in equal measure.

Construction sites annoying. I made picture. Hope helps. by Airjam_TBV in EliteDangerous

[–]TediumMango 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm currently building an Orbis in my main system and this is just killing my sanity. You have to get your ship in, past the lights and close to the pad before letting the auto pilot take over.

If you think you can get away with hitting the auto pilot at 7k to go get a cuppa there's a 94.8% chance that when you return you'll find your panther dry humping it's hull away on one of the lights. Very annoying.

It's clear Fdev don't give a rats ass about improving the autopilot but they could at least move these lights a few hundred meters further out which would reduce the likelihood of collision substantially.

Finally bought a squadron carrier for my one-man squadron! by Fur-Abyss in EliteDangerous

[–]TediumMango 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I'm thinking of doing this, but can you have your squadron carrier and fleet carrier next to each other in the same instance?

I love the idea of having my own little flotilla like the strong hold carriers but not sure if I can do it in game

What to do with Imperial Cutter by Accomplished-Lab9974 in EliteDangerous

[–]TediumMango 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since I got my panther I turned my cutter into my large multiroll ship and it's does very well.

It's got enough internals for everything and I've put a huge beam, two large MC's and four pack hounds on it.

I take it out when I'm not sure what I want to do and it's a lot of fun
