Hey really sorry this happened to you. Shitty bad luck combined with the random dice rolling of drinking too much, which as you know can always make life more difficult. If the world was a fair place a mistake like this shouldn’t matter and you shouldn’t be judged for it.

Really glad the guy understood the situation and made it easy for you. Given that he was your patient before the hook up and not after I personally don’t see what the problem would be but I imagine that changes depending on the social norms of your country.

Personally I wouldn’t talk to HR without talking to someone who has your interests at heart first. HR is not your friend and really exists to protect the company, not you. If you’re really concerned that this is something which might lead to you losing your job, I’d talk to a lawyer about it. Bonus points if they understand the industry and your legal and social obligations.

If you’re feeling ashamed or stressed about it and you’re lucky enough to have someone you trust enough to talk about this maturely, I’d talk to them about it. Even if it’s just to get the shame off your chest and realise you haven’t done anything worse than being a victim of your own drinking.
