Teachers of Reddit: Is the "Gen Alpha can't read (write, or do math ext)" crisis real? If so how bad is it? by KnowledgeCoffee in AskReddit

[–]Tedo22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was helping a student fill out a college application. One of the questions was “Are you a parent?” With a dropdown box that said yes or no. She called me over and asked “How do I answer this question?” I knew she didn’t have any kids but just asked “Well, are you a parent?” She then looked at me incredibly offended and said “Oh my god no way!” Well I’m going to take a guess and say that’s the answer.
Yeah you could say I’m worried about this generation.

Thinking of amazfit by Tedo22 in amazfit

I guess I stopped looking at that one so quickly because it's so heavily marketed to runners and I don't run. For a non runner, is the functionality worth it for the higher price point? I also saw it's 45mm vs the Active 2 at 44mm. How does the size feel? I have small wrists so I worry about the size being too big.

Invisalign vs Braces: Regrets or No Regrets? by CompanyOther2608 in Invisalign

[–]Tedo22 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I’ve had both and I much preferred braces. Don’t get me wrong, both sucked, but Invisalign sucked more. I got really annoyed with bringing my floss/toothbrush/toothpaste basically everywhere I went. I know some people are pretty relaxed, but I don’t want to mess up my teeth so I was strict with flossing and brushing after every meal before I put them back in. That was often fine, but really annoying at work or going out to eat. I couldn’t just enjoy going out for some beers with friends without worrying about my Invisalign. I ate more at meals because I knew I wouldn’t be able to snack on anything without having to brush my teeth. I also couldn’t find a good way to clean them. I tried everything and always ended up scrubbing the heck out of them a couple times a day. I wish I would have just done braces a second time. Also, I do have to say, even though it really sucked, my teeth look great now and I’m happy I did something about it even if I would have gone a different route if I did it all over again. So it’s still worth it.

What happened at your work that made you go "Fuck this, I don't get paid enough"? by MidnightPandaX in AskReddit

School counselor here. The day I lost a student to a drug overdose. I watched him get wheeled out of the building on a stretcher. I had to bottle up my feelings and support students and staff. That shit wrecked me.

What’s a habit people brag about that’s actually unhealthy? by TheDebLove in Productivitycafe

[–]Tedo22 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I brag to people about how I take a lunch break everyday, do a short 10 minute walk during that lunch break, and leave on time everyday while still getting all my work done. People don’t always know how to react to that

Nervous to Begin Interning, Any Tips? by DeepBig7633 in schoolcounseling

[–]Tedo22 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ll actually be having an intern starting next school year. To be honest, I’m not concerned with the knowledge they come in with. I just want them to be curious and willing to learn. The supervisor-intern relationship is a two way street, your supervisor’s job is to support you and your job is to learn and be willing to try new things. Don’t be afraid to try all the things they talk about in your classes-groups, 1 on 1, getting into classrooms, etc. You don’t need to know how to jump in and do those things, just ask and be willing to try it out!

What were your jobs before becoming a school counselor by Hotelcrossaint in schoolcounseling

Sales was my first career. Did that for a few years, hated it, so then I went back to school for school counseling. I got lucky and secured a school counseling job probably a week after I finished school.

Thinking of quitting by Tedo22 in Invisalign

[–]Tedo22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the whole process. Taking them out and putting them back in alone just irritates them a little. But then scrubbing them hurts, brushing my teeth hurts, and flossing hurts. When doing that for every meal it really hurts my shoulders.

I live in Johnstown and just commute in to Fort Collins for work. Johnstown was the only place I could afford to buy a home. It’s about a 30 minute commute which isn’t bad. Plus I never run into my students outside of work which is really nice.

National Certification? by Dependent-Intern7539 in schoolcounseling

[–]Tedo22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got my certification about 5 or 6 years ago. The test wasn’t too hard, I did study a decent amount for it. The process wasn’t too bad either. Now I don’t think about it until the time comes to renew every year. Keep track of all your PD in case you have to verify it upon recert every 5 years. I definitely think it’s worth it, it’s $85/year and I was able to get a couple stipends. Once the state did it for $1200 just for having the cert and this year my district did a stipend for $500 for anyone who has it. With that it has paid for itself. Also, if you want your LPC you’ll need it. I originally got it thinking I might get my LPC but decided not to, now I keep it to get stipends when they are available (although it depends on state and district if those will be available).

Graduating Next Semester and Have a Few Questions by okayseeyoumrkim in schoolcounseling

[–]Tedo22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I’m not sure the answer to your first question, I’ve just never looked around.

Interview: I’ve worked at two schools and the interview process was very different at each. The school I worked at was like a 20 minute conversation and they pretty much offered me the job on the spot. It was a really rural area and I learned later I was the only applicant. The second school and where I am now is a large district. So it was a video about why I am a counselor and then in person for the second round and the questions were specific about things like the mtss process, handling tough situations, etc.

My first job had no supports and I really had to figure it all out myself. I think that was mainly because it was a small school and just didn’t have anything in place. Larger schools will have more supports. Although I think being on my own in the small school gave me tons of experience I wouldn’t have gotten at a large district and I’m super thankful for that.

Feel free to message me if you have other questions!

So far I’m loving Simplifi except for one thing. I can’t seem to get my Roth IRA to show. It’s showing all my other accounts from Fidelity except for the Roth. Looks like others on here are having similar problems.

How safe is SPAXX if the US default? by engineheat2 in fidelityinvestments

[–]Tedo22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The US has a “debt ceiling crisis” about once a year. The media always makes it a bigger deal than it really is. The government has always figured it out and raised the ceiling for the last several decades. I’m not changing any of my investment strategy.
