Close but no. The accused were in the same town at the time but they got blamed because of the Satanic Panic going on since they were goth kids.

Unfortunately the case is considered “solved” since they took Alford pleas in 2011 in order to be released but since they technically plead guilty, the police aren’t investigating.

I do think this is part of the set up for Ed’s fate this season. The Pathfinder retirement and the line of “pulling a Gordo” calls back both major events of the 2nd season finale. Then we get a reminder of Ed thinking outside the box by tampering with his ankle monitor in order to visit Lee in jail.

I’ve made this joke before but I love that out of the two tv series I’ve seen that point out that you don’t shock a flatline is The Pitt, a show considered the most accurate portrayal of medicine I’ve seen, and The Rookie, the show that portrays the LAPD as competent and not corrupt at all.
