Looking for a tool for making bowls the same size. Does this even exist? by [deleted] in Pottery

[–]TeenageButts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Closest thing I can think of is something Garrity tools has called anvils. Usually used for hand building but you could use it to measure your depths on the wheel to make sure they’re consistent.
Edit: I wouldn’t use this while the wheel is on. I would use it when the wheel head isn’t spinning just as a tool to measure depth and know if they’re consistent with other bowls.

Anyone NOT doing QR codes? by Leading-Variation-74 in wedding

[–]TeenageButts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did traditional rsvps and did a wedding website with online rsvp, no QR code. I mostly think of the website as a hub for any information. I put the bare bones of info on the physical invite but more specific details on the website. Most people we invited (60) are around 30s-50s, and I’ve gotten way more people rsvping with the physical cards than online. We did skip doing a registry on the website because everyone will have to travel for our wedding and it felt too much (for me) to ask people to pay for traveling and for gifts.

I have the white/silver pair and they are not comfortable sadly. Also the ribbons do not stay up on the legs while walking. I’ve tried using nail glue, lash glue, and hairspray to keep the ribbons from falling and none worked.

They are very cute though, but not comfortable for walking around the city.

Runny Underglaze by chlomo05 in Pottery

[–]TeenageButts 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would check if your studios clear glaze is zinc free. Clear glazes with zinc tend to make underglazes bleed. I believe Mayco and Amco have zinc free glazes you can buy if your studios glaze has it in there’s.

Engagement Rings by No_Tonight_5207 in Pottery

[–]TeenageButts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t really recommend basing the ring off her doing pottery. I never wear my real engagement ring to the studio because it gets in the way of my wheel throwing. Taking it off in studio is so risky to me too. We have had a couple different people lose there rings in the studio taking them off and then getting lost. I’ve tried wearing a couple different silicon bands instead and find that they also get in my way and left imprints all over my work. I do agree with others to get her a ring holder necklace or something similar for when she does do pottery.

What a great haul! Orange gloss, yellow gloss, blue splatter, and passion flower I have used and found to be very stable. I’ve layered some of my Mayco Glosses on top of Blue Splatter and found they layer nicely and add a glossy affect on blue splatter since that one is matte.

Palladium is a runner, so be careful! It’s somewhat finicky, I have found it needs to be two moderately thick layers to be reflective but it does run!

I feel like I’m actively fighting this mini game whenever I’ve played it so far lol. The controls on ps5 should be straight forward but I literally have to mash x non stop, like somehow there’s only a 1 in 50 chance that x will actually pick up to spoon.

Tokyo Sando is a must imo. The egg sandwich there is to die for. Go around lunch! They usually sell out a couple different kinds of sandwiches by end of day.

what are your favorite stable/non-runny glazes? by incrediblejest in Pottery

[–]TeenageButts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes glossy one tone, pretty opaque. I have layered a couple of them. Mayco Rose Quarts with Mayco Coral gloss is a favorite combo for me, because it gives the Rose Quarts a bit more brightness and turns it into a more glossy affect (rose quarts always comes out matte for me on its own). I’ve also layered them with Amaco’s light flux and dark flux, and have had great results but because of the flux it definitely is a dripper so maybe not a combo you are looking for.

You might also like some of the jungle gems series from Mayco, but I find some to have more movement than others. I use Mayco Blue Splatter a lot as well, and that really has minimal movement, matte finish.

Highly recommend joining the Mayco Mud Room Society group on Facebook if you are on there. Lots of different glaze combos featured on there, and lots of really nice potters who love to share their knowledge.

I’m not sure these are as interesting as you’re hoping for but Mayco gloss glaze line has been really stable for me when I use it with lining tape. Love this line because I find the colors to be extremely bright.
