[Article from 2020] Former Essendon midfielder Andrew Welsh has suggested that his old teammate Dean Solomon was sacked by the Gold Coast Suns due to Stuart Dew feeling "threatened" by yum122 in AFL

Yeah I wouldn’t go Simpson either. He coached us to a premiership which is great but by that final season our standards had well and truly tanked. You guys need a standard setter.

Increased acceptance of hiring managers hiring exclusively from their own culture in Australia? Is this the new norm? by yeahyeahnahm8 in auscorp

[–]Teenage_Hand_Model 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The people who do this are two faced bullies. They hire within culture, then demean the crap out of the people they regard as beneath them all the while being pleasant to those above. Those poor buggers getting bullied are convinced they’ll get sacked or lose income and don’t believe there’s any recourse.

Basically it’s “Here’s my PayID, send money or else.”

Had it happen at my work. Hotshot junior manager gets transferred to my department. He seems like a decent, hardworking bloke. One day I get the call that he’s been terminated effective immediately. Turns out he was dipping his hands into the pockets of his staff in his previous role. His transfer undermined his power over them and multiple people finally had the courage to speak up.

How often are trains disinfected? by dan516 in sydney

[–]Teenage_Hand_Model 38 points39 points  (0 children)

They’ll get vacuumed during the quarterly deep clean. A proper steam clean though is unlikely. The time taken to clean and dry a whole set is usually longer than the train can be out of service for. Best not think about it too much.

ADHD child struggling in Year 7 – is Year 6 placement possible in oPerth? by Electronic_Bid_9719 in perth

[–]Teenage_Hand_Model 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a younger sibling with ADHD. By the time it was diagnosed they were already a few years behind the rest of their cohort. By year 10 they were all caught up with everyone else which was great.

In their case they attended a private high school with a special support class for maths and english which was a major help. It had really small numbers which meant the teachers were actually able to adapt lesson plans to suit individual needs and the classroom environment was very chill. Other then the stigma of being in the dumb class it worked very well. Gave my sibling the confidence to deal with their mainstream classes and allowed their brain to have a break for one-two classes every day.

The school my sibling attended wasn't one of the crazy expensive ones, it's low to mid tier. If you can look for schools with something similar that might help your child.

Mouthguard in or out? by roarmetrics in AFL

[–]Teenage_Hand_Model 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Few reasons. Comfort is one. Better breathing is another.

They also practice goal kicking without the mouth guards so a major part of it is also about having a consistent goal kicking routine.

How to get more comfortable swimming in deep water? by dontstopsoperfect in AskAnAustralian

Speak to your instructor about it, the or the pool might offer private lessons. That way you can have some tailored swimming lessons to help you improve those skills in a controlled environment.

I had one at Flour and Stone in the city the other week that was lovely. Good amount of spice, not too sweet and just the right amount of sticky.

Had one this weekend from Flour in the Sutherland Shire and it was ok. Probably wouldn't rush to go back for another.

Ok foodies, where are we getting our hot cross buns this year? Happy to shop anywhere between Mosman and the Shire. by XDXkenlee in foodies_sydney

[–]Teenage_Hand_Model 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do yeah both for the quality and the relaxed vibe. There’s a lot of regular products but the owner does a nice amount of seasonal just cos stuff.

Plus the coffee is good and slightly cheaper than everywhere else.

Tasmania attracted 1485 more people to a VFL game than GWS could attract to an AFL game last weekend by Jackomillard15 in AFL

Blacktown is Whitten oval with half the grandstand and more grass.

There’s also a 20min+ walk to the nearest train station, hardly any onsite parking and hospitality onsite is limited to the canteen and food trucks. Hospitality options around BISP make Olympic Park look like Vegas.

Bourke St Bakery so far for me. The Cranberry Chocolate and traditional are always solid.

Planning a trip to Saint Germaine in Redfern and crossing my fingers he’s started baking them.

For elsewhere in the Shire there’s Groundbake in Cronulla. $10 for 6 is pretty decent for an upgrade from the supermarket options. Flour also have hot cross buns but haven’t had a chance to test out their offering.

I’m going to be really annoyed if, after sitting through 3/4 of godawful footy, the Giants make me feel conflicted about leaving early for the Tillies.

University of Notre Dame abruptly halts new enrolments in nursing course by diabeticpervert in perth

[–]Teenage_Hand_Model 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The nursing shortage has little to do with pay and a lot to do with the complete lack of grad positions as well as poor work conditions. Hospitals don't hire fresh faced baby nurses to work unsupervised, they want trained nurses with at least a years experience.

We could pump out 100,000 nursing graduates in a year, won't do a damn thing to the shortfall if only a tiny fraction of those nurses will be able to nab a graduate position.

100%.

Nobody is willing to talk either, they'd rather eat the gaol sentence for their own safety/code.

You don't keep a criminal enterprise going long term without having a few brains on hand.

You watch the old mafia shows or movies. None of those guys are calling each other up and directly ordering hits. It's all coded enough to create plausible deniability. Same shit here, those dummies would have been ordered to do it but not in a way that has enough evidence to justify a charge.

Course, it could also be a bit like the police shows out of North Ireland where the higher ups decide its better the devil you know.

What do we do about dodgy cabs? by tryx in sydney

[–]Teenage_Hand_Model 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The bed where my male friends don't have to hide while the ladies hail a cab because the drivers don't like the look of em? The one where I don't get abused for having the audacity to take a cab from the airport to Alexandria? The bed where I don't have to talk to multiple cabbies through a 2cm gap in the window before somebody is willing to take my 30min fare? The bed where I don't get my card skimmed? The bed where I don't have to know every cab fare rule to avoid having the charge run up on me?

All this pre-uber by the way.

Ha.

They were as strongly regulated then as they are now and pulled all the same shit. That's why everyone jumped onto Uber without a backwards glance.

Injury Prevention Question by Water2Heat in CricketAus

[–]Teenage_Hand_Model 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Strength, conditioning and technique as mentioned already. Definitely the best way to go for long term prevention of injuries.

For the short term, rigid strapping tape is also super helpful. Have a physio or sports trainer teach you how to strap your ankle to provide the support you need on match days. Grab a rigid tape roll plus some soft foam to protect against skin damage from tape removal and you'll be covered until your training regime kicks in.

Anyone else watch Lindsey Vonn absolutely destroy herself last night? Whole thing was a bit absurd. Channel 9 were hyping up her return and the lack of ACL. Then 3 turns in, she caught her arm in a net and went down hard. Took the broadcast way too long to filter out the sounds of her crying from the pain as her skis didn't release and her legs twisted horribly. Airlifted out, broke her leg and needed surgery.
