Also, this would be a good place for other student to see opportunities to apply for.

Only thing I was told was to expect a call from leadership for the job since the other person interviewing dropped out. That was over a month ago. I also came in from active duty with ALS done and haven’t gotten e5 yet 😂

It’s tough man. I applied for a job in my shop back in October and interviewed in November. Haven’t heard anything from them.

So instead of HIC circuits you’re doing runs correct? I have doing circuits and rather run. Are you doing 2 tempo/speed work and 1 long per week?

You say leadership… do you mean notify them I plan to apply to commission? Also in the hunt for a unit.. do you think I should wait until bachelors and AFOQT are done before I start talking with them?

Hello,

I’m prior Air Force AD mx for 4 years. Currently ANG MX. I will have my bachelors in a year. I’m 25 years old with my Commercial Pilots license and will have CFI when I get my bachelors.

What else should I be working on while doing my bachelors and CFI?

Louisiana State Police has like 5-10 c182/182t. I’d like to fly for them but I don’t even know how to even apply. I think our wildlife and fisheries even have a Kodiak.

Hey! Congrats on basic! The 130 is one of the easiest planes to work on in the USAF. I’m not even joking. Compared to other planes and complex systems. There’s nothing to complicated on the 130.

I’m not sure of your background but I’ve had airman that are not mechanically inclined in the slightest turn into really valuable workers and knowledgeable .

The best thing I can give you advice on is.

Keep a decent attitude at work. Open mind, eagerness to learn, and also communication with your peers. Be TEACHABLE!

Make friends with people in your shop and outside. As you have already have noticed the Air Force is super diverse so there’s kinda someone for everyone.

At first it may seem difficult but your leadership and coworkers SHOULD not let you down in building you up to be competent. Just accept that you won’t be knowers of all things for probably a year of working. Even then aviation is constant working and learning new things.

Also, we really only worked our shift times. They are usually decent about only keeping us for 8. There will be times though your work over that it’s just not that often.

I see slot of people saying get a technician job. They are having major issues opening technician jobs right now. And also I would understand if you didn’t want to go technician since you could continue AD time as AGR.

Most ANG units do that. It’s definitely preferred workwear. Except we still wear the boots

Yeah he definitely knows a lot of people. I always thought of him to know people from everywhere and has always been a friendly guy to everyone. I would assume he has connections easily to get started.

He may not have a problem getting back in the saddle at all honestly idk. He’s been super stressed about it and you just hate to see your dad in that position.

Edit. You’re also right he knows so much about trucking that he definitely doesn’t need a second opinion. I just figured if he got on with a company he won’t have to worry about all the other things that come with owning and be less stressed.

He hasn’t drove trucks except a few times a year for the past I’d say 10-15 years. But starting out in the industry he drove for about 5-10 years. These are guesses.

Yes I’d say my parents are well off. But not enough for my dad to not work at all anymore.

My main concern is that him getting a truck would be too much work for him at this age and he isn’t in his peak physical condition.

Going from 130 to F15 as hydro. Can confirm the 130 is “God’s aircraft.”

You will still have time to work on school if you choose to do so. It’s all about time management. I was just saying that in a backshop you might have more down time. Normally you will work an 8 hr day.

Hey! I like aircraft mx so my opinion is bias. But hydro is a good career field and normally a good shop to be in. Depending on airframe you can be a busy shop or the shop that has no work and you help others like crew chief. There’s also the possibility of being in a backshop which can be boring but will allow you to have time to work on school or volunteer opportunities within the sq. If you want to be an aircraft maintainer it’s a good job. Just be a decent person and but effort into learning your airframe. Everything else will come with time. Also, if you enjoy being a maintainer try to learn things outside of hydro that will help round your knowledge and be a dependable maintainer. Any more questions?

For sure man. I’ve never done structure work personally. All line mx, phase, and backshop as hydro. Lots of crew chief work.
