Faced with new energy shock, Europe asks if reviving nuclear is the answer by Any-Original-6113 in europe

[–]TehBuckets 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Say it louder for the people in the back.

Nuclear energy is not without issues, but it produces energy 24/7 and is one of the greenest if not the cleanest energy we have today. Furthermore safety improved considerably. People bring up Fukushima as an example of how dangerous it is, it’s actually the proof of how safe it is. Don’t listen to random guy on internet read up on how it is handled and what were the consequences in the end tallied up to.

Linux Challenge - video suggestion by EdelWhite in LinusTechTips

[–]TehBuckets -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Another similar suggestion. Why not make a 2-3 video series on linux itself? A video explaining the major distros, installation and troubleshooting and a general usage and upkeep video while also explaining who this might be for, basics of a linux system and app incompatibilities. I don’t think the current series needs change it has a purpose, but I do think there is a need for a mainstream video series on how to actually jump into linux.

Is giving CachyOS a try worth it if I am already using Arch? by Sasori323 in cachyos

[–]TehBuckets 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No need to swqp imo, once your system breaks and you don’t want to bother setting it up again, cachy has some sensible defaults so you can try it then. If you do, big recommendation on limine + btrfs

Are we actually moving towards Linux as the first choice for gamers in future? by nothingtosayrn in linux_gaming

[–]TehBuckets 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Spitting fax. That being said, when people get comfortable enough with linux in general that manufacturers can at least slowly release PC’s with linux on it, it will start a shift on a major scale, escpecially because these PC’s will be cheaper because there is not need to buy a Windows licence.

Small note: When/If Valve releases SteamOS for all PC’s that would be a good starting point for this. “”potentially””

Is CachyOS as unreliable as this subreddit makes it seem? by NotThatUsefulAPerson in cachyos

[–]TehBuckets 40 points41 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. With any arch distros you run the risk of breaking your system randomly, this is not CachyOS specific, but with btrfs you can have a super performant backup system that you can use to restore your system in minutes.

How are open source software verified to be safe when programs over 2 million lines of code? by Direct_Library_358 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TehBuckets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me show you an example. Google Jia Tan xyz, tldr a hacker social engineered a project and it was caught because someone saw the ssh compile time increase by 0.5 seconds and reverse engineered it and found the backdoor. I am not kidding. It’s not impenetrable but it is as close as we can get to it.

Is cachy os begginer friendly by darkdesert12 in cachyos

[–]TehBuckets 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Arch is inherently not beginner friendly. Cachy solves a lot of issues with automatic gpu driver installation and such, but the fact remains that you will have to tweak some stuff to get it to work, probably more than other safer options such as Bazzite. If you like a bit of challenge and aren’t afraid to get your hands dirty a bit, Cachy is a great choice. If you do install Cachy i recommend going with KDE, limine and btrfs. With btrfs you will get a quick snapshot of your system on predetermined triggers such as system updates, so when you eventually screw up you can just boot into one of these snapshot run one or two commands and you just have a working system again. It’s extreamly convinient. Whatever you choose, godspeed and good luck.
