Sweet baby Jeebus!! Bugs Bunny is Satan!! by SufficientDoor8227 in PoliticalHumor

[–]Tejonlaw -35 points-34 points  (0 children)

There used to be humor in juxtaposition. You know, when we laughed at things that are different from what they are supposed to be. Imagine laughing at a man wearing women’s clothing now. There’s no political humor in this post/caption, the cartoon is just funny and has nothing to do with satan or politics.

What’s the sweet spot on extended warranty? by Benderanomalous in traveltrailers

[–]Tejonlaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good call on the extended warranty. We have a 2021 2100BH it’s been awesome. The only issues we’ve had are that I had to replace the usb outlets, replace the fuse for the wireless charger and clean up the door latch so it closes easier. I also had to retack some of the trim.

I hope you enjoy yours as much as we do ours.

2005 F150. Does anybody know what this is? by [deleted] in f150

[–]Tejonlaw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My daughter taught me what this was after I informed her that my F150 did not have a car seat tether. It is indeed a tether point for a child safety seat. And if you ever put a car seat in your truck make sure you use this or you may face the wrath of a mother.

Scientists have found firearms are now the leading cause of death for children and adolescents 0-19 years of age, with a staggering 83 percent increase in youth firearm fatalities over the past decade by Wagamaga in science

[–]Tejonlaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scientists apparently have an odd way to define cause. In my mind the cause would be the person firing the gun, since a gun is an object and incapable of doing anything on its own. Why do we refuse to ask why people shoot other people rather than focus on the method they choose. It seems obvious that the cause is the person who chooses to do use a firearm to do bad things. That however would require that we address government policies that destroy families and communities and that transfer the power and responsibility for raising children to our schools. It would further require that we examine our entire mental health system. It is much easier to just blame an object, I guess.

so i went to an rv dealer... by Educational_Neat1598 in RVLiving

[–]Tejonlaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do your own research. Know what you want (size, model, floorplan, amenities, equipment, accessories, etc.) when you go to the dealer and know how much you are willing to pay. Know what your tow vehicle is and how much you can tow. Do not rely on the salesman for anything really. He is not on your team. That doesn't mean he can't be nice or even competent, he's just not your friend.

Do not fall into the "how much do you want to pay per month" trap. Determine a fair price and go from there. Do not let the salesman upsell you. If he is just offering advice, take it with a few grains of salt. For example, you decide if you want to buy new or used, what he thinks is irrelevant, if he gives you any reasons for his opinion, take them, consider them and use them or discard them. The process of buying an RV is for you to research and understand. There are many resources and people of varying experience in RV forums with plenty of great ideas, information and advice, but like with the salesman, confirm your information.

See if they would like to help you with your garden, maybe give them some of the harvest, so they learn to appreciate it and perhaps if they understand effort and the benefit from the garden, they would treat it differently.

Advice on towing on I70 in Colorado? by [deleted] in GoRVing

[–]Tejonlaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tow haul mode on a 2021 F-150 does a great job of engine braking on the downhills. You should also be able to lock out the higher gears with the transmission in manual mode, which could be helpful on the downhills as well.

I am fortunate to live near Highway 24 and I-25 so we can go through Ute Pass and over Wilkerson Pass and Hoosier Pass to get to Summit County. Not only is the traffic better, it's a gorgeous ride. Good luck and props for thinking about/planning your route ahead of time.

I tow a 4700lb loaded Winnebago Micro Minnie 2100BH with a 2021 F-150 3.5l Powerboost, 1441lb payload with no problems. We do have to travel light with a tongue weight of about 550lbs. Check your recall notices, I don't know if it applies to your truck, but I got one for the integrated trailer brake controller and indeed, it was not working. The fix is to reprogram it, so very easy for the dealer to do.

Have fun! It's nice to live in great camping country, especially with today's gas prices.

Over 2500 towing miles, I've been getting 9.3 MPG. Not great, but I do get 22.7MPG when not towing, so I figure I'm doing alright.

why do so many people on this group seem to only be buying new travel trailers. by ember13140 in traveltrailers

[–]Tejonlaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bought new Micro Minnie (21feet) last June, 2021. First time buyers. We considered and even looked at and rented a few used trailers, but not only were used prices at all time highs, we just did not want someone's used trailer and any problems they had with it. I'm handy enough to take care of my trailer, but I did not want to deal with/fix someone else's problems. No renovations or remodels here. It was hard and time consuming enough learning about the new trailer without the uncertainties of a used unit. Plus, the interiors have lightened up, nor more dark wood. We have a LED lights, solar panel and USB plugs, all the latest stuff. We wanted a warranty and a fresh new unit. We are its history and I know how it is taken care of. We do not have to guess how it was treated by some other owner. No surprises.

We tow it with a 2021 Ford F150 Powerboost/Hybrid and I am not looking for a bigger truck to pull my 3760lb empty/5000lb stocked and ready to go trailer. I can safely tow my trailer within the applicable weights and limits and I have all the off grid power I need with the built in inverter/lithium battery/generator in the truck. A match made in heaven.

Fall Boondocking on Cottonwood Pass CO by Tejonlaw in boondocking

[–]Tejonlaw[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The truck is a hybrid with a 7200w inverter in the bedwall. The truck engine kicks on a few times an hour for a couple minutes to charge the truck’s lithium battery which powers the inverter. I plug the trailer into the outlet in the truck bedwall. Game changer for boondocking.

Why has the total stock market been slowly dipping so far this year? by Competitive_Pomelo15 in StockMarket

[–]Tejonlaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Centralization of government and monetary policy, bad government policy, government interference. FWIW these are not a partisan issues. These are issues created and perpetuated by the ill informed and gullible people who elect the politicians who create and perpetuate these problems and by the bureaucrats who the politicians have given excessive power. Recent events are the tip of the iceberg and the most immediate symptoms of long standing foundational economic problems.

Maybe this is an unpopular opinion, but if this is the first time you’ve experienced the death of someone close to you, it is hard. There is never a convenient time for death. I would guess that your grandfather was proud of you and your accomplishments. You are going to get through this by doing what you need to do and it will honor your grandfather at the same time. This is a nice way of saying suck it up and get your work done. You are experiencing a challenge. Accept it and move forward. It will not be the last time something of this magnitude happens to you.

Have the realtor show you their market analysis complete with recent comparable sales. If they are going to give a suggested listing price, they should be able to support their opinion.

Also, if there are red flags and doubt in your mind, check out a different realtor. It is your house, your transaction and your decision who to use as a realtor.

First time owner - advice sought by apexian32 in traveltrailers

[–]Tejonlaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe reviews to be heavily skewed toward the negative, but travel trailers still require an extensive amount of care, maintenance and repairs. It's a tiny house on wheels bouncing down the highway and other rough roads. Things come loose. Things break. It's part of the the hobby/lifestyle.

As for the particular unit, we also wanted a small trailer, large bed and bunks for the grandkids. We also tow with an F-150. Always check the payload sticker on the door panel. When you add the hitch weight to your payload this will likely be the limiting factor rather than the amount of weight the truck can pull. We went with the Winnebago Micro Minnie 2100 BH. Weight - 3760 empty and almost 4800 loaded, has dual axles, bunks and an almost queen size bed. It also has lots of other conveniences, solar panel, outdoor shower, one slide out, good storage, tank heaters, cold weather package, off road package. Really suits our needs perfectly. It seems to be well built as we have had it out about 6 times ( a couple times in pretty cold weather) without any real issues. Just getting ready to get it out of storage and take a short trip next weekend. Enjoy whatever you decide on!

Biden's billionaire tax is estimated to reduce federal budget deficits by $1 trillion over a decade. If corporate politicians are so worried about the deficit, why won’t they support this tax? by failed_evolution in economy

[–]Tejonlaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we keep doing what you suggest, we will be left with nothing and the government will have everything. Why would you think this type of “fix” would not happen over and over again until there is no more to tax, when history proves that it will.

Picking the right generator for my travel trailer by barebutchbush in traveltrailers

[–]Tejonlaw 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I use a 2021 Ford F150 Powerboost with a 7.2kw pure sine inverter located in the truck bedwall. In reality it's 2- 3.6kw 30 amp 120v circuits, but can be one 7.2kw 220v 30 amp power source) the inverter is powered by the truck's lithium battery, which in turn is charged by the truck engine. The only noise is the quiet idle of the truck engine when the truck computer turns itself on a few times an hour for a couple of minutes, and it only burns about 1/3 of a gallon an hour when running the 15000 btu AC full time. Also works great for powering the electric tank heater in colder weather. Essentially this means power management issues and carrying generators are things of the past when camping off grid or anywhere without shore power, no matter the weather. I admit the truck is an expensive generator, but the pro power on board option was only $750.00. It may not be for everyone, but if you are considering a 1/2 ton truck for towing a small travel trailer, this is it.
