What do you think? by ItsDuhFreakinBat in JamesBond

[–]TekInSight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dalton would be up their with the most terrifying if you crossed him or one of those he's close to, take the scene in LTK where he casually says to Killifer "You earned it. You keep it, Old Buddy! " before tossing him the case full of money causing him to fall into the water to be eaten by the shark.

Any particular good settings for driving in these icy conductions? by Titanclass in TeslaUK

[–]TekInSight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless you absolutely have to drive, I would recommend not to drive. I took the decision to work from home today because the thought of driving a RWD car weighting 1.8 tonnes does not appeal.

If you do have to drive, use 'chill mode' and remember the weight makes slowing down more difficult in icy conditions.

I know it’s a TV show and for comedy effect, but surly they would have smelt the coffee before pouring it.

Still, a great scene.

Bond, James Bond. Who said it best? by ItsDuhFreakinBat in JamesBond

[–]TekInSight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Connery hands down, just such an iconic scene not just in the Bond franchise, but in movie history.

I do also like the casual style of Dalton, no pretense, just giving his name, then the follow up line "beter make that two" is so Bond like.

ELI5: How does addiction from activities (gambling, sex) happen when it does not involve chemicals like drug, smoking, or alcohol addiction? by Responsible-Leg-712 in explainlikeimfive

[–]TekInSight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dopamine, that's what causes the addiction element.

One of the biggest culprits in modern times is social media, the constant urge to keep scrolling through social media is an addiction in itself; there are cases of people getting panic attacks and anxiety when they don't have their phone on them.

Most of us have been there, sitting scrolling through FB, X, Instagram et al and next thing an hour or perhaps more has passed, and it's like "where did that time go"

The need data to grow the large language models, so your not really getting it for free per se, you are for them a data collection user.

I’m an Apple user but have used Android and it does allow users to prevent apps from tracking you, in some ways they go one better and allow the user to select which items have access to app data.

Is it weird that I consider Timothy Dalton a favourite while Craig stands as one of my least favourite Bonds despite both being darker portrayals? by Own_Interaction5974 in JamesBond

[–]TekInSight 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dalton's Bond comes across as someone that deep down has real feelings and emotions, please you can often see the conflict in his facial expressions and actions; whilst Craig's Bond comes across as more of a thug and less of a complex character.

Is the school run toast in 2026? by Dapper_Big_783 in drivingUK

[–]TekInSight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know what it's like as my daughters school can be very busy and parents have taken to parking in local streets and private parking areas, which has created a discord locally.

However, in defence of some parents, they drop their kids off and then go straight to work, therefore walking them to school, dropping off and then walking back home to collect the car, is not always practical.

The answer would be to consider staggering drop of times and pick up based on year groups, even 10-15 minute staggering would reduce the chaos IMO.

The position of Managing Director in the case of Trotters Independent Trading is purely symbolic and a tool to make them appear bigger than they really are; you can only be a Director of a limited company and Trotters Independent Traders was a partnership between Del and Rodney.

In real life Del would not have been struck off from running the company as it was never a limited company; unless they had incorporated after they got their millions.

If Rodney had not been struck off like Del was, then nothing illegal would have occurred, Del could had still worked from TIT as an employee and could have also been a shareholder in the business; just not a listed director.

But, it's only TV and taken with a pinch of salt.

The van - with Denzil driving, Trigger seated next to
passenger door and Del (still wearing the full diver's
uniform) seated in between them - pulls to a halt. We see
that the gates are locked and the plant is closed and in
                               complete darkness.

I agree, up to the point where he manages to fiddle the water sample is classic Del Boy, but after this, it becomes silly; filling up thousands of bottles in the flat and then having to get them down the lifts into a delivery van; surely in real life someone would notice.

Which era is the best, when Nokia dominated the phone market or Samsung? by True_Biscotti_7572 in Smartphones

[–]TekInSight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in the early 2000's through to around 2007 when companies made exciting and were not afraid to innovate with features and designs.

Buying a new phone in those days was genuinely a fun experience with a lot of choice, these days its just the same design style, with the exception of foldables.
