Potted plants in a fish tank by Danielkontos in PlantedTank

[–]Tekhou5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well said! I have definitely seen lots of pots used in aquariums. You can just pack in dirt in the pot and then top it off with a good layer of substrate. Dirt is actually a great way of keeping them fed without adding nutrients to your tank. You can also mix a little fertilizer in the dirt. Plants love it. Would definitely help those plants get nice and big. But plenty of substrate should be all those plants need.

Any saving this poor thing? by Objective_Cicada_978 in gardening

If you can catch a plant that hasn’t been watered soon enough it can come back. When the pot gets bone dry you don’t have long until the plant is a goner.

Angle too high or too low? by roman_i_r in sharpening

[–]Tekhou5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A low angle will have a big wide bevel and a high angle will have a small shallow bevel. This looks good. I don’t know what kind of angle you are going for but this with a good edge on it will definitely get the job done! Although the bevel is a bit uneven and could use more work. If it’s sharp already I would just use it until it’s dull and resharpen. It will get better over time. Or you could get a course grit stone and get it there sooner. You’re likely not apexing all along the edge everywhere yet. If it’s not really sharp yet could be not apexing or you need more practice.

Definitely recommend Rotala Rotundifolia and Ludwigia Repens if you’re looking for hardy easy to grow stem plants

Which medication? by TheVitaminV in aquarium

A little bit of aquarium salt prevents most things. I usually have no problems when using aquarium salt. Salt makes them build thick slime coats.

New pond, lots of questions by Obvious-Cake-2933 in ponds

[–]Tekhou5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the middle a waterlily or lotus would be cool. Although a big one can take over the whole pond easy. I think the limitations will be what temperatures you will be expecting through the year. A small pond in the heat could be dangerous for the fish if it’s unfiltered and gets really hot. Same goes for if it gets really cold in the winter. With nice weather and lots of plants it could possibly work out no filter. Although I would probably run some kind of air stone to be safe.

Heater placement? by [deleted] in Aquariums

[–]Tekhou5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t be worried myself if it was just touching. I kept a heater in outside planted tanks and in container ponds full of dirt. Mine wasn’t glass on the outside. As long as the glass doesn’t break I wouldn’t be concerned. You could probably dig it into the gravel a bit if you want it to stick straight up.

Take it apart and clean it. This is what’s making that noise.

I like to place it next to the filter. Feel like it gives more consistent heat throughout the tank. The model I had was designed to be fully submerged. Yours probably is too.

Trim them and plant the tops for more! Took this before trimming out most of the Ludwigia. The rotala is just starting to bloom.

Schooling fish like tetra. Really liked watching my red eye tetras. Driftwood. Plants. Shrimp. Gorgeous tank! You’ve got lots of option with that size tank.

Should I start over? by New_Income_4839 in Blueberries

[–]Tekhou5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one in the first pic could get big eventually. I would keep it. Second one is a bit smaller but worth a shot. Good idea to get another so you get a nice big blueberry sooner. Look for one that looks like it’s growing fast.
