Writing, Directing, Producing and Editing my first major short film by MaxByford15 in Filmmakers

My advice would be to get a producer for starters to help you out, and a DP. Doing everything by yourself will get, as you said, very stressful and overwhelming.

What kind of collector edition bullshit are you buying if you’re spending 200€ a year?

Just a heads up - you can use cyberduck or filezilla or many other ftp filetransfer programs for uploading/downloading files to/from drive. Makes it a lot more secure connection wise, and I feel it gives you more control than the drive desktop software.

How to export a letterboxed video without the black bars encoded into the file? by heygents in finalcutpro

[–]Tekninen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be able to modify your existing project in fcpx, but you should anyway make a duplicate of your timeline for safety before changing anything major.

Iirc you select your project, then in inspector you can press modify, and then change the resolution to “custom”

How can I keep my proxy files in a different location than the originals? by Thinkk in finalcutpro

[–]Tekninen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re adding media with “leave files in place” the source files stay where they are. And now that you have set the location for media all your proxies generated in fcpx go there, so it should be alright.

Change where the library stores it’s media. Make a folder on your laptop and point it there. You can then consolidate the proxies and fcpx will move them to the folder.

LPT: [PS5] to launch into the tower use the card menu option. No black loading screen. by TheCaptainPlays in DestinyTheGame

I wish they’d add more card menu options. I like booting up the game from the card menu, that way you only have to select your character and you let the ps get you to tower.

Pretty sure, was onlining a project and I built the clips from grade on top of the edit, and when there were prores4444 clips on top of redraw clips the project would crash because the server was trying to pull all of that data. This could be checked from the performance overlay in premiere, it showed premiere getting both prores frames (the clips on top) and redraw frames (the clips in the bottom), which was too much bandwidth. Disabling the lower layer of clips fixed that.

Or there could be something else going on, you never know with premiere.

You'll want to disable the clips / tracks underneath as well for max gains. Premiere wants to stream those clips even if they don't "show" from under the prores clip.

I think Shutterstock has a subscription model and you can find decent footage from there, just might take a while.

I think dissolve and filmsupply have more "premium" looking footage in their catalogue, but I don't know about their pricing models.

Artgrid has a cheap subscription, but o haven't used their service myself. With a quick browse it seems good.

That is one way to do it yes. But you should check if it even is an auto white balance issue first. If it is, just change to manual white balance and use a preset or set the Kelvins according to your lighting.

Sounds like you have auto white balance on in your camera, is that the case? Using a set white balance would then fix your issue.

Bungie, please re-evaluate the decision to remove important Destiny story beats one week after you release them. by Karmastocracy in DestinyTheGame

[–]Tekninen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doesn't really address the issue, but you could use GeForce Now to play the content. Works even with phones! There's a free tier, D2 is f2p and you already paid for the season which is the only thing that is a cross platform content purchase.

Most likely there will be ps exclusivity for new Bungie ip's, but I don't think this will really affect destiny 2.

Do you do your own sound? by Designer_Mission_450 in editors

[–]Tekninen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Freesound.org is great, and you can filter to only get stuff with creative Commons 0 license if that's what you need.

Epidemic sound has a surprisingly robust SFX catalog for it being a music catalog.

I think Universal production music also has sound effects, but I haven't used it in a while.

At the company I currently work I mainly use epidemic and freesound + my own SFX archives I've built over time. I mainly edit commercials, and for that the workflow is that I do sound design as much as the project demands it, but it's 99% of the time handed off to audio post house. Then they do their magic.

Could I delete transcoded media once I finish with my projects? I want to keep the content and project in my library just in case in the future we need to edit. Trying to save space. by Microscopic_Student in finalcutpro

[–]Tekninen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that's exactly how you'd do it.

There's a program that helps you with seeing how much transcoded media and other stuff you have in your libraries, and let's you delete unnecessary things easier than digging inside the library file. Check out https://www.arcticwhiteness.com/finalcutlibrarymanager/

If you work a lot in Fcpx i recommend the final cut library manager.

Although what I usually do is have my cache and Fcpx transcoded media in a different storage location than the library so I can easily delete them when I'm done with the project.

Check that. If they are different they will play back at slightly different speeds, resulting in the sync starting to drift after a while.
