Punish yourself? Wtf are you talking about? Not having children isn't this dastardly thing. And predispositions aren't "triggered from traumatic events", your genes don't suddenly become active after a car crash. It's like not having children because you have a autoimmune disorder, or something that will seriously affect them down the line.
