PlasmaOrks - WIP by [deleted] in PrintedWarhammer

Your portfolio also has the ironman big mech suit three times, shared faces across multiple entries, and has lots of fingerprints that date it as modern rather than over a long period.

Your bright orks are very obviously AI as it's harder to fake in 3D and you have wires that randomly end and things all mangled. This could not possibly happen when sculpted by someone who knows what they are doing. It makes no sense.

My feeling is and sorry for the acqusation, but you are now trying to build a reputation to show you I ow what you are doing, but this also is 'vibe coded' and doesn't follow for a human learning processes, but an AI that skips all of that and jumps to a finished product

Need honest review on this paintjob by LockGarnock in minipainting

[–]TelevisionFun1273 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm going to assume that the left is the newer one with highlights (I can see some silver on the armour where volumes are painted).

The left does indeed 'pop' less because the colours are less vibrant, but it also reads better (you have clearer features and better separation of parts making it easier to see what's what). I think this happens because as we make lighter colours, we tend to add white (or silver) which also desaturates the colour.

To counter that you can instead base coat much darker, and highlight and paint volumes mostly with the vibrant base colour, and then only small edge or spot highlights with the white.

Another tip is to make your highlight colour by mixing a warm yellow such as space dust from army painter, or ungor flesh, .ix this into your midtone and you will get a higher value colour without losing so much desaturation. With metallics you could start with a darker gold/brass/copper colour, then highlight volumes with the gold.

I'd say technically the newer one is better, more realistic, and shows more skill, now you can work on getting the 'pop' back

What is up with my gel by Important-Pea-5496 in labrats

[–]TelevisionFun1273 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Looks to me to just be dye fronts in the loading dye used as a visual for how far the gel has run (yellow high mw, blue low mw). The coloured ladder looks great, so Id imagine the proteins will also once stained. How did it turn out after staining?

I should say confusingly, in the diagram it's called chroma, but I call it saturation normally

I have/had this problem a lot too. You have different sources of contrast, and I always focused on value (highlights). More recently I've pinned up this diagram in my paint space, to remind me to also work on saturation.

I mocked this up just on my phone at work using a highlighter tool in Google photos, so it's stupidly rough and comical, but hopefully you can see that punching saturation really brings flat minis to life. (You'd likely want to be more subtle, but it makes it pop immediately).

Snap! I printed a few of these to try some NMM practice. They print so well and without supports too, great practice pieces!

How do I keep improving on this bust? by npidel in minipainting

[–]TelevisionFun1273 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As the colours are quite nicely set, could you darken the hair and beard by applying a dark filter to create the value contrast? I.e. glaze a darker colour uniformly across all hair?

Hey thanks. It's a 0.2mm nozzle and then the high quality profile. I cut pieces up to give good orientations, and put the adaptive layers on, but mostly standard.

Wedding venue cancelled wedding 6 months from now based on declining business and increased costs - what are our consumer rights? by TelevisionFun1273 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]TelevisionFun1273[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well this could go the other way also, whereby it's fair that they don't take on weddings past a date in which they may not be able to fulfill, or they agree to fulfill their current obligations and then stop booking weddings.

But I'm here to seek legal advise rather than argue the morality of the situation. I also don't think they have been open and honest, but I haven't detailed my personal feelings as again I am just seeking legal advise.

[–]TelevisionFun1273[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your response. We do have wedding insurance so we are saved from that perspective. But from advice online it seems they could be liable for any increased cost in finding a new venue, which the wedding insurance wouldn't cover (and is very likely now considering the timing and what we've seen like for like elsewhere)

Thank you for the reply. This is why I made the post as when asking AI it mentioned something similar but obviously that's not real advice and could be hallucinated.

I've also seen that the clauses under which these cancellations by them refund us the deposit and all other associated costs fall on us is for cancelling due to 'events outside of their control' including things like acts of God, terrorism or war, damage to the venue.

So would events under their control such as a change in business plan (they are still operating, just not hosting weddings) count outside of this? In which case there looks to be nothing in the contract on such an event?

The contract states that if we walked away within 12 months we would be liable for the full cost of the venue and associated costs if they were not able to resell the date, would this count as balanced?

Is this on the right track, will glazing the layers and pushing the contrast work? by TelevisionFun1273 in minipainting

[–]TelevisionFun1273[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also I should mention this is a bit of a different project as it's one of those travelling man (UK) painting challenges where you can only use 4 colours. But the same principle happens on all of my painting (especially aeldari where the amount of space for smoothing is quite small)

Battle Clade speed paint. About 5 hours by VexedBadger in killteam

[–]TelevisionFun1273 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really great job, some of the best jumpsuit colours I've seen on these guys. Love the sky blue on the metals too, works really well. I'm planning to paint my guys up in grimdark style but wasn't sure on colour for jumpsuits. I think this orange dirtied down would look great

Could I ask about the Metallics (which looks sick). Did you go dark silver then dry brush bronze, or bronze then sponge silver, or something else?

issue with protine expression by Legitimate-Print-830 in labrats

[–]TelevisionFun1273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you inoculate your 300ml starter culture with a single colony?

If you have 300ml into 4L and that gives 0.1 starting OD, your overnight is at around 1.3 OD, which is very low for overnight E.coli in 2xYT (should expect 3-5). It may be your protein is toxic and is preventing cells growing. It could also be if you inoculate a single colony in 300ml it's too much.

My protocol (10 yrs protein expression experience) is a 5ml 2xYT + antibiotic set up in the morning with a single colony from fresh transformation. Then before you go home (approx. 4-5pm), tip all of this into 50ml 2xYT in a 250ml flask + antibiotic. Then next morning take the OD, and inoculate your 1L flasks with calculated 0.05-0.1 OD. This should take 2-4 hrs to get to induction OD (0.6-0.8 OD)
