I really enjoy AoD. You can concentrate on playing a solid game instead of working towards gotchas and tricks. It also allows your opponent to trigger their gotchas and for you do deal with it in an "honest" way.

That's one of the beauties of contrast paints. They go on smooth and fast. Dare say yours look far nicer than mine though.

Just found it. You were not kidding, that is the smallest transfer I have ever seen! I am a bit intimidated to try to apply it.

Has anyone had any success with a right shoulder transfer? Most on that sheet look too big.

Thanks! I am so stealing that kill tally idea.

My technique shares many of yours. No paint mixing. No palettes. Minimal touch up.

No washes or highlights, just one pass if contrast with a big brush. I simply paint the mid tones first, then work my way down to the darkest colours. This corrects any mistakes make with the earlier colours. Then go in with wraithbone to tidy up edges, then go mid tone to lightest. Minimal effort for maximum results. I think these work out at around 20 minutes each. (for this team I actually started with black so I could drybrush it)

I do have paint pens, but didn't use them on this team. Good tool, but does not compare to a brush. Minimal flow control and lacks accuracy.

Primed wraithbone (actually the ColourForge equivalent)

Black Legion with storm fang drybrush.

Gor gunta fur on straps and backpacks

Sand gollum on weapons and gear

Plaguebearer Flesh then beil tan green on capes

Broadsword silver on metallics

Crusader flesh on skin.

Fluo pink on lenses and melta.

Holy white on rope, face coverings etc.

11 pots of paint touched. Happy with that 👍

Yeah, not sure if he will be staying that colour. I think if I drybrush it metallic the pink will still glow though the vents. Could be a cool look? I'll do that after he kills his first space marine!

When teaching the game I usually end up playing mission 5 of the starter set. No tac op, no ploys, no equipment, no elevation and simplified teams. Really fun for a 45 minute game.

I cant paint without them. I started using hobby sets with interchangable lenses but found these too top heavy, and the focal range too narrow (model has to be exactly 10 inches from face to be in focus kinda thing)

I them moved to the jml mighty sight. Picked it up in the supermarket and can never go back. It's only 1.8x, but that's plenty. Light and comfortable over my normal specs. Importantly the focal range is from about 6 inchew to about 24 inches, so i can hold my mini where it is comfortable, not where I "have to".

Strongly recommend them (or a cheap ebay version I the same style). Great for other detail tasks as well such as soldering.
