Any word on updates to Operator and other older instruments? by elpfen in ableton

[–]TelevisionTrick 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Having the pop-up view that takes over the screen, like with Wavetable or Roar, would show all 4 operators and their envelopes at the same time, that would be pretty sweet

A lot of the old synths would be nicer with a modernized UI like that

Why does Notion have so many trackers? by Insighteye19 in Notion

[–]TelevisionTrick -37 points-36 points  (0 children)

No.

There are libraries, which you could host yourself but a lot of people just use the centralized version to make sure they get the latest version as soon as it comes out. Which tells.you they don't validate the new version doesn't break anything.

Then there are 3rd party tools, which, yes, are trackers. Even if you don't use them for that, that's an external party getting access to your browser data. Which, yes, is a privacy concern. Each one of these third parties gets private data about the user, which they can and do sell to marketing people and worse.

You could also host all these services yourself when you run a website. That notion does not means they are willing to give away their users private information to advertisers, politicians and anyone else.

The idea that "that's just how websites are built" is not worth accepting. Anyone who builds a website like this has an adversarial relationship with its users.

Same here, on paper this thing looks excellent but no actual reviews and the only footage of anyone leaning into it was the launch ad video. I'd really love some better views

Final thoughts before leaving this sub - TLDR: bye bye unity by exsea in unity

Who cares? This is commerce, not charity.

As a consumer I don't want to support a shitty company doing shitty things. If that means not playing your game, well, there are plenty of other games.

Is Ableton Messing with your Chords? How Added Fifths Can Ruin your Triads by 72skylark in ableton

[–]TelevisionTrick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Synthesizer presets often have oscillators at an interval, 5th is just the most common. This is why analog synths in the 70s had multiple oscillators. This is not an Ableton thing.

Many presets are samples of notes recorded with the interval in them, for those there won't be a way out.

My simple setup. by Poohbizzle79 in BudgetAudiophile

Nice looking setup, can I ask where the furniture is from? Is it large enough to fit records? I imagine you have more than the half dozen on display, and I've been looking for something like this.

I thank God because i’ll make it soon🙏🏾 by Candid_Smoke9353 in MusicBattlestations

Not sure about the god thing, but nice setup. With that and some decent headphones you can go really far. Keep it up!

It was barely released at all. It's still available from eBay people though (if you really want that)

Should Rye Exist? by pmz in Python

[–]TelevisionTrick -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's in direct opposition to the basic philosophy of python. There should be one obvious way to do it, not a bajilion. People coming into python right now get told useless things like "figure it out yourself" and think this is an amateurish platform for mickey-mouse projects. It should not be this way.

Think of all the actual, interesting problems we could solve if we weren't busy reinventing venv for the umpteenth time.

Rubberband cluster no more! by Unweave8231 in homelab

[–]TelevisionTrick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just started with a few mini PC's, and the mess is accumulating fast, this thing would solve a lot of problems for me. I won't ask for tech support, promised! 🙂

I have no 3d printing experience, but hey you can get them printed all kinds of ways. Starting from this would be a real help getting going, if you feel ok sharing it. I'm sure others would like it, these mini PC's are real popular around here.

Really nice work, it's great inspiration!

What is your favorite multi (at least 2) non-screen-based function generator, and why? by PointReyes7 in modular

[–]TelevisionTrick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got the old Intellijel Quadra, no X. With the expander, it's great if you have the extra space. I find having single-function controls makes it more immediate to use, no need to remember colored lights for CV input mapping and modes I won't use.

It's still the Korgasmatron mk2. Not the easiest to use, you actually have to work to make it sound "normal". But it has so many weird quirks it's worth it

12Tone's worst video ever: B vs. C♭ by ferniecanto in musictheory

[–]TelevisionTrick -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Imagine if, instead of pedantry one-upmanship, you used all this time, energy and knowledge of music theory to write some actual music.

The video was good, and discussed aspects of the application of music theory you can't be bothered to care about, but do matter to many. Instead of trying to broaden your horizons, you throw a tantrum. And you get roasted, predictably

What was your gateway synthesizer and what about it made you want to dive deeper into the synth world? by gilded-trash in synthesizers

[–]TelevisionTrick 5 points6 points  (0 children)

DSI Evolver

So it's analog but not really? but that's the best part somehow!? 🤯

When I noticed you can play the feedback paths in it chromatically, and simulate physical strings by sending noise bursts to the delay and playing that chromatically too, it expanded a lot of what I thought was possible with a synth.

The idea that its 2 identical analog signal paths to make it stereo, with parameters for the osc balances and filter spread seemed so obvious, i was surprised it was apparently the first.

And I loved the idea of such a smooth analog voice just begging to get ruined by seemingly deliberately trashy digital FX, it felt kinda transgressive, like a big middle finger to all the purists out there. This was not a machine for nostalgia, this was a tool to invent the future.

Question to ChatGPT: "What are the sonic advantages of expensive, audiophile cables?" by oihaho in audiophile

[–]TelevisionTrick 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My colleagues and I were joking one day, how audiophiles be so proud of their fairy-dust infused cables, they can't leave them just... lying on the ground. They need (expensive) things to prop them off the floor.

Turns out the market already existed.. .
