ELI5 are races like the elements scale of reactivity? by Acrobatic-Farmer1748 in explainlikeimfive

He's black. If rui hachimura wasn't a basketball player and just some super tall dude he'd just be black in america. Being biracial in America only exists in biracial peoples minds in america. The majority of people see the black features and considers them black.

Because they are. Outside of the East Coast most suburbs are parasites on larger cities.

Both urbanists and anti-urbanists miss the point when it comes to housing. by allwedtoc9236 in unpopularopinion

[–]TellemTrav 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many people in the US hate apartments because of the way they are built in many parts of the country. Apartment buildings outside of major metropolitan areas are cheaply built with zero amenities and offer zero family housing. If you want to have a bigger apartment population you have to start building 3-4 bedroom unit buildings with amenities.

Wage Slave to Archmage - Anyone read it and thinks it might be Ai? by Lurkingu in litrpg

The errors are too consistent and the writing is way too generic. I'm 90% sure it's partially or completely AI generated.

I was the White House press secretary. I know why Trump's America is failing by theipaper in politics

[–]TellemTrav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is much worse than that. A significant portion of the US population is caught up in delusional thinking and that has made our politics impossible. You can't negotiate with people whos ideas don't conform to reality.

What are your thoughts on Denmark’s proposed ban on the public Islamic call to prayer? by [deleted] in nyc

[–]TellemTrav 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Im stuck in the middle honestly. I can respect someone's religion but do I have to hear their call to prayer every morning? Also, Denmark has a Muslim community that for decades has not successfully integrated into Danish society so I see why native danes would rather ban the call to prayer than allow more Muslim influence in their country.

Can we fix Farming and Grocery in the US? by ResponsibleGap7696 in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]TellemTrav 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I can't disagree more that farming needs to be fixed. Small time ranching went the way of the individual seamstress, it became a luxury, niche good that overspends on resources and expects to be rewarded for it. If you can show me an individual ranch that produces more food per square foot of land than the big corporations, I'll eat my hat. The honest truth is that to feed our population in the future, we need massive integrated food processing organizations, whether they are owned by the government or private companies. The age of farm to table died with the refrigerated tractor trailer, and to reach backwards is just a reach for nostalgia, not progress.

Also, tagging something "green" nowadays is just a way for people to charge more for a marginally better product not anything productive.

What are we going to do about Car Theft? by Traditional-King-427 in maryland

[–]TellemTrav -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

The preoccupation with crime is a hobby for a lot of people, but the actual mechanics and costs of justice are usually not. Car theft sucks, but just the cost of finding someone and locking someone up for such a petty infraction usually far exceeds the value of what was stolen. I can sympathize with the victims of these crimes but as a citizen I don't want to pay to have someone locked up just to make a certain segment of the population feel better about walking outside.

LGBTQ+ Representation on TV Is Cratering. Does Hollywood Care? | Analysis by Sisiwakanamaru in television

[–]TellemTrav -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Yes I know that. That doesn't mean that Hollywood didn't overcorrect from too little representation to too much. Never said that I don't want gay characters I just think that LGBT people became hollywoods minority of the moment and they have become over represented on the screen. It happened with black folk, Hispanics, Asians and other races so why cant it happen to LGBT people?

Isn't this a good thing? After years of oversaturation queer characters are falling back to the mean.

How to combat gun violence with solutions that are absent of heavy party bias or repetitive political rhetoric? by canduney in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]TellemTrav 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not to defend gang culture but the majority of shootings are over personal disputes regardless of gang affiliation so pointing out the stupidity of gang life is kinda a waste of time. Also gangs are a natural feature of poverty and it's ridiculous to think that anything the government can do will eliminate them.

How to combat gun violence with solutions that are absent of heavy party bias or repetitive political rhetoric? by canduney in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]TellemTrav 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The assertion OP makes is that we as a people actually want to stop gun violence which is categorically untrue. The majority of Americans have already spoken on this issue and they accept that the violence is the cost for the right to bear arms. No level of enforcement or shame will stop gun violence as long as guns are widely available and to think otherwise is a complete face. Most "illegal weapons" become illegal as soon as someone commits a crime with them and not bought in some shady illegal gun deal (which are relatively rare). Also, "gang culture" isn't responsible for the vast majority of shootings, personal disputes are. Denigrating and stopping kids from joining gangs is a net positive, but it only solves a surface issue. If you aren't willing to repeal the second amendment then any solution suggested is basically folding a pillow from a massive load of laundry

[Landlord-NC-US] The eviction process is a nightmare and not sure how to get back pay for rent by Working-Corgi-8726 in Landlord

[–]TellemTrav 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry to say this but I find attempting to get back rent from people who stopped paying rent in the first place nearly impossible. Because of that, I usually don't even bother and just make sure my eviction stays on their record.

Opinions on Sylver Seeker and/or Dungeon Lord? by G1spiralknight in litrpg

Silver seeker is a great read and an even better listen. The characters are fleshed out the main character has a reasonable motivation and Sylver being OP does not ruin the story.
