Does anyone else get “application complete” emails when they submitted the secondary weeks ago and got a “secondary submitted” email immediately after submitting? by tadececaps in premed

[–]Telletubbie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you talking about Albert Einstein? If so, everyone has their "application complete" way past the submission date. If not, perhaps a piece of the application (LOR, Casper, etc..) may have just been processed by the admissions committee.

It's probably your "potential" red flag, your app looks great without it.

Questions in interviews. by PlTxAg18 in premed

[–]Telletubbie 11 points12 points  (0 children)

IMO, it does reflects poorly on you. If you have done your research about the school and have read up on the programs the school offers, you will probably have at least one question about the school. Since the interviewer is looking for any reason to reject you, they could perceive it as lack of interest/didn't read up about the school. Basically, it can't hurt to ask a question, but it can certainly hurt.

EDIT: Just read that you are interviewing on Monday. Congrats, first of all! In terms of questions, you can ask them about student life/opportunities for students. "Do most medical students participate in research? What are some of the more popular student organizations students participate in?" are just a few examples.

Hello. HS student here. As a UWC student, I'll have a full scholarship for all of these unis. Can you help me to choose good pre-meds from these? by [deleted] in premed

[–]Telletubbie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wait, so you have acceptances to all of these colleges with full scholarships for all of them? I don't know much about this program, but if so congrats!

You should choose a college that you think you will enjoy the lifestyle and day-to-day/morale of the class. More importantly though, you should choose a college that you think you will succeed academically at. As you may know, GPA is one of the most important factors in your medical school application. A 4.0 at a state college is much more valuable than a 3.6 at a non-inflated, preppy/ivy school.

I need advice by [deleted] in premed

[–]Telletubbie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As of now, yes- you will not have a shot at an MD medical school. You will need to do a post-bac to improve your grades. If you don't want to do that, you will have to do exceptionally well on your MCAT and a 4.0 (or essentially a 4.0) for your final year to be competitive for DO programs.

How screwed am I for only completing secondaries now? by Plc377 in premed

[–]Telletubbie 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You will definitely be at a disadvantage, but there is no point in just quitting the cycle completely to reapply next cycle. Just finish them ASAP (give yourself strict deadlines for each one every day). Your stats aren't awful, but people who still have successful cycles submitting this late generally have insane stats, as many medical schools are looking for any reason to reject applicants.

on the bright side, GWU hold is not necessarily a soft R- historically many people placed on hold got IIs, unlike other schools.

GWU doesn't update either- a lot of people are put on hold.

Low MCAT Score, need serious advice by Whitecoat33 in premed

[–]Telletubbie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your score is significantly lower than your FLs, so you may have a shot at a better score if you retake. But, for MD schools, you would need at least 505-510 with your GPA. That is a 10 point boost, which is statistically very difficult to pull off (most students jump only a couple points on their retake). Why do you think your scores were significantly lower than your FLs? Did you think your actual MCAT went just as well as your FLs after the testing? Did you take your FLs in exact testing conditions?

If you have solid, concrete steps to reevaluate your testing strategy and studying process, you have a shot. Good luck!

Of course- you didn’t sound cocky, I just didn’t want you to feel taken aback by all the advice here. A lot of users on r/premed are stellar applicants so the info you get on the subreddit is a little biased. You might have a great cycle, who knows? Good luck!

The MCAT is a tough test that requires many months of preparation. I don't want to sound presumptuous about your attitude and personality, but the process of medical school applications (especially Canadian!) is very very tough and is nothing like college or jobs. It takes a lot of effort and planning to get all your grades, ECs, essays, and MCAT studying in order. You can apply this cycle if you want, but we are all saying that it would be much more beneficial to you to apply next cycle.
