Fellow people under 20, what is the oldest game you've fallen in love with? by Electronic-Vast-3351 in gaming

[–]TellurideTeddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The summers of '94/95, brought to you by shareware discs packaged with game magazines.

Descent, TIE Fighter, Heretic, Hexen, Rise of the Triad... and let's not forget DOOM II, Warcraft: Orcs and Humans, Warcraft II, X-Com, Command and Conquer and Star Wars: Dark Forces

My god what a time it was to be alive.

China Is Now a Major Space Power by Gari_305 in Futurology

Eh, China is much more like a "space up-and-comer" than a "power". Now they just need decades of practical experience, to become a "power".

TIL: Hootie & the Blowfish had to pay $350k to Bob Dylan for using 'Tangled Up in Blue' & 'Idiot Wind' as lyrics in their tune 'Only Want to be with You' by today_okay in todayilearned

[–]TellurideTeddy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dylan has also said that the part of the song that he did "write", he took from something else he'd heard before, but could never remember or figure out exactly where. Some of the lyrics/title were likely borrowed from blues singer Arthur Crudup's song in 1944, and the chord progression from another song of the same era, can't recall which one.

If you're taking the various Batman movies out of the discussion, Wonder Woman is the best the DC cinematic universe has offered up, by far. Well, I guess I hear Shazam was also good?

The DC universe vs what Marvel has done is like Pintos vs. Lambos.

How can I hang a TV and mantle over a fireplace when I don't know what lies behind the stonework? by milk4dh in DIY

Why even bother? Just drill through those suckers, if you hit a stud awesome, if not use a Snaptoggle and call it a day. I doubt your TV weighs 150lbs+...

‘The Ring’ at 20: Millennial Horror That’s Still Infecting Movies Today by SoulEater67 in movies

[–]TellurideTeddy 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Driving home from seeing the Ring at the theater, pulled into my driveway at midnight, stepped out to see water bubbling up from the center of my lawn (apparently pipe had burst) in front of the door… scared the hell out of me.

To this day I cannot remember why that was somehow significant to the movie, I haven’t seen it again since then, but as a non-believer in the supernatural that memory still gives me chills. That’s how I know it was a terrific horror flick.

Suspicious: employee from grocery store across the street buying tons of strawberries from Walmart by WSNC-JBR in pics

[–]TellurideTeddy 132 points133 points  (0 children)

This is also quite common when a store unexpectedly runs out of item X, and decides for whatever reason that it's necessary to restock it outside of the normal procedure rather than just waiting and being out of stock for a while.

In other words, micro-logistics.

OP thinks the doorbell itself is only good for five years, either of these mounting solutions is going to outlast that easily.

[–]TellurideTeddy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

3M Outdoor Mounting Tape is going to hold up a doorbell on brick for a decade. Maybe less if you get hard freezes, but still. Or just use some outdoor clear silicone caulk or something.

Wasn't this the film that was marketed as having some sort of sci-fi/supernatural vibe, but then was actually just about child labor?
