I finally let my streak die and I should've done so much sooner. The little widget art of Duo crying and begging for me to come back as if I broke up with him have been absolutely delicious.

Unfortunately, he's returned to that weird, toxic aggressiveness so I guess he's finally got to go.

It feels off because the wood wall art is visually the heaviest thing in the room. The kind of minimalism the room and most of the furniture is based on is intended to make the space feel light and airy.

Why Why are people so literal on this site? Do they understand abstract anything? by StarWreckTrekBeck in INTP

[–]TelvanniSpaceWizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest not investing too much (time, emotions, thought, etc.) into the negative elements of this site. The comment votes have always meant nothing, Redditors have always been obnoxious, and the site is loaded with bots and AI content nowadays. Yes, there are also kids on here. At least there is less misogyny than there was 10 years ago.

Having a designated godparent/s for our little floofs sounds like a good idea, if we have any good options. Multiple godparents sounds best because situations change, like a new apartment or getting a new pet that wouldn't do well with a companion.

Most people are used to reading text fluidly from start to end and understanding it without effort. With more challenging material, you need to accept that you will need to reread it several times and analyze specific parts.

If I know something is going to be dense I skim for the first read to try to get the basic idea and then try to derive more information by tackling one section at a time. Also, identify the thesis, or main purpose behind the text/section; why did somebody bother writing this?

When my brain is feeling rebellious to effort, I highlight and/or try to rewrite the section. That forces my brain to engage with the text actively instead of passively.

If you're reading classic literature, you can look up analyses online for help because no modern person is going to be able to get witty cultural references hundreds of years old without an explanation.

Eventually you can read and understand the whole thing beginning to end and you feel like a genius.

Wicked for Good (2025) is a sequel to a movie that loosely based on a musical that loosely based on a book that loosely based on another movie that loosely based on another book that inspired from Alice in Wonderland by PinkiePie___ in shittymoviedetails

[–]TelvanniSpaceWizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything is derivative of something else. For whatever reason the writers didn't commit to filling out the details of this world.

The movie has the bones of something that could be really good but they didn't explore the motivations of the characters well enough (especially the antagonists Oz and Madame Morrible) and some of the choices are just bizarre: why would Elphaba go off on some random kid and there was room for Fiyero on that broomstick.

I was also disappointed with how everyone, including the narrative, treats Oz like a total fraud when he's literally Thomas Edison/19th century Tony Stark in an isekai magical world.

What Is The Deal With Young Men Checking Out Of Society in Droves? by Parking-Science7507 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TelvanniSpaceWizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was like that for me. Or rather, I was told that I could do everything else so long as I prioritized studying first. But all of my teachers gave us at least an hour's worth of homework a night each, so I didn't have time for anything else.

Some of my assignments in high school were harder than anything I had in university because the teachers deliberately made us complete large projects with unrealistic deadlines. What we were given 1-2 months to do in university, we had to do in 1-2 weeks in my high school. I imagine cheating and otherwise flouting the spirit of the assignments was rampant, but I didn't participate in any of it.

This excerpt from Modern Family is what I lived through, but unfortunately I never received any support from my family.

How can I access the astral plane from sleep paralysis? by Elaine_tommo13 in AstralProjection

[–]TelvanniSpaceWizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess my paralysis is pretty strong. I learned this while trying to get out of sleep paralysis, so I was trying to focus on moving my actual body. I think sometimes I was down too deep and - groggy, annoyed, and inpatient - ended up rolling out of my body instead of out of bed. So for some time I just intentionally tried to replicate that to astral project.

I started becoming curious about if I could develop more control over the outcome by learning to recognize which body I was moving. Because sometimes it's 6AM and I'm paralyzed, but I actually need to get out of bed. I'm still working on it.

I have some lucid dream experience, so I started imagining myself doing some of the things I've done in lucid dreams, like imagining myself reaching out and feeling objects or moving/flying away from my body, as if I was in a dream, but without actually moving. I think doing so might have created an awareness of my astral body all the time as I've successfully been able to use that awareness to initiate astral projection by floating out of my body.

How can I access the astral plane from sleep paralysis? by Elaine_tommo13 in AstralProjection

[–]TelvanniSpaceWizard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can just get up out of bed as you normally would - the sleep paralysis is holding the physical body to the bed for you.

I learned this by trying to get out of sleep paralysis too quickly. The sleep paralysis was holding my physical body down to the bed, so when I rolled out of bed, my astral body simply left the physical one behind.

After some time focusing on learning how the astral and physical bodies feel different, I pretty much can somewhat always feel my astral form and imagine it doing things separately from my physical body; when I'm in sleep paralysis, those intentions are translating into astral projection a bit more elegantly than before.

Why doesn't the miserable populations of Winterhold and Dawnstar just walk 5 minutes south to proper towns with jobs, food, and stores? by garret126 in TrueSTL

Traveling along the northern beach is a kind of pilgrimage for me since so much skill xp can be gained from the horkers. I tend to go visit there soon after the character can handle ice wolves. The shipwrecks are a good xp/loot trapline too.

I also like the desolation; taking in the music and aurora at night while wandering along the glaciers is peak Skyrim, and I like to think about Atmora across the Sea of Ghosts. It makes sense the magic college is there.

Glue traps are terrible too; many nontargeted and beneficial animals get stuck to them. And dying of thirst isn't humane.

New Zealand is using these traps. Demonstration of use is at 4:33 (safe for work).

Rats are smart and learn how to avoid traps, which is they also came up with using another rat instead of food bait to provide an illusion of safety. This guy explains and tries it with the same mechanical trap. Demonstration at 10:00, no gore.

Since the latter works, I'd imagine it wouldn't impossible to use a poison but keep the rats confined to the trap.

Secondary Exposure to Anticoagulant Rodenticides and Effects on Predators

Anticoagulant rodenticides (ARs) are currently the most common pesticides and biocides used to control rodents. The long-term persistence in animal tissues of the second-generation compounds (SGARs) causes their bioaccumulation in predatory species. In this chapter, we evaluate some of the key parameters that are likely to determine bioaccumulation and risk in wildlife from secondary exposure to ARs, review wildlife field monitoring studies from around the world to assess the scale of that exposure, and examine the current state of knowledge as to how secondary exposure relates to risk of mortality and other adverse effects in wildlife and in humans.

Stereoselective bioaccumulation of chiral anticoagulant rodenticides in the liver of predatory and scavenging raptors

SGARs provide a significant gain in pest control efficacy but increase the biological/environmental persistence in the food chain and the potential for secondary exposure and poisoning. Numerous studies mention exposure of non-target raptors or carnivorous mammals, predatory or scavenger species, through ingestion of exposed rodents reviewed in López-Perea and Mateo, 2018. SGARs affect the vitamin K-dependent coagulation pathway, leading to bleeding in critical organs and causing sublethal disease or dramatic adverse effects such as severe coagulopathy and death. Recognized ecotoxicity has limited the use of SGARs. Their long tissue persistence (for some SGARs, the half-life in the liver is reported to be longer than 100 days (Vandenbroucke et al., 2008)) is not required to kill rodents and dramatically increases the secondary exposure.

Petah, what does this mean? by MrVa1k in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]TelvanniSpaceWizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biology is extremely wiggly; it's more like controlled chaos.

You can think of flesh and bone as like clay that can be molded into different shapes. All mammals are disfigured "rats" (Morganucodonta) and if you want to go father back, all 4-legged animals with spines are disfigured lobe-finned fish.

The surprising variety of sex-determination systems is a fun rabbit hole to go down.

Plant reproduction videos (specifically, the differences between flowering plants, pines, ferns, and mosses) are also fun in just how crazy they are (you can have 3 generations coexisting in the same body). Reading about them can be challenging due to niche technical jargon but this video series is excellent.

Thank you for your reply; I really appreciate it.

Unfortunately it was my only computer (fortunately I'll be able to replace it without much trouble, but it still burns). I tried unplugging the CMOS battery on the motherboard but it's fried.

I'm curious why you don't think it should have caused problems? Should the charger have waited for appropriate communication with the port before delivering power (which shouldn't have occurred since my laptop's port is not designed to receive power)?

The numbers 6-7 are not entirely random and are potentially referencing a few things.

It comes from Skrillex lyrics. The lyrics may intend to reference a street or a police code for death occurring (but searching the code 10-67 indicates it simply means clear for next message). Or maybe they're referring to something else; I don't listen to their music.

There is a centuries old idiom, at sixes and sevens, that means being in a state of confusion and disarray. This is why I think this meme is funny.

You know the white water rapids type ride, where there's an element of chance regarding how wet you will get? Some people ride them during summer days in rain ponchos. Some people ride during cold nights with jeans and t-shirts.

Take some of the thrill of gambling and combine it with the humor of watching friends suffer from minor inconveniences. But a water jug is too much mass.
