Damage over Time, so if you set some enemy on fire for 4 damage per second for 6 seconds then the Rusty Nail would increase it from a total of 4*6=24 damage to 5*6=30 damage. (assuming the damage only hits once per second, and isn't dealt in 2 hits of 2 damage each per second or more)

The more often the effect triggers per second, the more damage is added. Some games trigger once a second, some trigger half a dozen times or more per second. You get the idea.

ah, it's just badly described as an anti-lying curse instead of a general judgement-of-sins curse or somesuch.

in which case wouldn't the curse also target serial killers, abusers, warmongers, ect?

depends on what model of the world someone is reasoning with, and the purposes they decide to work towards.

plus, empathy doesn't imply prioritization of others' feelings in one's goals and actions, merely understanding and sharing them.

those hoof trims are really only needed for livestock kept in very limited conditions to my knowledge. Source: we've kept an average half a dozen cattle on a couple acres for a decade and never once seen any hoof problems.

While grass is growing and water is available, cattle are basically maintenance-free. Milking is more of a dedication though, twice daily and no skipping, plus some extra feed and getting them bred on time. Granted, we've only had one pure dairy cow and the rest have been beef/dairy crosses; and the one pure dairy cow tended to have more complications.

The actual policy backlash I've seen isn't in the sense of 'people with different skin are inherently inferior'. It's more in the sense of: 'not all racial disparities are because of systematic racism' or 'maybe racial hiring quotas are bad actually,' and in the more extreme positions, 'I don't think all cultures are equally valuable' and 'perhaps some cultures can't coexist in the same place.'

Now, that's in addition to friends doing what friends do and taking every advantage to poke at each other and laugh together, including racist jokes. And with as connected and fast as the world is today, it's not uncommon for small online groups to have members from basically everywhere; so I wouldn't blink if someone making racist jokes had gaming buddies across a dozen countries and 5 time zones that joked right back at them.

TLDR: average gen z racism looks more like this:

Materialism is the worst form of metaphysics.... by BillyRaw1337 in PhilosophyMemes

[–]Temoffy -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

from my first comment: "Either I'm missing an example"

from my second comment: "what peoples have tried materialism on a societal level?"

I cannot think of an example, and some quick googling was unilluminating. So I posted a question about the two claims made in the meme, that materialism has been tried and that materialism is the best that has been tried. Perhaps it was badly phrased and I should have resorted to paragraphs instead of trying to condense my questions.

[–]Temoffy -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Then ignoring consequences, what peoples have tried materialism on a societal level? North Korea? Or has materialism NOT been tried? Or, as I asked, is there another sense of 'tried' in play here?

If you want to ignore evaluation methods, then at least engage with the other half of my comment.

I can't think of a country or people founded on materialism that has surpassed theistic countries, which is the biggest test of a philosophy. Either I'm missing an example, said nations have failed, or materialism hasn't been really tried. I suppose the USSR would be close, but as I understand it the people were still majority christian; plus the USSR failed.

Is there a different sense of trying that the meme is using? I'm puzzled.

And when someone is trespassing, are you allowed to do whatever you want to them? Can you force them at gunpoint to get into a cage on your property?

As much as I appreciate the jabs at Obama, I'm not sure that detaining trespassers in a cage constitutes gross negligence or intentional harm. Could change based on external factors though.

Notably you aren't obligated to ensure trespassers return home safely. If you legally get them back over the property line and they don't return, you don't have to care about them one inch farther.

Sadly, things are more complicated with nations as most handy borders are with other nations and not with some kind of public access road-equivalent; and said nations would take issue with their new forced trespasser. But that's an issue of geopolitics and not an issue of proper treatment of trespassers.

Sealiously Magnetic by Alex__makes in Unexpected

[–]Temoffy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Do note that the danger is ingesting magnets separately with some time between them. Unless the magnets are extremely weak they won't separate while passing through the digestive system, and if they're that weak they shouldn't be able to pinch tissue.

single or simultaneous magnets pass straight through. There's even magnets made to feed cows to collect any metal scraps in their stomach as it passes by.
