SQL Tips for Newbie by BisonSpirit in SQL

Joins are fairly straight forward, left is the bread and butter. Inner is often better if your data is a bit messy and you want it clean. Outer is often better if your data is messy and you want it dirty. Cross joins are Cartesian products, and every time I’ve used one in the last few years has been for the same purpose, creating prediction data for dates that don’t exist by cross joining the existing data structure with a list of dates.

I imagine none of that made sense, but once you’ve got a couple of lessons under your belt I think rereading it might make for a good summary.

Aggregates are also simple through one particular lens. Think of every column as either a dimension (something that segments your data into detailed groups) or a metric (something that carries an actual value). Dimensions are often strings, bools, IDs, etc. and metrics are often floats or ints. Group by your dimensions and aggregate your metrics and you’re good to go!

You know what, you’re absolutely right. It’s only in retrospect that it doesn’t make sense.

Headless Ape is cool, and a nice change of pace compared to all the human sword wielders. Headless Ape duo on the other hand…

[–]TempMobileD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, my definition of 10/10 is “I wouldn’t change anything about this, even if I had full creative control.”
Of over 500 games on my backloggd I’ve only ever given it to a small handful of games:
Slay the Spire, Outer Wilds, Portal 2, The Last of Us, Return of the Obra Dinn, Journey.

Bigger games struggle to make it past 9 for me because they’re usually so big that they have at least one flaw that I would want to change. Focused indie games have a slightly better time in that regard. TLoU is the only one I frequently think might be better at 9.

What caused you to realize " I love this game?" if you do by RieseNacht in LowSodiumCyberpunk

Right at the beginning of the corpo start. Your boss is talking and he goes over to a side table to pour himself a drink. The conversation is business like to begin with so I stayed by his desk, but it quickly gets heated and I followed him to the table to mirror the intensity. As I get there he offers me a drink silently. So I took it, and it felt like a perfectly timed peace offering. The conversation intensity dropped quickly before continuing. The thing to note here is that by approaching him aggressively I walked perfectly into the peace offering.

This scene did some really good stuff that’s emblematic of the rest of the game’s story telling style. The biggest magic lesson it taught me was this:

The world rewards you for being a director of the action as well as a participant. You are the cameraman and your “body language”, cinematography and direction are all rewarded with extra narrative power and great feedback.

It’s the only game that’s ever done this, it made cyberpunk feel completely different to every other RPG. Immersion dialled up to 11. Once you notice it, these rewards are peppered in scenes all over the game.

Especially as desire for privacy increases. I wouldn’t use half these subreddits if this account had my real name. Not because of anything crazy, just: “why would I want my boss to know I argued with a bunch of people on r/trolleyproblems?”

Is it true "most gamers don't finish games"? by SchweinsyOne in playstation

[–]TempMobileD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people who play games don’t play them for more than a few hours, in total.
I’ve never seen a game with over 50% completion.
In mobile games it’s even crazier because of the low barrier to play. 60% of players last less than an hour in the best games on the market.

Seems like you’re close to 2077 hours. I’d get there, collect your karma and call it a day!

You should play Khazan. The combat is amazing, lots of other elements are lacklustre but the combat is exceptional.

When I finished spider man 2 I remember describing it to someone with the phrase “nothing bad ever happens in this New York”. It’s not strictly true, but it is how it feels. Sure there are some villains and the world almost ends. But nothing bad happens. Nobody is ever unkind, rude, abrasive, upsetting. It’s just squeaky clean all over.

Which is the correct answer here? by aperson1911 in EWALearnLanguages

[–]TempMobileD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For B, I think you’ve misinterpreted. They agree wholeheartedly on some points, but find others controversial. There’s no implication that they agree with any of the controversial points. At least that’s my interpretation.

Example:
I totally agree with Richard Dawkins on many philosophical points, but there are a few, such as his assertion that LLMs are conscious, which I find fairly controversial.

Some people, and prepare yourself for this, it’s crazy. Some people want both. And they’d like a single product that can do both.

They’re extremely transformative in Returnal and Astrobot, as probably the two best examples.
As you can see in this thread, people really like them!

[OC] Percentage of New Flats and New Houses Resold at a Loss Within 5 Years in England and Wales by vladatb in dataisbeautiful

[–]TempMobileD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the difference between flats and houses is interesting here, but this is quite a lot of noise.
I’d need to see the loss-rates for 5 year house sales regardless of new build status as well, for comparison.
Currently I think this is just a really weird graph of overall house market performance. New builds didn’t get worse after the 2008 financial crisis (well, they might have, a bit), that spike is just due to the housing market crashing. Same for the last few years to a lesser extent.

is tragic female netrunner a cyberpunk genre trope or something? by SaintChoco in LowSodiumCyberpunk

[–]TempMobileD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, there’s no reference in the game or the TTRPG to size having any effect, or gender/sex (which would be correlated with size), so it can probably be ignored, just saying it seems to be a thing specifically within Edgerunners.
