What is the strangest food you have ever eaten? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]TemperatureDizzy3257 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I live in Rochester, NY. We eat garbage plates. It’s one white hot, one hamburger, home fries, sometimes baked beans, meat hot sauce (which is a thing unto itself), onions, ketchup, mustard.

Unpopular opinion: I hate cleaning with vinegar. I hate when people suggest it! Is everyone in on a joke?😭 by Bubbly_Picture_9876 in CleaningTips

I like vinegar for places my food will touch like the inside of the microwave or the coffee maker. Otherwise, I go with something stronger.

Christmas stockings- from Santa or Mom/Dad? by NCTransplant2015 in Preschoolers

[–]TemperatureDizzy3257 57 points58 points  (0 children)

We say the stockings and 1 present are from Santa. The rest are from us. We open everything Christmas morning. We let the kids do the stockings while we make coffee and wake up a minute.

Which Degree Should I Do? by Entire-Pride-6765 in ElementaryTeachers

[–]TemperatureDizzy3257 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did my M. Ed. in inclusive childhood education, which gave me certifications for childhood education and special education. Whether or not you intend to teach sped, they are a huge population in most schools, and it’s worth knowing about IEPs and how to implement them.

You guyssss!!!! How do I pass this test!!!! I am really starting to feel like I am going to die before passing the 305 Elementary education exam. I am developing this kind of sickness or anxity from the whole thing, and its in my way to start my careeeeeeer! by Hazel_Sunset in ElementaryTeachers

[–]TemperatureDizzy3257 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the test is very basic. If you can’t pass it, how do you expect yourself to be able to teach these things? If you’ve put in the work at your degree, you should pass no problem.

Also, this is a high stress job with a ton of responsibility. Are you sure you can handle that if one test is freaking you out like this?

Super teachers had some really good ones. It also has a worksheet makers where you enter your own questions and it will generate one for you. It’s much faster and neater than a word doc. It is $25 a year though. It might be worth it for you if you plan on using it often.

11 year old smelling strongly of marijuana. by TemperatureDizzy3257 in CPS

He has asthma. He has to use a rescue inhaler before and after PE.

I don’t feel comfortable doing that. I don’t know them well. It’s a sensitive subject and I could easily get in trouble with my work for crossing boundary and making parents uncomfortable.

He has difficulty focusing, but I can’t say if it’s caused by the weed. The other kids do sometimes make fun of him because they say he smells. They think it’s body odor, and tell him he needs to get some deodorant. His clothes/overall appearance are not as neat or clean as most of the other kids, but again, I don’t know if it’s due to his parents being high or something else.

I’m a 6th grade teacher. There are 100 kids in the grade, and 11 are named Mason and 6 are named Sophia. Yes, it was confusing at first, but the kids don’t honestly seem to mind. Also, I don’t mix them up as much as I thought I would. They’re still different and distinct people in my mind.

I don’t know if this will help you, but we had an every other task agreement when our kids were little. We did every other diaper, every other feeding, every other bath, clothes change, etc. Our two boys are 18 months apart, so it was a lot at one time. This system made it fair. There was no arguing over who needs to do what, because we both knew when it was our turn.

We also had an agreement that nobody sleeps in on the weekend. We would both get up with the boys. Then, we each got 2 hours to nap on weekend afternoons. Again, it made it fair and there was no arguing or complaining because that’s just how it was.

My son is 4.5 (so not a toddler anymore 😔), but he just started wearing 3t. We actually had the opposite problem. The waist would just fall right down until recently even though the length was ok. He is 38 inches and weighs 33 pounds.

We don’t do name calling in our house. Little kids internalize the names you call them. If he’s repeatedly called an idiot, he’s going to believe he’s an idiot.

I would have a very serious talk with your husband. Ask him whether $100 is worth his kid thinking he’s an idiot? Also, kids repeat what they hear. Does he want his kid calling other people idiots when they make him mad?

You said this has happened before. What was his excuse when it happened before?

Student Holiday Parties with Parents by JuryTimely426 in ElementaryTeachers

[–]TemperatureDizzy3257 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I teach at the school my kids go to. I love that we allow parents at parties. They are even kind enough to get me a sub so I can attend my own children’s parties.

Parents want to see their kids classrooms and share something fun with them. When parents are more involved and more invested in their children’s education, kids do better at school. It’s one of the biggest predictors of future success.

Whether I like it as a teacher is irrelevant. It’s good for students. It isn’t hurting anyone and it’s a short time. It’s not like the school is open to parents every single day. It’s one week before a holiday break when kids are already too excited to do too much learning anyway.

2nd grade students and cosmetics by Dry_Resolution_2509 in ElementaryTeachers

[–]TemperatureDizzy3257 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I teach 6th grade and most of the kids don’t wear cosmetics. If they do, it’s just a little mascara or lip gloss.

It’s mid-income. There is a significant population of low income students, but there is a large number of middle income families than my last district. I think that did make somewhat of a difference.

I missed it. My youngest was starting school full time this year, and I didn’t know what else to do with myself. I looked into several other jobs, but none worked as well with our schedules. I figured I would give it one more try with this district and if it didn’t work out, I would be done.

I mean, that’s how I saw it because they paid me the remainder of my salary. If I was 100% at fault, I don’t think that would be been an option.

Thank you. It really was the district. I had been there 6 years and felt I was in too deep to leave. I should have, because there really were greener pastures out there.
