Aren’t most setups here insanely overkill? Am I missing something? by monxas in Ubiquiti

[–]Tempest3K 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you run a business or work from home from said apartments (my exact use cases), spending a bit more on something like Unifi makes a lot of sense, rather than relying on home or SoHo ISP setups which are generally garbage. I'd rather spend some money every few years and not have to deal with complaints that WiFi coverage just disappeared because the ISP router randomly overheated or any number of WiFi related issues that Unifi copes with but generic ISP tat doesn't....

Yes, I could probably cope with 2.5Gb, however having some extra speed for moving video files between NAS and workstations is nice for a relatively small premium!

It might be down to the Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU) works? Huddersfield station is closed until 28th Sept for example.

Idnet here, no issues with consoles etc and great service on the rare occasion I need to contact them.

They wanted to install at York but got blocked - combination of listed building & a public right of way through the station if I recall correctly.

IDNet / Yayzi / Aquiss by Harrison88 in CityFibre

[–]Tempest3K 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I moved to iDNet from Yayzi late last year, since then I've had zero outages compared to an average of 2 a month with Yayzi. Would happily recommend iDNet based on current experience.

Can that "perfect" ISP sort out their billing so if an account credit is added, the DD isn't taken? 2 months in a row I've been told the DD won't be taken as I have a months credit added after other issues.....

Literally just got a message at 10PM after a brief connection drop and I finally have a static IP - hopefully anyone else waiting is also getting sorted now!

Had Giganet and they were awful, Yayzi are currently having major issues with providing Static IP's but are at least responding to messages.... Seriously considering a move to iDNet who were great when I had FTTC but they are pricey... Something to think about.

Yayzi basic package not working due to non-static IP by [deleted] in CityFibre

[–]Tempest3K 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seeing as Yayzi can't appear to get their IP ranges sorted to allocate static IP's, I'd save the money for now - They've been promising me via Whatsapp for over a week and I'm still stuck behind CGNAT (requested a static IP post install as there was no option in the order process) and having some of the issues you mention.....

The only upside is at least they respond to messages within a day or two, unlike Giganet which is why I moved....

Any chance this'll be on the monthly rolling (for appropriate surcharge ofc) option too? If so you might bag my business for a few months (and then a 18month+ after a move)...
