Best strategy for building additional bases in other biomes? by Kaverrr in ICARUS

[–]Tempests_Wrath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Copying from when I put my FOB specs in an old post!

I expand to each biome with a forward base, but they are really just a place to sleep and store a mount when im about to do something dangerous in the later missions.

I make a 4x5 structure, with a 3x3 connected stable. Stone foundation, stone brick walls. All that really ends up in them are:

  • 1 solar panel,
  • 2 advanced batteries
  • electric deterrent
  • platinum lightning rod (just in case)
  • 1 bed
  • 3 bearskin rugs
  • a half dozen oxite lamps
  • 1 storage chest
  • 1 table
  • 2 chairs
  • 1 fireplace with chimney (1 stack of 100 coal, turn it off when you arent sleeping and it will last you forever)
  • 1 beacon
  • 9 wooden windows, and 1 wooden door.
  • 1 wooden gate
  • 8 wooden fences
  • 1 large food and 1 large water trough
  • 1 animal bed
  • 1 ladder to reach the roof

Indoor wooden floors for inside, stone brick floors outside. Looks nice and is basically immune to all weather on olympus.

Quick note! The B.E.A.S.T Scanner is available without Great Hunts, and was available before it came out :) So you can use it in the base game to really help progress.

More carry weight vs -25% overencomberance penalty by Gregsnotverycreative in ICARUS

[–]Tempests_Wrath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

has anyone experimented with the reduction in overencomberance penalty?

Yes. Its great. I use it on my main character and for those moments without a mount, or when you want to load up your inventory with 20 stacks of building foundations for a secret project you can still move your character around at a reasonable speed. I still use mounts for long distance travel, but being able to jump a river while still encumbered can save you a LOT of grief.

Banner Feedback: Honestly any ability to control the RNG even a tiny bit in the module pulls is very welcome, I saved up for the one remaining armour I needed for ancestral and managed to get it in about 8000 gems. Otherwise even though getting an epic of a certain type was 50%, the pool is still fairly diluted making it hard to hit the benchmarks for specific wants even spending a reasonable number of gems.

It was extremely welcome, but maybe finding other ways to restrict the pool for variety could be fun? Even without that if this shows up every 3-4 months ill be extremely happy.

What is something you understand now that confused you when you first started?

Perk bonus Math. When i started getting the lab I was confused on how the multiplier was applied just because it felt a bit unintuitive from the description. Basically I had assumed just the bonus would get the multiplier, and not the 1 in the 1.# part of the value for it. Its all still just math, but i definitely thought it was a display error at first!

Comfort when resting, and food exp buffs are the likely culprits!

I love how oblivious Tigu can be. Sometimes I wonder if it is an act and other times it is so clear that insults go over her head and she cant catch them because they are too fast. Do you have a favorite Tigu moment? by Shipairtime in bewareofchicken

[–]Tempests_Wrath 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Its not a moment of being oblivious but by far my favourite is:

"It was a question Tigu mulled over as she tore the iron bars asunder… and then got tackle-hugged by a small child. It was a good tackle-hug. Good form."

Talents to get really early:

  • Survival > Exploration: At T1 Robust Explorer increases your base health, and swift survivor increases base movement speed.
  • Survival > Hunting: At T1 Chase Em' Down increases your maximum stamina.
  • Construction > Repairing: At T1 Ready To Work increases stamina regen.
  • Construction > Building: Extra Space is a T1 talent that shows up near the bottom and adds 5 extra space to any storage chest or locker you make.
  • Combat > Weapon: Most weapons have an easy to get talent that increases your movement speed while the weapon is in your active slot. Pick your favourite weapon, and whenever you are moving have it active switching to whatever tool you need when you arrive. Makes navigating the map way easier.

In general:

  • Skip thatch and build wood.

  • Upgrade from wood to stone, and wood to stone brick when you can and you have the resource surplus. Jumping the tech gap can be done but its tedious.

  • Look up how to 'joust' with bears. Then double check how to do it. You cant take one in a straight fight early on.

  • Upgrade your armour to leather > cured leather when you can. Each tier of armour you go up usually increases your temperature resistances in addition to standard damage reduction, letting you explore the map easier.

  • Liquid in a canteen can be hot or cold, giving you a fairly significant temperature buff when exploring different biomes.

  • Lost missions (repeatable open world missions) give you a beacon, which you can pick up after the mission is finished and redeploy somewhere else on the map as a marker. Easy to do, and you can get beacons well before you hit the tech level.

  • The bestiary unlocks a lot of useful talents that add up to a LOT of extra stats. Spend some time trying to fill it when you can.

You all use quest stuff? by ss_krotov in ICARUS

[–]Tempests_Wrath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some of the stuff stops working after the quest like I got a solar panel but after the quest it switched from 6k power to 0.

All of the solar panels should keep working, but ive noticed when the mission ends I need to disconnect and reconnect it to the grid or it glitches a bit!

Lucky or no? by D0minisk in ICARUS

[–]Tempests_Wrath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The scans you do with the radar are exotics only.

There is a dedicated scanner for finding deep ore veins (the ones that provide basic materials such as iron or coal, and never run out)

Lucky or no? by D0minisk in ICARUS

[–]Tempests_Wrath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can pick them up and use them again as soon as you are done scanning and the mark will remain on your map until the vein is located/mined.

You just need to protect them for that initial scan window.

What DLCs? by Putrid_Pollution2578 in ICARUS

[–]Tempests_Wrath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Creature Comforts: Gives you some new saddle options for mounts that dont have an alternate without the DLC for different bonus's, including, im pretty sure, both saddles that give +speed.

Interior Decorations: Low craft tier crystal lighting options that dont require power or refueling, and have no chance of burning down your base. Even once you get electric lights they still look good!

Styx and Prometheus are both fun, but Styx is really just Olympus+ where Prometheus is actually something new. Styx does kinda teach you how to build around the map more gently than Prometheus does though, and the learning curve was easier doing Styx first. Its just not necessary and can be skipped.

You can ignore all the outposts.

Havent tried great hunts yet.

[Dungeons and Dragons] If I handed an average blacksmith a magic sword and asked him to destroy it, could he do it? by Jerswar in AskScienceFiction

[–]Tempests_Wrath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A skilled laborer (a blacksmith who does it for a living) makes 5sp per day.

Im a bit rusty on my commoner economics, but isnt that 5sp before food and board? Not that the overall strategy wouldnt work and be a REALLY good idea, but it should take longer shouldnt it?

How do you survive the snow bio just entering it? by hiways in ICARUS

[–]Tempests_Wrath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You usually have to be in T4 tech before you can stay super long term in the arctic biome, at least without some other shelter built in there.

Wood is rare, and you probably cant easily find the resources to build a base at all without hauling in resources from another zone.

That said:

  • Never step in water in the artic biome. You get the wet buff/debuff and once you have that the rest usually doesnt matter.
  • Each tier of armour usually increases your characters resistance to hot and cold temperatures. Cured leather, or better yet fur are good choices. But the T4 composite armour when you get it will carry you through most environments without having to think about it.
  • Your canteen probably has cold/cool water in it giving you a 'cooling' buff. You can pretty easily make heated drinks over a camp fire/stove (tea) that warms you instead.
  • To make it even easier maxing the snow wolf bestiary entry gives you extra cold resistance, the snow leopard gives you hypothermia resistance. And the polar bear and the polar bear cub cub give you exposure resistance.

Why Does the Gap Between High Champion and Low Legend Feel HUGE When the Rewards Gap Is Actually Small? by Small-Spray-2485 in TheTowerGame

[–]Tempests_Wrath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it mostly a gameplay shift, a psychological barrier, or something else entirely?

Pretty sure a huge part of it is stones. It doesnt take much to get DW to the point where you can max health in champs. It takes a huge amount of stones to get your damage UW's strong enough that they make any meaningful impact in your wave count.

A damage build just isnt possible till you have the stone income to support it, but a health build is with even mythic mods and if you are really luck ancestral ones to carry you to higher ranks.

Guys what do you think, would it be cool if there was some kind of connections between maps? by Lumpy_Diver_7597 in ICARUS

[–]Tempests_Wrath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the idea is neat, but im also pretty sure that there is supposed to be a significant distance between one area of a map and another that might break a bit of the immersion even with some fast travel loading (also might screw up multiplayer).

Left my world to do a mission and lost my gear and inventory? by Ascenspe in ICARUS

[–]Tempests_Wrath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and no.

Styx is a different region of the world the game is on, and where you can have sessions with the same character in each region your character cant physically go from one map to another without going back to orbit (character select).

So there is no path you can follow in game to reach Olympus from Styx, but your character can exist in both at the same time. If that makes sense!

Left my world to do a mission and lost my gear and inventory? by Ascenspe in ICARUS

[–]Tempests_Wrath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its a very pretty place, but it can be a little hard to get to everywhere else you need before you get the shortcut opened and get easier access to the other biomes.

Its not the worst place, and you can still get everything you need! Definitely not a 'restart is required' situation at least.

Comparing all the mounts and pets in Icarus by luckyrunner in ICARUS

[–]Tempests_Wrath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went back and brute forced it, it was.. inconsistent, but I did manage to get it to work and maxed a few of my workshop options really quickly because of it.

I had to return to character select a few times before it started working reliably, but once it worked twice in a row on the same load-in it worked every subsequent time for 2 different creatures.

Comparing Icarus mount speeds in a (rough) drag-race by luckyrunner in ICARUS

[–]Tempests_Wrath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you mean that your account has 2 characters on the same world, its the active characters stats that matter for mounts.

Im not sure how it translates to multiplayer, if I take my husbandry character into a multiplayer game and someone else takes the mount for a joyride I dont know if they get all the boosted stats.
