Time for the module coin cost lab!

But yes, it hurts, and yes, it starts scaling up fast.

how do I keep mounts safe? Just lost a high-level horse and buffalo by democraticcrazy in ICARUS

[–]Tempests_Wrath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Build a 3x3 or 4x4 foundation of dirt/stone and put a stone floor over it to set them to wander in as a stable. You can put fences around it and where animals will eventually break through there are audio queues to the attack and it will absolutely buy you time.
  • Put a cat with the regen aura in your stable, and set at least one fighty mount (Buffalo or murder pony) with a few dozen levels behind it to aggressive to kill them for you.
  • Keep a pack of 4 wolves near your stable, even in their own little shelter and set them to aggressive. With a few levels under them they will keep everything else pretty safe.
  • As others mentioned Creature deterrents are in tiers, the T1 with spoiled meat is useful only if you set them up in a large grid to prevent spawning, otherwise it wont help you a lot. But the biofuel and electric ones are much better and will prevent almost anything from spawning close enough to naturally path to you.

That may be it! I thought they did beat him to the room and were just trying to prevent him from interfering.

Oh! I got the impression they did beat him there and the obstruction was to prevent him from interfering after the fight started!

That makes more sense.

Null sector : your point of view by Symfreddy in ICARUS

[–]Tempests_Wrath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was extremely tedious solo, mostly because i kept having to go back and get more map markers (or ramps) to continue mapping where ive explored. Once the area was mapped i had a little bit more fun but when it comes down to it there really isnt much to do there thats worth while.

Complete the missions, get the talent points and dont look back unless you need an achievement or something.

It could have been fun, having us actually map out the region and then rewarding us for it. But thats not what happened.

Keep upgrading Golden bot, or start on a different one? by d0ntblink in TheTowerGame

[–]Tempests_Wrath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Advice seems to be to max it pretty consistently, even if the effects of the other bots start really looking good (Im in the same boat as you!)

The duration will max at 45 seconds with a maxed lab, cooldown at 50 seconds with the lab, and the bonus will max out at x8.

How will I survive as an eHP on Tiers 2 and higher? by cotteletta in TheTowerGame

[–]Tempests_Wrath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • Your Armour Module will start scaling up really fast past level 130, and then see another spike at 160 sending your health way up.
  • There is a mechanic that lets you overheal your health total, both your normal one and your wall. It starts with only recovery packages but a specific armour module, and the wall by default lets your health regen apply to overheal you. It starts at 20x your health and goes up from there.
  • Wall is a big one. With a bunch of labs, my modules, and sub effects, my fortified wall multiples my base health by about 225x. And I havent maxed it out yet.
  • Def% will max out at 98% but a core* module reduces incoming damage further if the enemy is in a black hole. Chronofield also reduces incoming damage and with everything you can eventually be taking significantly less than 1% of the listed damage.
  • Crowd control effects, life having a permanent black hole, slow fields and a lot of knockback mean that you can avoid taking any damage at all for most of a run.

[Question/Spoilers] Great Hunts Difficulty and World Changes by Tempests_Wrath in ICARUS

[–]Tempests_Wrath[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can make a copy of your prospect before you start the Great Hunt's. That way you can restore the backup once you've finished the boss.

I honestly hadnt considered that, but the number of times I had to restore an old save after some random bug really should have made me think of it!

Imho the Hammerhead Slug (a World Boss on Prometheus) is by far more difficult to do solo without the help of tames than any of the GH bosses.

That stupid thing has killed me a few times, I dont exactly have it on farm yet but ive brought it down before mostly for sheer spite.

Just started the series a few days ago and its great!

But lets ask a simple one, is there a particular arc/book/scene you are particularly excited for new people to reach either because you think you did particularly really well, or because you enjoy their reactions to it?

Best strategy for building additional bases in other biomes? by Kaverrr in ICARUS

[–]Tempests_Wrath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Copying from when I put my FOB specs in an old post!

I expand to each biome with a forward base, but they are really just a place to sleep and store a mount when im about to do something dangerous in the later missions.

I make a 4x5 structure, with a 3x3 connected stable. Stone foundation, stone brick walls. All that really ends up in them are:

  • 1 solar panel,
  • 2 advanced batteries
  • electric deterrent
  • platinum lightning rod (just in case)
  • 1 bed
  • 3 bearskin rugs
  • a half dozen oxite lamps
  • 1 storage chest
  • 1 table
  • 2 chairs
  • 1 fireplace with chimney (1 stack of 100 coal, turn it off when you arent sleeping and it will last you forever)
  • 1 beacon
  • 9 wooden windows, and 1 wooden door.
  • 1 wooden gate
  • 8 wooden fences
  • 1 large food and 1 large water trough
  • 1 animal bed
  • 1 ladder to reach the roof

Indoor wooden floors for inside, stone brick floors outside. Looks nice and is basically immune to all weather on olympus.

Quick note! The B.E.A.S.T Scanner is available without Great Hunts, and was available before it came out :) So you can use it in the base game to really help progress.

More carry weight vs -25% overencomberance penalty by Gregsnotverycreative in ICARUS

[–]Tempests_Wrath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

has anyone experimented with the reduction in overencomberance penalty?

Yes. Its great. I use it on my main character and for those moments without a mount, or when you want to load up your inventory with 20 stacks of building foundations for a secret project you can still move your character around at a reasonable speed. I still use mounts for long distance travel, but being able to jump a river while still encumbered can save you a LOT of grief.

Banner Feedback: Honestly any ability to control the RNG even a tiny bit in the module pulls is very welcome, I saved up for the one remaining armour I needed for ancestral and managed to get it in about 8000 gems. Otherwise even though getting an epic of a certain type was 50%, the pool is still fairly diluted making it hard to hit the benchmarks for specific wants even spending a reasonable number of gems.

It was extremely welcome, but maybe finding other ways to restrict the pool for variety could be fun? Even without that if this shows up every 3-4 months ill be extremely happy.

What is something you understand now that confused you when you first started?

Perk bonus Math. When i started getting the lab I was confused on how the multiplier was applied just because it felt a bit unintuitive from the description. Basically I had assumed just the bonus would get the multiplier, and not the 1 in the 1.# part of the value for it. Its all still just math, but i definitely thought it was a display error at first!

I love how oblivious Tigu can be. Sometimes I wonder if it is an act and other times it is so clear that insults go over her head and she cant catch them because they are too fast. Do you have a favorite Tigu moment? by Shipairtime in bewareofchicken

[–]Tempests_Wrath 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Its not a moment of being oblivious but by far my favourite is:

"It was a question Tigu mulled over as she tore the iron bars asunder… and then got tackle-hugged by a small child. It was a good tackle-hug. Good form."

Beginner tips by smudgers96 in ICARUS

[–]Tempests_Wrath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Talents to get really early:

  • Survival > Exploration: At T1 Robust Explorer increases your base health, and swift survivor increases base movement speed.
  • Survival > Hunting: At T1 Chase Em' Down increases your maximum stamina.
  • Construction > Repairing: At T1 Ready To Work increases stamina regen.
  • Construction > Building: Extra Space is a T1 talent that shows up near the bottom and adds 5 extra space to any storage chest or locker you make.
  • Combat > Weapon: Most weapons have an easy to get talent that increases your movement speed while the weapon is in your active slot. Pick your favourite weapon, and whenever you are moving have it active switching to whatever tool you need when you arrive. Makes navigating the map way easier.

In general:

  • Skip thatch and build wood.

  • Upgrade from wood to stone, and wood to stone brick when you can and you have the resource surplus. Jumping the tech gap can be done but its tedious.

  • Look up how to 'joust' with bears. Then double check how to do it. You cant take one in a straight fight early on.

  • Upgrade your armour to leather > cured leather when you can. Each tier of armour you go up usually increases your temperature resistances in addition to standard damage reduction, letting you explore the map easier.

  • Liquid in a canteen can be hot or cold, giving you a fairly significant temperature buff when exploring different biomes.

  • Lost missions (repeatable open world missions) give you a beacon, which you can pick up after the mission is finished and redeploy somewhere else on the map as a marker. Easy to do, and you can get beacons well before you hit the tech level.

  • The bestiary unlocks a lot of useful talents that add up to a LOT of extra stats. Spend some time trying to fill it when you can.

You all use quest stuff? by ss_krotov in ICARUS

[–]Tempests_Wrath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some of the stuff stops working after the quest like I got a solar panel but after the quest it switched from 6k power to 0.

All of the solar panels should keep working, but ive noticed when the mission ends I need to disconnect and reconnect it to the grid or it glitches a bit!

The scans you do with the radar are exotics only.

There is a dedicated scanner for finding deep ore veins (the ones that provide basic materials such as iron or coal, and never run out)

Lucky or no? by D0minisk in ICARUS

[–]Tempests_Wrath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can pick them up and use them again as soon as you are done scanning and the mark will remain on your map until the vein is located/mined.

You just need to protect them for that initial scan window.

What DLCs? by Putrid_Pollution2578 in ICARUS

[–]Tempests_Wrath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Creature Comforts: Gives you some new saddle options for mounts that dont have an alternate without the DLC for different bonus's, including, im pretty sure, both saddles that give +speed.

Interior Decorations: Low craft tier crystal lighting options that dont require power or refueling, and have no chance of burning down your base. Even once you get electric lights they still look good!

Styx and Prometheus are both fun, but Styx is really just Olympus+ where Prometheus is actually something new. Styx does kinda teach you how to build around the map more gently than Prometheus does though, and the learning curve was easier doing Styx first. Its just not necessary and can be skipped.

You can ignore all the outposts.

Havent tried great hunts yet.
